    New build in central Texas

I had the form guy square up my scupper bowl bases while he was there. One had either been bumped or was never square. The rebar guy claims to be heading out there tomorrow to finish. I think it will take me a couple weeks to prepare for gunnite after that.

I plumbed my low voltage to go under my outdoor kitchen. I am having second thoughts on that. But we will see.

    New build in central Texas

I decided to have the forms enlarged to provide an 18" wall. That will waste some gunnite, but I will ha e a better wall to sit on and I have plenty of clearance to the plumbing and rebar. The rebar guy promised to work Saturday and finish today. No show both days. I will have him move...

    New build in central Texas

Is that to the top of the bond beam or coping? I assume bond beam due to the 3" water level. Just verifying. Also, I am 6'1" and my wife is 5'1"..... if that has any bearing on recommendations.

    New build in central Texas

So, I bought a spa loop that was pre fabricated (assembly required) that claimed to fit a 8' spa with a 12" beam. I had the form guy make the forms to a 10' diameter. I centered my single mega drain in the middle so I would have a bulls eye. The form is about 200 degrees of a circle...

I have been there before. My first pool I did a lot of the work myself and it took forever before I finished. Almost 2 years after gunnite before I was ready for plaster. But that was budget driven too. I hate to rub salt in your wounds..... but you also should wait after you add water...

How deep are the two heights? 18 and 22?

Any suggestions on height for the two different bench levels? We are setting them in rebar today.

FYI, new framer is doing great!

    New build in central Texas

Some progress. I hope to have steel done this week. It looks like the pool dig missed the depth all over the place. My spa right ow will be about 42" deep in the middle. Thinking of keeping it that way. Should I make the benches deeper or leave them and dangle feet? Also...

    New build in central Texas

Well, made a little progress today. I packed my drains in sand and set location, angle, and height. Then filled the pipes with water so they stop floating away. Then watered the sand and re packed it. Ready for rebar now. Also, my new framer starts Monday, so we are off to the...

Plumbing question on air intake at spa

I bet you are right. I can't imagine there not being an internally threaded coupler to a smaller control valve. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah..... that is probably a better answer than mine. Don't pay until it is the way he agreed with you to do it or you will never see him again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I may not be too concerned about the chlorinator only feeding the pool as long as you can circulate the spa at the same time. Of course no sanitization would happen when the spa is running solo. I would not accept that the spa always overflows. You want to not heat your pool unless you...

Plumbing question on air intake at spa

Do you ever plan to turn the air off completely? Maybe you could use an internal bushing down to the size you need and install or glue the fitting inside. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Cost for 2 Pentair Magicbowl's $11,480?!?!

That is what I was thinking. Stone columns In Texas cost me $400 each for 9' tall ones plus the footing. I would learn how to do it yourself later. Maybe get your house mason to build the stone or do it yourself. 2' tall columns would take a novice a day on a weekend at most. Sent...

    New build in central Texas

One thing about this layout is that it is deceptively larger than the 3D model looks. For scale......The spa is an 8' spa. The covered area is almost 2,000 sq ft and the uncovered is almost 1,000 sq ft. The area on either side of the fire pit is around 10' from the water edge to the grass...

    New build in central Texas

So, since I am not making actual progress, I have been working on design progress. I moved the fire pit away from the house to be in code compliance. It is a wood pit with gas starter. It is centered between the lighted bubbler scupper bowls.... that I plan to cast myself. The fire...

    Hole in new gunite wall

I know these things are repaired. A friend of mine bought a house with an ancient pool that floated before he bought it. He had his pool jack hammered to replace all of the plumbing and added a second drain for VGB compliance. That was 10 years ago and no leaks. It is frustrating to...

    New build in central Texas

Well, I ordered a load of sand for Saturday, but the truck broke down..... no progress this weekend. On another note. The framer abandoned the house part way through. I think he was too busy and I was not his priority. Hope to start a new framer next week. I am optimistic that after...

    DIY cast Scupper Bowls?

    DIY cast Scupper Bowls?

Anyone ever try to cast your own scupper bowls? I am thinking of trying it out. I need extra large ones because I plan to have lighted bubblers in them and I want to not lose too much water. I was looking at using a product like this: Z Liqui-Crete (add mix) If you look at the...

    New build in central Texas

Yes, the lid centers are filled with plaster to match the pool finish. I just have to remember to have them on site during plastering. They are 20" diameter and smooth with the bottom of the pool. One single drain is all that is needed for VGB compliance. I have one single one centered in...
