Pre SLAM Help - TFT Results - Pool Math Ignorant

In forums it's best to keep the issue you're dealing with in one thread instead of creating a new one. It helps to have the back story. Putting a cover on the pool also helps with chlorine loss due to sun.

Pool maintenance while out of town

I think standard pucks have CYA, you would have to read the package. Do you know anyone who can add chlorine once a day?

Pre SLAM Help - TFT Results - Pool Math Ignorant

How does the pool look? If you maintain the minimum FC (plus it holds over night) and CC's are .5 or under then you are good. Your FC is low though. If the pool looks bad then continue below. I would assume the CYA on the high side which means you need a shock FC of 12 for 30ppm or 16 for...

    Algae sticks around

Draining is the quickest fix for a small pool. You really need a good test kit and ignore the pool store, the test kits listed here are a good deal. Pool school is a must read, multiple times. Take notes on chlorine, PH and CYA levels. One way to get the rest of the water out is to siphon it...

Intex saltwater water system salt ppm woes and general Rust prevention questions?

Re: Intex saltwater water system + ultra frame 18 by 52 bad for rust? Prevention? It is true, the salt content in the water will make things rust faster, it's not the SWG itself that does it. That said, clean and paint any bare (or poorly painted) metal with a rust inhibitor. Keep an eye on...

    New Pump or not

It can be hard to find parts for off-brand pumps. It seems those companies change the setup often enough that it makes you have to buy a new one. This is a big reason to buy a name brand pump like Hayward. I had an off-brand one that I couldn't find parts for so ended up buying a used Hayward...

Hard sided AGP in Garage ... looking for expert advise

A couple thoughts come to mind.... -my pool has straps that go underneath from side to side for strength, I don't think round pools have this. How do you cover these straps in your setup? -a pool could be shortened but that would take cutting of the long straight uppers and of course the sheet...

New Pool - Need Help with adjusting water Chemistry

Your CYA is quite high which means the amount of chlorine needed will be high. I would stick to basic bleach, the bags of shock often add more CYA. Odd it's so high on a new pool. The pros will add more shortly.

Additional equipment for an above ground Intex pool

Really not much to it, a decent pump and filter that can be bought used off craigslist for small money. For a smallish pool, one with low speed may be best. Having the pump on a timer is helpful, some pumps have them on the motor. Steps are nice. You could add a cheap Intex SWG too. Would...

If you want to make things super easy, you can add one of these to your pool. Cheap way to make chlorine but you do need to add salt to your pool. Amazon.com : Intex 120V Krystal Clear Saltwater System CG-28669 with E.C.O. (Electrocatalytic Oxidation) for Above Ground Pools : Patio, Lawn Garden

Adding Borax makes DE filter clogged.

Certainly don't pour it into the skimmer. I think I poured some into a nylon sock I borrowed from my wife then hung the sock in front of the return. The same way I add stabilizer. :-)

As mentioned, study Poolschool (top right) and get a test kit because strips are inaccurate. Only trust your own tests. When I started I printed most things and highlighted certain areas. After a bit you'll find it is simple. The kits below last quite awhile except for one or 2 items that...

About to start a conversion in VT

Yes, that is it. Here's a descriptive link about it. If it still fails the overnight test then you are not done the shocking process even though it looks nice. Losing some during the day is common because of the sun, this is one big reason I like having an SWG to maintain the proper levels...

    Solar Cover

Interesting question, I wonder if your cover wasn't very good. I've run mine up to 15ppm without issue on 3 different covers. The covers do not usually last more than 3 years and if left out all winter they fail quickly. I've tried multiple price point covers, the thinner cheap ones seem to...

    Conversion

If your DE filter is like mine, which I think it is, then you have the pump input down low on one side, the filter outlet coming out near the top of the filter plus a drain on the opposite side of the pump. There is also a little thumb screw near the top outlet. When I did mine, I had to often...

    Scared

Wow, 10x 3 qt is 30qts or 7.5 gallons. It will be high for a bit. What is the bleach concentration? There should be a percentage listed somewhere on the bottle. Two gallons or so probably would have been enough to start. Keep monitoring and add as needed. Try to keep it off yourself. This...

    Best Affordable Solar Cover

Just adding some more info to this old-ish thread on pool covers. My 16 mil pool cover seems to be taking in water within the bubbles already. The cover is heavy in the first place and now with extra water it is so heavy that the aluminum tube for my pool reel broke in the middle. Cheap...

Intex SWG appears to be calling it quits.

Yep, can't fault her for trying. Just glad she didn't hurt herself, lol. We'll see what happens with the SWG. I see Wally world has them for like 140 right now. May just get another one. Time is money. As for me, I did board level repair out of college for a dozen years. The money was blah...

Intex SWG appears to be calling it quits.

I saw that video. Kinda comical. I have an electonics degree so am not afraid to dig in. It'll take some time to narrow down the issue. It happens when the unit is just idle so at that point I don't think the plates under under power unless it's cleaning them which could be. I measured the...

Intex SWG appears to be calling it quits.

I have the older 2 button SWG and it's been working perfectly for a few seasons. Now the little guy will run for a bit then trip the breaker. It will trip after awhile even if it's not making chlorine. This type of thing always seems to happen when I'm going away for a few days. Just a bit...

    Intex SWG and Timer Question

Save money maybe, mine has no NVRAM but still worth the short money. So you gain the better memory but the older ones pump out more chlorine. 3 to 4 hours a day is plenty for my 18'x33' pool. Maybe I could bodge the new and old type together to make a better one....

    What's your current pool temp?

Between 82 and 86 since the constant rains finally stopped. Had enough warm weather and sun that I have left the solar cover off but I may start putting it back on at night seeing it looks to be in the 60's the next few nights. Or maybe cover it during the day and leave off after the evening...
