Just how smart are robots, anyway?

I'm trying to believe that my Blue Diamond...which works amazingly well BTW...has some sophisticated smarts as all the robotic manufacturers want you to think...but I can't see how it's pattern is any "smarter" than a 280. I've only had it a few days but it still seems completely random. Most of...

HELP! Jets so low they are really air/water enemas...

So again I'm back to my plumber nightmare...this is the last issue (I hope). Our spa jets were installed about 3" above the spa seats. At best they hit you just above the base of the spine (below lumbar though) and at worst...well...you understand. Add to this that the plumber installed 8 jets...

Looking for a PA builder towards western PA

I have some questions about how you run your business, licensing, insurance, etc. I'm thinking of getting into the business in the eastern part of the state. :hammer:

    Aquabot Turbo T Jet

Anyone have experience with this? It seems simpler than the tracked robotics and maybe even better for larger freeform gunite pools... http://aquaproducts.com/turbotjet.htm I'm thinking this and a PoolBlaster would be a nice, reliable large pool cleaning solution for less than $1000. I'm not...

    Spa blower check valve

My 1.5 hp spa blower seems to be hampered by my Lowes purchased spring check valve. Leaving the valve in place produces fair bubbling and a nice moaning sound from the valve. Locking the valve open with a small screwdriver produces better results. I have to assume the complete removal would be...

    New pool needs new cleaner

My new pool is going to need a cleaner, and this has been one heck of a difficult decision to make. Help! My modestly freeform IG pool is about 1,000 sq. ft, 31,000 gallons with a spa. 9' deep end, 3' shallow with a sun shelf and about 30' of bench and steps. Walls are less than 90 degrees in...

Where do you get large quantities of BS?

Our 30,000g new plaster IG is at 50ppm for TA...meaning we need 22lbs of baking soda to get it to 80. Where do you get large quantities of BS? (Don't answer "Washington")

So why no swimming during plaster break-in period?

I read everywhere that no swimming should be allowed during break-in...but no reason why given. Can anyone clarify?

How much muriatic acid can be added daily?

Pool store said never more than an ounce at a time. Sounds kinda preposterous. The pH on our new spa plaster is at 8 and it seems to eat the acid right up. PoolCalc states 4 oz needs to be added...is this a safe amout to add at one time? 1300 gallon Diamond Brite spa, plastered 9 days ago.

    deanrinehart's Bethlehem, PA IG Build

As we're nearing the end of this project, I thought I'd post a chronology of my build so we can all either delight together in its successful completion...or you can all soothe my battered soul when the shell collapses into a gaping hole leading straight to you know where. It might take me a...

    Plastering and weather

So to add to the complexities and annoyances of the last days of my build, my plasterer is ticked off at me. They came out Tuesday not expecting rain, but it started just after they mixed the first batch of Diamond Brite. So they covered the spa and finished that while it rained, then...

Why plumbing should always be pressurized during a build

When it rains, it pours. See this post for my other fun problem. The plumber I used is a nice guy, but he seems to fly by the seat of his pants a bit too much...and his technique isn't all that modern or refined. Of course I only figure this out after I "know better"... Piping is run kinda...

Diamond Brite plastering scrapped midway due to weather

Not sure why the plasterers were surprised by rain, but they were. It started up around 8:30 am, just as they had mixed a batch of plaster. They could cover the spa, so they decided to do that and see if the rain would pass so they could do the pool. It didn't. They finished the spa, filled it...

    Liquidator and variable speed pumps

I've read that the LQ can be finicky with variable speed pumps. Besides removing check valves, are there any other hints to make the two work properly together?

Can't find sch 40 sweep elbows...

...and I want to do the plumbing tomorrow. My pad calls for 15 bends, 9 on pressure, 6 on suction. I have all of the 90 degree bends I'd need, but am wondering if it's worth it to find sweeps instead. None of the plumbing supply shops around here carry long els or sweeps in a pressure fitting...

    Jandy 3 way plumbing options

Jandy 3 way valves are marked with the center common port as 'inlet'...I assume because in normal operation you can't block this port (without unscrewing the handle and bypassing the stops). Is it ok to plumb these valves using one of the other ports as a common collector (or outlet)? Hope this...

    Hello from Bethlehem, PA

So happy to have found this site! I'm a former pool owner who moved his family away from their perfect pool in 2005 and have not heard the end of it. My wife made moving conditional on a new pool within 5 years, and I'm finally making good on my promise. After a few modestly frustrating...
