Muriatic Acid Vs "Green" Muriatic Acid

Yep. I just discovered this myself. Headed back to the home store to exchange "green" for regular. It's the same price, but no details on the label. Live and learn. Plus, there is no 20% option in Pool Math, so using this would feel like a step backward toward the guessing game. TFP Rookie...

Thinking about closing my own pool but have some concerns

That blow-thru plug is awesome! I just ordered two. I never would have found that anywhere else. And here I thought I knew what I was doing with this pool for the last 3 years.

I donated! Don't know why I waited so long, but there you go. Thanks for the nudge, Kim!

A Convert and a hearty Thank You to TFP!!

...and I haven't even fixed the actual problem yet. But the wonderful people and insights on here have already got the proverbial lightbulb blazing. I'll lead with the end: I have a TF100 kit on the way and have identified the best and cheapest sources for recommended chemicals in my area...

    What's your pool cleaners name?

We have a Doheny’s Discovery. Trouble settling on a name. Wife likes Wall-E, but that’s taken. Son likes Gort. I’m leaning toward Mr. Clean, or maybe Vacuum da Gama of explorer fame.

Anything like an automation buyers guide...?

Yep. You kinda nailed it. Many of my clients are nuclear engineers. I'll keep noodling and post on progress in the appropriate places. cheers

    Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

I just pulled the trigger on the Doheny Discovery before the sale price runs out November 6! I am jazzed. This is the first step in upgrading a bunch of stuff and moving toward automation and stuff. Very excited to welcome the little guy to his new home. Maybe i'll call him Gort. or Mr. Clean...

Anything like an automation buyers guide...?

Agreed on the single speed pump. This is part of a much larger equipment relocation and upgrade, including an IntelliFlow VS pump. Maybe the pump upgrade will solve my current issue, which is this. When I set both skimmers wide open, I only get good flow through one of them. To have both...

Anything like an automation buyers guide...?

Actually, the Intellivalve actuator does 7.5 degree increments across the 180 deg swing. Some flow meter measurements at pump preset speeds allow you to measure each flow and setup modes to better balance flows. Or such is my working theory. Jandy makes an add on board that does the same thing...

Anything like an automation buyers guide...?

Jim, That's a great standard answer, and very thorough. And yes, I still have many questions, but will continue reading. Some of the main features I'm interested in include: Customized pre-set modes like skim, circulate, heat, clean, spa Precise valve control to balance flow from each return...

Anything like an automation buyers guide...?

I've searched the threads and forums and I get that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to pool automation, nor should there be. I guess what I'm looking for is something that could take some basic parameters, like pool size and equipment/stuff to control, and give some basic guidelines on...

    Considering equipment relocation... any advice?

Good points, all. And, we have an HOA with their own requirements, so have to make sure to file plans and get permission/exemptions. Ain't bureaucracy grand?!

Thanks for the catalyst, Kim. This is an awesome forum with some terrific people! Plenty to ponder, plan, scheme, sketch and model.... muahahaha...

    Considering equipment relocation... any advice?

The flow to the spa could be better, but it's adequate. I suspect the vintage pump probably has a pretty beat-up impeller, but have never disassembled it to inspect it thoroughly. I'm also getting to the point that I have to keep the pump filter basket spotless and the filter cartridge clean to...

OK, so robot... any great ideas for the connected spa?

Loving the robot names... Wall-E is awesome!! I'll have to think of something clever when I pull the trigger and get mine. Good to know it can at least do a partial spa job. Will have to give that a shot and see what happens. cheers

    Considering equipment relocation... any advice?

Thanks for that. I'm in no rush. Just beginning the search process, but definitely do not want to screw up a bad idea with bad advice from a bad contractor, if you follow me. cheers

    Considering equipment relocation... any advice?

Thanks, Catanzaro. You are hitting upon my exact concerns. I really want to relocate the stuff, build an enclosure to protect all of the equipment from the weather, and do some upgrades in the process. Here is what I'm thinking/hoping: Move the existing pad to the location in the diagram...

Aqualink Control in general + applet vs PDA

Yep. For some reason, you can find them for sale, but they only seem to talk about them behind the pro-access firewall on the website. If you go for it, please post a thread with your experiences. Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks, Maddie. I am thinking you're right and am currently eyeing the Doheny Discovery version of the s300. Learning tons as my wishlist grows... cheers

Aqualink Control in general + applet vs PDA

I've been looking at automation options and have similar needs for pre-sets, scenes and on-the-fly adjustments. I didn't see anyone mention the Jandy Smart JVA add-on boards. They can go either on the actuators or in the power center, if there's room. They are supposed to allow valves to be set...

OK, so robot... any great ideas for the connected spa?

That's kind of cool. Does it do well with fine stuff, like DE that always seems to settle after a backwash? Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it. In the summer, I usually just hop in with the vacuum hose in hand!

    Considering equipment relocation... any advice?

We are thinking about getting bids to relocate our pool equipment (heater, filter, new pump, possible automation upgrade). Anyone have recent experience in having this done? I'm guessing we need a PB/renovator and will probably need to coordinate with an electrician and gas company to move the...

PB just took the gloves off

Just a thought... As far as your PB goes, don't forget about online web reviews for leverage. I had a channel drain installed along with French drains to move storm water to back of property and stop flooding the pool and spa. They messed up the channel drain. Phone calls and emails did no good...

OK, so robot... any great ideas for the connected spa?

So, I'm looking at robotic pool cleaners. Leaning toward the Doheny Discovery, mostly because of the price. I guess I'll have to read up more on the main drain issue. I have two in the deep end. Any ideas or insights for keeping the spa clean, as well? Are there mini-robots? I'm guessing...
