Worth treating water if pump is out of commission?

Just opened our pool a couple weeks ago and was vacuuming with intention of balancing when the breaker for the pump started tripping. Electrician replaced breaker, pool guy said pump is ok (2 years old) so another electrician will come to troubleshoot today. I have a grad party for my senior...

Not plugging returns and using Rigid 16gal/6hp shop vac to blow out lines

I thought I saw a thread about the deep return lines but unsuccessful in my search. I am trying to close the pool myself, and, like most newbies, am worried about blowing out the lines properly. I have read that the Rigid 14gal/6hp shop vac will do the job. I'd love to not have to spend $300...

Is it possible to open a pool and not have to do anything to it?

I had this buried in another thread as a comment, but decided it should be a new post. I'm so happy with BBB method and so thankful I found this site last year when we moved into our new home (complete with the pool I never wanted). This is my second year, and opening was much smoother - I'm...

    Iron stains

Hi there: I've read a lot about how to remove iron stains (confirmed with a vitamin C tablet test). With my CYA around 30, I keep FC at 3-4 and pH around 7.8. It seems to me I'm seeing more orange spots on the bottom of the pool. Is the high pH making this worse? The pool store said I had .1...

There are no shortcuts; believe in the process and trust the experts - thank you TFP

I updated on of my original thread, but felt I needed to share. Bought a home with green pool (2-3 years unused). Spent too much money on pool chemicals and a cleaner came twice, but pool was still gross. We had a June 4 deadline for our daughter's big graduation open house and wanted to use...

SLAM done (I'm pretty sure) but sediment at the bottom of the pool

I've been SLAMing for almost two weeks - brushing, filter has been running 24x7 for 2 weeks, and for the past couple nights, there has been no FC loss overnight, and CC is between 0 and .5 consistently. There's loss during the day as it's been sunny, and I've brought it up to SLAM levels again...

Question on brushing during SLAM and how to know when we are done

So I'm in the middle of SLAM'ing...FC target 13, CC usually between 0 and .5, and each morning, it is around 10.5-11 (so not losing a lot overnight). Is it still eating algae? Pool is cloudy, though water looks clear when I scoop it up. We're brushing the walls (pool is 9-10ft on deep end)...

    Need guidance with SLAM

I decided to post a new thread instead of just adding to my "intro" newbie thread. So after getting by TF100 kit and stir stick, found out CYA=30 and FC was around 6, with cloudy greenish/blue water (suspicions of algae confimed by feedback from forum in response to my pictures). I started...

    Question re stir stick

I received my TF100 and my stir stick yesterday. I notice that 10mL in the containers in the test kit doesn't equal 10mL in the stir stick container. I poured 10mL from the chlorine only container into the stir stick container and it showed 11.5mL in the latter (without the capsule added)....has...

New pool owner - I have lots to learn - cloudy pool water

We just purchased a mid-century home, with a ~28k gallon pool (is what I'm told). It has had a saftety cover on it for a couple years, and we are opening it for the first time. Hired someone to come clean it, but the pump was broken so we had that replaced. Pump is working, sand filter looks...
