SLAMMING my Spa but cannot get rid of CC

I have SLAMMED the heck out of my spa but cannot close the gap between free and total chlorine and cannot get rid of chloramine odor. I’m ready to install a UV system. Worried that it is some chlorine resistant bacteria and will not go in spa until I can clear it.

Muriatic Acid not impacting pH as much as Pool Math says it should

I am having an issue with my pool. For the past month, I have been putting in the recommended amount of muriatic acid and it is having only 40% of the projected effect. Similar issue with my SWCG - not having as much impact as it did last year. Could it be a TDS problem?

Running a 55K Gal SWCG at 75% just to maintain a 4.0 CL level in a 17K gal pool

last year I barely needed to run my SWCG at 25% for 2 hours per day and this year running it at 75% for 6 hours. So running it 9x as much to maintain the same level of chlorine. The only difference is that last year I had a solid gray solar cover and now have a clear one to produce more heat...

SLAMming my Spa - still getting bubbles

I have been slamming my spa with calcium hypochlorite. Took a day and a half but water is consistently clear now and holding 24 ppm chlorine. However, I noticed when jets run I still get some foaming and the bubbles carry grime. Do I need to keep SLAMming until they go away too?

    Filter pressure higher after cleaning

Hi all - Pentair 420 cartridge filter. Cleaned the filter and replaced the rubber O-ring because original was stretched out and appeared to be leaking air. New O-ring was thinner which allowed the clamp to be tightened down much further. I put lots of lube on the O-ring. Now, perhaps...

Installed SWG - question about Sacrificial Anode

If I install a sacrificial anode (I know some do not believe that they work), I am aware that it has to be bonded. Does it have to be bonded to the SAME line as the equipment it is protecting or can it be grounded separately? I am thinking of having it in the skimmer basket but grounded to the...

    Pentair IC40 vs Hayward W3AQR15

Is there a clear winner? Hayward seems to have more chlorination options (percentage wise), but I have tended to go with Pentair as have heard of problems getting in touch with Hayward and getting them to honor the warranty. Pentair replacement cell seems more expensive but you get all new...

    SLAMming a Fiberglass Spa?

Can you safely SLAM a fiberglass spa? Seems like a very high chlorine level for fiberglass.

Installing SWG - Looking for advice

Hi - After reading much on TFP and having been dumping $$$ in chlorine all summer, I have decided to go with an SWG. I was thinking of going with the Hayward W3AQR15. I have a 16,000ish gallon pool and this is a 40K gallon Cell, but it is actually cheaper on Amazon right now that the 25K cell...

    Stenner Pump Installation

Hi. I am pretty handy and the Stenner pump and 15 gallon tank look like the solution I have been wanting for years to keep my pool chlorinated AND alleviate the need for me to manually add chlorine daily during the summer. That being said - everything looks pretty straightforward except how I...

Having to chlorinate everyday - is that normal?

Hi - I have to add chlorine everyday just to maintain at least 2.0 FC - which seems too frequent. I use mostly liquid chlorine but sometimes use powder without CYA. Background: CYA is high (90) but I am managing that down, pH is 7.7, TA: 100, phosphates are low (<100). Temp is high 80s and I...

High CYA - Pool math is telling me to put the chlorine to 10. is that safe?

I have high CYA (~95). The Pool Math app says to get my chlorine to between 7 - 12. Is that a safe level for swimmers? Also - I like the way pool math takes my chemistry and tells me what to do, but is there an ideal chemistry (FC, CC, TA, pH)?
