    Time for a new liner

Well here's the story. Came home and did my normal daily pool check and was immediately frightened that my pool lost about 10+ inches of water. So I quickly turn off the pump and investigate around the pool and find a 5 inch tear line about 7 inches below the return jet close to the pool light...

    Pressure Gauge

I replaced my pressure gauge this year with a Glycerin one from TF. For some reason my gauge goes down instead of up as it gets dirty. It happened with my previous gauge as well. Has anyone else experienced this? I thought maybe there's build up somewhere, but I just put in fresh cartridges...

    Testing After Pump Shut Off

I typically run my pump from 8am to 6pm and I usually get home around 5:50-5:55pm so I am able to get a test in, but there are days I get in around 6:00pm or 6:05pm. Can I still test 1 to 30 minutes past pump shut-off and trust the FC, PH results? Or should I turn pump back on and wait 15 minutes?

    PH

I added some Trichlor last week to make up for the CYA loss the last couple of months to get it back to 40ppm. My PH was 7.3 before the addition, my alk was 70. According to Pool Math I should expect PH to drop to about 6.8. I will confirm in testing, but should I add Borax to raise it up to...

    Effects of adding Ascorbic Acid?

@Leebo I know that Ascorbic Acid affects PH/Alkalinity, but I'm never sure how much it lowers PH/Alk, Can this be added to the PoolMath app?

    Raising to slam

I'm raising to slam levels since I will be gone for 3 days. I have a opaque solar cover, but my question is can I turn off the pump after an hour of mixing, I usually run it for 15 minutes for daily additions but not sure about slam levels ? The pool is on a timer and will go back on in the...

Hayward H series natural gas pool heater

My heater was working fine for about 2 weeks, and then I noticed strange sounds coming from it. 3 days ago I saw "bd" code. And now when the heater receives power it makes a loud buzzing sound, so I cut power from the breaker for the heater. My guess is that I need to replace the boards but...

Any downside or concerns with using both a solar Cover and a Liquid Solar blanket at the same time?

    PH

Just curious what issues would I run into if I kept PH between 7.0-7.2 all the time? I have an IG Vinyl Pool with a heater. My reason for wanting to keep the PH at those levels is due to my yearly issue with iron. I'm on city water, I perform the AA treatment and multiple water exchanges but...

    Metal sequestrant/Chlorine

Does metal sequestrant eat up some of the chlorine? I've been losing 5-6 ppm of Chlorine daily and I usually only lose 3-4. I did an overnight test and I lost .5 ppm. I did a drop test and it remained clear.

    PH with Liquid chlorine

This will probably need to go in the agree to disagree section, but my question is if Liquid chlorine has a PH between 11-13 and you are keeping your pool Chlorinated between 4ppm and 8ppm depending on your CYA wouldn't the PH be slightly affected by Chlorine since you are always keeping your...

    AA Treatment/ Water Exchange

So I tried an AA treatment but the stains proceeded to return after a couple of weeks. I'm going to do another treatment but this time I'm going to do multiple water exchanges to get the metals out. My question is, once I dump a portion of water and refill, how long should I wait for the...

    After AA treatment

I did an AA treatment on Sunday and have balanced my water. My question is when do I start adding additional sequestrant to the water. Do I start adding weekly on Sunday May 22nd or should I wait an additional week, before starting to add more?

    AA Treatment, PH, Gas Heater

I'm starting a AA treatment tomorrow to get rid of some metal stains and putting Jack's magic the Pink Stuff. I just brought up my Calcium Hardness level to 200 because I have heater. My PH is 7.2 and Alk is 70 currently. Once I put the AA and the sequestrant the PH will fall down, not sure...

    Estimated Cost

Hi, I've been looking into changing over to a SWG next year or even this year prior to closing the pool. Does a SWG require having to change your pump? I was wondering if $1,200-$1,600 is a good estimate for the unit and to install it, including the electrical work?

TF100 refills vs TF100 Pro refills

What's the difference between the two? I originally purchased a TF100 kit, and was going to get the refill but didn't know if I should just get the TF100 pro refill.

    Heating Modes

I have a Hayward Universal heater, currently hooked up to natural gas. I only have a pool, so my question is could I use spa mode to heat the pool to 104? I wanted to heat up the pool one day to hot tub levels in October a couple of weeks before closing the pool.

    calcium hypochlorite

I still have 6 bags of calcium hypochlorite that I would like to use within the next 3 months, and I was wondering what are the effects on PH? My Calcium level is only 150, so I'm not worried about that.

    Thanks TFP!

It looks like we are in for a long haul TFP. You may not see me around as much between November and March, but from April to October, all bets are off . But seriously, I'm thankful I found this website with such knowledgeable and helpful people. You have saved me lots of money and time, and...

    Alkalinity

Does dry stabilizer or Trichlor lower Alkalinity? I got 60ppm Alkalinity 2 weeks in a row and this week I got 50ppm. I increased Stabilizer by using some Trichlor and adding dry stabilizer. I tested twice just to make sure I didn't make a mistake.

    Testing After Pool Opening

Sorry if this question has been asked, I was just wondering how long after opening the pool do I wait to run all the testing. 1 hour, 2 hours, 8 hours? Thanks in advance!

    Thank you

Hello everyone I'm introducing myself. I found this website in late August of 2019, after a nightmarish first year. I have learned a lot including testing on my own with TF-100. My CYA level was over 100 last year and the pool store assured me that it was ok up to 150. I was using those darn...
