    Resin cleanup???

We’ve got a mess. We had some resin/hardener left over from a project spill over the basement floor. To be more precise, it didn’t actually spill but started to leech through the plastic jug it was in. I don’t care much about the stain but its pretty sticky still. So far Ive tried mineral...

    Antifreeze mess

Just helped a friend who was in a jam close and winterize their fiberglass hot tub. All went well enough until the end when I failed to reconnect a union before pouring in a bunch of antifreeze. I shop-vacced up the mess best I could and it didn’t get on equipment, just went into the grooves...

    Skimmer cracking

My skimmer (in-ground) is cracking up! This was put in around 6 years ago as replacement for the original skimmer (pool is an 80’s build). I was going to epoxy the cracks this morning (jb waterweld) and realized how bad the situation was as I was cleaning it. I don’t think its really causing...

    Robot vs manual vacuum

Ive never had any equipment to clean the pool floor besides a robot, which works great. But pieces of pea gravel and bits of broken grout (that’s another story) that are a bit too big for the robot to capture are starting to accumulate. Would a manual vacuum likely be strong enough to suck...

Any aquarium nuts on this site?

title says it all! My wife has been trying to establish an aquatic ecosystem (freshwater) with balanced chemistry between plants and fish and is having trouble. I can tell that some of the water chemistry is related to what is discussed on this site (ph balancing in particular, though...

    Manufactures chlorine non-recommendations

A friend just got a new hot tub and was looking through the manual. It specifically says not to use trichlor or liquid chlorine. Any idea why that might be? Not sure of make and model but i can find out

    Coping movement

My coping seems to be moving all over the place. Its clearly separating a bit from the deck and the seal on the mastic hasn’t held. I had tiles fall off underneath this section. Theres clearly been movement between the tile and the coping also. I would have thought these both would have...

    Sizing Question

Moved From Here i am in PA with a bit smaller pool (24k). My hayward swg is rated 40k and it keeps up with peak summer heat running no more than 45%. Would i have been ok with the 25k rated model? Maybe but it would be at peak capacity in the summer without any room for error.

    Tile repair materials

Ive got a couple of waterline tiles which have fallen off and need to be put back. I know that ez patch materials are often recommended. But ive got bags of misc thinset and grouts sitting in the basement just waiting to be used. Will these generally work with waterline tile? Anything...

Swg low flow….rpms needed keep getting higher

I installed my swg (hayward) and vsp (pentair whisperflow) last season. 1300 rpms kept the flow switch happy until I closed it up (3 months of runtime) This season, when I opened in April, 1300 was getting low flow so I bumped it up to 1500. Today, low flow again. I bumped it to 2000 for the...

    I hate flex hose

My purchase of flex-hose is becoming an annual event. I tried repairing it last year. Wasn’t worth the trouble. My wife is the gardener and can’t handle the weight of a standard rubber hose, especially not the 100 foot long one we need. Is there anything more durable and lightweight? I got...

    Gfi pump breaker 240

I took a look at my breaker box and realized my pump is not gfci protected. Can someone help me navigate the myriad of breakers out there, considering breaker type, false tripping, and protection tolerances. Circuit is 240V, 15A, not 20A so that renders a lot of the posts I see less than...

    Light conduit size

Is there a standard size for pvc conduit to a light niche, and what is it? Im thinking about replacing my light which is shorted out and has been disconnected for a couple years. I am going to have to break off this putty around the cord. I want to be prepared with the right size rubber...

    CSI Balancing over the wintertime

The last couple of springtimes, Ive opened to a pool that has 1) a lot more scale buildup than what i closed with and 2) a lot of crystalline precipitate in the bottom of the pool. It fizzes with acid so assume its calcium (calcium carbonate??) 3) ph high well over 8.0. This winter, Im hoping...

    Cell threads too tight??

I just had the worst time gettjng my swg (hayward) cell off my plumbing. I got it off eventually with a channel locks and a belt but hoping to have an easier time of it next winter. I know the manual says to hand tighten. I couldn’t get it leak free by hand when I put it on so gave it maybe a...

    MA dilution for cleaning scale

Time to clean some scale buildup on the coping and above the waterline. I know ive read to use diluted MA but the ratio of dilution is never specified. Anybody know what works best? Is it worth it to try white vinegar first just because itll be less nasty to handle? Is it iust not strong...

    Concrete sealant on mastic problems….

We had the stamped concrete pool deck resealed a couple months ago. Where the sealant went over the mastic of the pool expansion joint the sealant did not cure properly and left a tacky gummy mess. We finally got the decking guy back to take a look at it and he says he’s never seen this happen...

    Vsp in for the winter?

In researching vsp’s, I saw in the Hayward Tristar manual they recommend a full disconnect for winterizing and the pump to be brought inside. Does anybody actually do that? I’m planning on going with the Pentair Whisperflo VST because itll be drop-in to replace my Whisperflo single speed...

    VSP Selection

I know everyone loves the Intelliflow. Has anyone tried the Whisperflo VSP? Its not as large (2.6 Thp) as Intelliflo but should be plenty of power for my pool. The one place I called today says inventory is still an issue. Intelliflow isn’t even available. The whisperflo vsp sounds like it...

    SWG ratings

Hi all - I installed an SWG (Circupool Universal 55) this year and am finding I have to run it a bit longer than I was expecting. Through May and June I usually go through no more than 2ppm FC daily. This year with the SWG if I am doing the math correctly, I’ve been going through 3-4ppm...

    Slamming take two!!!

So I pulled the tarp off a few days ago to say hello to the pool after a long winter. Like usual after the winter it was filthy and a bit green. A couple gallons of 10-12% usually clears it up and then I go through maybe 1 ppm per day until summer warms the water up. This year, those couple...

Its not yet solidified- the whole bucket is a giant slushy. Any ideas on how to use, salvage, or safely dispose?

    Split bolt connector size

Can anyone point out the right size split bolt connector to extend bonding wire? I can’t find any online source which is understandable to a non electrician. Just splicing two pieces of bare copper 8 gauge. Should be simple enough. A link to the right HD or lowes item would be awesome😁
