    Poolvergnuegen hose replacements

Our 8 year old Pool Cleaner's hoses have all unravelled this past year. I have just installed the last replacement hose which came with the cleaner originally. What would be the best replacement hoses to get? The OEM's look to run $20 or more per section. Amazon has some after markets for $50...

    Salt level reading not changing

I installed our Aquarite 940 last April. It ran great all summer keeping the salt level between 3200 and 3400. (Pool store reading was closer to 2800 at the time.) I turned it off in December when the water temp went below 50 degrees and switched to liquid chlorine. At the end of February, I...

    Diluting acid for Stenner

I will be switching my chlorine Stenner setup to muriatic acid (installing SWG). I understand diluting the acid is recommended. I'm planning on using a 4:1 dilution. When adding water and acid to the storage container while there is still some diluted acid in it, is it better to: 1-add water...

    New install advice

I'm planning on putting in an AquaRite SWG, but don't currently have 15" of straight pipe for the AQR-15 cell. I'm thinking of re-routing from the filter back, up and over the pipe going to the filter to place the cell and flowmeter, then down, back and to the left to return to the pool. Anyone...

Effect of light on chlorine degradation

Finally got my Stenner pump. It's hooked up to a 15 gallon drum I got free from a carwash. The drum is tranlucent and I have it under our deck, so it gets shade most of the day, but might get some filtered morning sun. I've been using liquid chlorine, and I understand that higher...

    Metchlor chlorinator?

I have been reading about the Liquidator, and it seems like it might not be a good fit for us. Our variable speed pump is below pool level and the pH tends to run naturally high. The Metchlor chlorinator seems like it might be a good option, but I can't find much info on it. Is anyone using...

Leaking around bottom of filter housing

Hi All- I noticed about a week ago that the bottom of one of the filter housings is wet and there is water leaking around it. I do not actually see water dripping from the seam, but I'm guessing it must be leaking there for it to be uniformly wet at and below the seam all the way around. I...

Chlorine floater- all the way open?

Hi All. Going on vacation for a week and have read many threads here. CYA is at 35, so I'm planning on bringing it up to shock level with LC and putting a floater in. (We don't have a cover.) I have two questions. How many 3" pucks do you think I should put in? And should the floater be...

    Broken deck and loose rock

A piece of our deck broke off. What would be the best way to replace/repair it? Also, one of the rocks by the side of our pool is loose. What would be the best way to reset it? Thanks!

best time to run filter to heat pool

We get morning sun, until around 3 pm, but the hottest part of the day here in is around 4-5 pm. If I want to heat the pool (no pool heater), would it be better to run the filter for 8 hours from 8-4 to take advantage of the sunshine, or from 12-8 to take advantage of the warm air temps? Thanks!

    R-0600 equivalent?

I wanted to support our new local pool supply store, so I went in to buy a new bottle of R-0600 for my Taylor Test kit. They did not have it, so they sold me a bottle of Poolmaster 1 Indicator Solution (for chlorine/bromine test). Looking at the bottle, it says it contains 0.14% OTO and 5.14%...

filters leaking between dome and tank body

A few weeks ago, our filters started leaking water when the pump would prime. Now they leak whenever the pump is at high speed as well. I'm thinking they need new o-rings. Could it be something else? Is there some way to clean and relube the o-rings to get them to seal better? Where's the...

    Any maximum recommended CH level?

I've lowered my TA to 40 to try to stabilize pH (which still climbs, but more slowly). Here are my current numbers: FC- 5 pH- 7.8 TA- 40 CH- 420 CYA- 35 Salt- 2000 Borate- 50 Temp- 62 According to the Pool Calculator, CSI is -.54; if I lower pH to 7.5, CSI rises to -.71, which could affect...

How to direct returns without threads

Hi All I've got 3 returns on our inground pool which I believe are 1" diameter. They all point slightly sideways and pretty much horizontal. I'd like to point at least one of them slightly down to better circulate the deep end water. I know that it doesn't circulate that well down there...

TA down to 50 and pH still climbing- what to do about CSI?

When TA was 60, pH would go from 7.3 to 8.0 in 1 week. At TA of 50, it goes from 7.3 to 8.0 in two weeks. I'm planning on bringing TA down to 40 to try to stabilize pH even more. But now I'm concerned about CSI. How high can/should I raise CH to keep CSI above -0.6? Is there another way to...

My pH has been drifting up as well

Jason- My pH has been drifting up as well. Here are my numbers: FC 3-5 pH 7.8 TA 80 (it was at 70- I mistakenly raised it with Baking soda thinking since TA buffers pH, more would be better) CH 270 CYA 35 Borates 50 Salt 2090 (no SWG) temp 82 degrees Even though Pool School recommends TA from...

Going on vacation- no pool cover

Any suggestions on preparing our pool for a 10-day vacation if we don't have a cover? I've read many suggestions here in the forum and they all require either someone to come over and add chlorine during the vacation or lots of chlorine and a cover. We're currently losing about 2.5 ppm...

    Adding salt and/or borates

Now that our pool is sparkling clean and the chemicals are under control, I'm thinking of adding salt and/or borates to get that silky feeling (i.e. eliminate that dried skin feeling when we get out). I've read many threads and it seems that the consensus is that there is no consensus- that...

    Calcium chloride on Ebay?

Hey all- My current numbers: FC- 5 pH- 7.6 TA- 80 CH- 220 CYA- 50 It looks like I need to raise my CH a bit. I'm looking for a good source of calcium chloride. Here are three options: 1- Leslie's sells Hardness Plus ($32 for 15 lbs). 2- Ace may or may not have Safe Step Extreme 7200 ($17 for...

Need help setting up new Intelliflo VS

We just moved into a house which had been vacant for several months, so no pool maintenance. I am just now finishing turning our frog pond back into a swimming pool. The chlorine is at shock levels, pending a positive overnight test. PG just installed an Intelliflo VS pump along with a...

Swamp conversion- how long to pass overnight Cl test?

Hello again everyone. I'm converting my swamp into a swimming pool! Started with a green pool (see photos). Got my test kit and tested pH (8.2) and CYA (110- possibly inaccurate due to swamp conditions). Pool store measured TA (130), CH (400) and FC (0 of course). To lower CYA, I drained...

SWG lower FC levels bad for health?

Hello everybody. I am brand new to this pool thing. I have moved into a house with a pool, which is now so green that we can't tell if there is a sweeper on the bottom or not. A pool maintenance person whom I know and trust recommends draining the pool rather than shocking and cleaning. He's...
