As anyone ever done or seen thin cut rock that is laid/stuck on the shell of the pool under water to give a more natural look?

Has anyone ever notched or cut the top of the bond beam to add boulders and/or rock to your pool? I was planning on using faux rock but have switched to real rock so I have no rock shelf. I want rock to start under water and not just sit on top of beam. Any suggestions?
