Closing a new AGP in Portland

That is a good point, thanks for bringing it up. After our catastrophic ice storm last year (and by catestrophic, I mean better than an inch of freezing rain on everything, knocking power poles down all around us, etc, it would have been hard on the pool!) I really upped my backup game. New...

Closing a new AGP in Portland

I see that this has kind of been asked in various threads, in various ways, but I was curious what the current consensus is. Aside from the occasional (every 40 years) ice storm, here in Portland it doesn't get especially cold in the winter. Rare is the day where the temperature isn't above...

Anyone rough bungie chord size for above ground pool cover to ground stakes?

Depends entirely on the cords. They range anywhere from 2x to 5x length expansion. Personally I think I'd use something like paracord before I'd use a bungie.

Cannot find bonding lug location on Raypak 156A heater

No, just the screw and the copper lug. The screw is a bit larger than the hole so it didn’t want to thread. I used a stainless self-tapping screw instead. I’ll end up replacing that screw with a stainless bolt the right size, since self tappers are technically not code compliant.

Cannot find bonding lug location on Raypak 156A heater

Alright, I found it! You inspired me. That video clip is a 406A (I think), the layout is totally different from my 156A. But it got me wondering. The manual shows the lug on the right side, but the gas and power connections are on the left. That clip shoes the bonding on the same side as...

Cannot find bonding lug location on Raypak 156A heater

The manual does not say too much other than the heater needs to be bonded, and they have a picture with an arrow pointing to where the lug should go. But there is nothing there! No hole, no indentation like there should have been a hole, nothing. Just perfectly smooth painted sheet metal like...

Pump running dry when high speed backwashing

If I backwash at low speed, it seems to work fine. Certainly not getting as clean as it ought to, but the basic function seems to work. But when I run the backwash with the pump on high speed, it eventually runs dry. Sometimes nearly instantly, sometimes takes a minute or two, but eventually...

Gas build up in SWG when running?

That I could do with what I have on hand. I do have a couple Jandy check valves I picked up that I haven't plumbed in yet. And I can easily find a use for the two-way valve coming tomorrow -- when I installed the pool I used a pair of Fibropool valves that looked like Jandy knockoffs for half...

Gas build up in SWG when running?

I was about to say "No, everywhere in the manual it clearly shows it bulge up." and then I went and re-read the manual very carefully. There is indeed a small paragraph that says (paraphrasing) "for variable or low speed pumps, invert the cell". So. I shall invert the cell and problem...

Gas build up in SWG when running?

Good eye ;-). Yes, I screwed up the install on those 3-way Jandy valves when I first did the plumbing, and left myself no way to close the bypass. Thought I was so smart until I went to turn on the heater today. Now I have a two-way Jandy valve on the way that should be here tomorrow so I can...

Gas build up in SWG when running?

Sure! I'm not even embarrassed about this picture, either, I'm finally feeling like I'm getting close to having things how I want them. All that's left, really, is tidying up the cords going to the SWG and flow sensor. And fixing one persistent leak that drips once every 60 seconds. Grrr.

Gas build up in SWG when running?

My setup: I have a nearly brand new Circupool RJ30+. My pump is a two speed Hayward Powerflo Matrix "1.5hp", 23 inch sand filter. Pool is 21 foot AGP, 10K gallons. Water is TFP-clear with all the numbers in a good place. Salt is a little higher than I intended, 4000ppm, but still within...

    DIY AGP build in Oregon

Just completed the work this weekend. I will add a photo of where it stands right now, here is some thoughts I've had during the process, what I'd do differently, etc. First, the pool. Bought it from Pool Factory, it is a 21 foot diameter Saltwater LX. Stainless skimmer panel, and resin...

How out of vertical can uprights be before it matters?

We installed our AGP this weekend. When installing the wall and connecting the ends together, we found that it was a bit tight. I kicked a couple of base plates a small amount, and then we managed to get it lined up to get the bolts in. But ... here's where I think we made a mistake. The...

    Critique my plan

I was planning on 2 inch plumbing. My thought was to oversize everything a bit, especially when the marginal cost to do so is low. Maybe something like what you did, since my planned pool is just a little smaller than yours, and it looks like you went with a nice pump and a slightly oversized...

    Critique my plan

It may be soon enough that I could cancel it, sure. I could probably sell it locally in a pinch for what I paid for it, or close. Now that calls into question my whole plan :). I wanted something that filtered better than sand but was less work than cartridge filters :). If I go with sand...

    Critique my plan

I'm thinking of getting this: - Pentair SuperFlo Pool Pump, 115/230V, 1.5 HP - Pentair Tagelus Sand Filter, 20 in Tank Kind of an expensive setup for a little 21 foot AGP. And it's only a single speed pump. I just want reliable, and I'm okay with overkill. Is it really worth blowing silly...

EDIT - Pool Bonding Question - See Comment # 6

The uprights are just supports on the outside of the wall, mostly they just keep the pool round (the wall strength depends on it) and provide vertical support for the top rail. The wall itself is continuous, although the Saltwater pool that I bought does have a separate panel just for the...

EDIT - Pool Bonding Question - See Comment # 6

How would you bond a pool that has steel walls and resin everything else? Attach a wire to one of the bolts on the skimmer panel, maybe?

Opinions on this Doheny's filter setup

Dohenys told me to buzz off. What they have on the web site is the best they can do. So my options are to pay 70 or 80 bucks the the plastic base plate, get the cartridge filter & pump separately, and then I probably will have paid more than buying the system, tossing the original motor, and...

    Liner replacement/wall repair

As I have been shopping for pools, I've noticed that a lot of manufacturers use "all resin" to mean everything but the wall. I wonder if this will change now that there are a few pools on the market that actually do have resin walls.

Pool liner shortage -- what does the future hold?

Found out something interesting today. Pool Factory does not show the expandable liners as available on their web site, but they do in fact have some. They are reserving them for package purchases. So my pool, along with the expandable liner, is on the way and should be here in a few days...

Water Lowered for Winter but Still at Return line Height

For places that don't really see much in the way of snow & ice (it can get below freezing here for sure, but most days it goes back above freezing for a while), can I just plug the return and cover the skimmer, drain as much water as possible from everything else, and leave it? I'm planning on...

Pool liner shortage -- what does the future hold?

I guess that's my question. When should I panic and just buy a regular liner so I'm not out a whole season? LOL. We just ended a season, so maybe things will ease up over the winter with lower demand. Maybe I'll write a little script to go out every day and hit the big sites looking for the...

Pool liner shortage -- what does the future hold?

That's something I've been trying to determine. Please correct me :). I read that a standard liner will accommodate up to a few inches, not a foot or more. And that an expandable liner is rated by the deepest it will go -- e.g. a 72 inch expandable liner is rated to go as deep as 6 feet...

Pool liner shortage -- what does the future hold?

I have several options for a 21 foot liner, if I want a basic one. But finding an expandable one has been difficult. That's what I spec'd on my Pool Factory package, and they haven't written me a note yet to tell me the liner isn't actually available. Does anyone have any idea what the...

Planning phase, have some questions about AGP install process

7? Did I read that right? SEVEN?! Dang! LOL Any of them use an expandable liner? The place I'm buying my hot tub from also does pools, and they used to install AGPs. They still do vinyl liners. They won't touch expandable, they say the failure rate during install is 1 out of every 3 or...
