How long can I leave pool with not much water in it?

I think we need a new liner as the water level went down drastically over the winter. We cannot get a new one installed for 5-6 weeks. Is it okay to let the pool as is. It has no water in shallow end and water starts about 6 inches from where it slopes down into deep end. I thought you are...

Pool lost a LOT of water over winter

Our inground lost so much water over the winter that the shallow end is completely waterless. We typically drain it just under the return lines. So it lost probably 2 feet or so. Liner is 12 years old. Is it safe to say we probably need a new one? Trying to avoid filling up and then refill again...

Do I need to buy a new multiport valve top to replace spider gasket???

My filter is leaking out the backwash hose after I backwash and return to filter mode. Also, leaking down the side of the filter. I assume I'm correct that we need to replace the spider gasket. Pool store told me that because my old gasket is white that those models will always leak and I have...

    Spider valve gasket replacement

Our filter is leaking water out of the backwash pipe when it's in "filter" position. Pool store told me we need to replace the spider valve gasket. However, there is no gasket inside. I heard from someone that some Hayward filters you have to buy the entire valve and replace that and that the...

Pump hesitating when we turn it on

Our pump hesitates and hums for about 5 seconds before it kicks on. Is this something like the capacitor or do we need a new pump? Not sure how old it is. Any idea on what to do? Thanks!

Multiport valve handle extremely hard to turn

The handle is extremely hard to turn; I'm afraid it's going to break. The pool store told me to get any silicone lube to put on the spider gasket so I did. It didn't help at all. Then they told me to replace the spring and washer for the handle. Haven't done that yet. I saw on this site to use...

Return line eyeball stuck on ring...

Just opened our inground pool and took the winterizing plugs off the return lines. I need to adjust the eyeballs but they are stuck on the ring they fit into... I guess because we didn't take the eyeballs off the rings when we closed. Anyone know of a way we can loosen the eyeballs? If not, is...

How long do I wait after adding shock to get an accurate pH reading?

Just opened pool yesterday and it was green after a hot week last week. Added 4 gallons of shock this morning and just noticed on this site that I should have tested pH first. What should I do next? I know I need more shock to kill algae but want to make sure the pH is good. Should I just wait...

Air in pump and priming issue

Just opened pool last week and there has been air bubbles in the pump basket area and also when we turn it on, the water is down and it takes about 15-20 seconds for it to fill back up again. Replaced the o-ring already since it was bad. What else could it be?

What kind of shop vac to blow out lines?

How powerful of a shop vac do I need to get to blow out lines when closing? We used my dad's last year and it didn't get the bottom drain all the way out. Never saw air bubbles coming out. My husband said it's fine because we blew them a long time but I worried all winter about it. It was fine...

    Help getting water balanced

Just opened my pool and the water is crystal clear. Vacuumed a few leaves, worms out and added 4 gallons of liquid shock. Haven't added anything else. My numbers (using Taylor K-2005 test kit): Chlorine - 10-20 pH - registering greater than the highest mark (8) Alkalinity - 170 Calcium - 270...

    Help with blowing out lines

We had 2 different companies comes the last 2 years and close our pool. We took notes and wanted to start doing it ourselves. First question is: should we drain the water down a little? I thought it would be safe to drain below the skimmer, which we did, but both pool guys did not drain at all...

help with getting water cleared up

One week ago my alkalinity was 200 so we put in muriatic acid. Well, we added it gradually over 2 days but didn't know to check the pH. So of course, we got extremely low pH and then lots of algae. We have shocked it over 3 nights and finally it looks like the algae is gone but the water is...

Getting started with BBB method questions

My numbers are: 1 2 FC 2 4 TC 1 2 CC 7.4 Ph 120 alkalinity 200 calcium hardness 120 CYA First, I don't understand the 2 numbers on the Chlorine part of the tube. Does 1 2 mean it's between 1 and 2? Second, I now know my CYA is so high because of the trichlor tabs I've been using. I am going...
