    Pentair IC40

Just to add a "data point" to this wonderful TFP knowledge base: I also have a cracked and leaking IC40 case AND my piping was misaligned at installation. Not a terrible hit since it is now 6 1/2 years old and has generated for about 9,500 hours. But still a shame since it is still generating...

Pump Priming Time and the Main Bearing

So, would you say that 35 second priming time will damage the seal? Is there something I can do to reduce this priming time?

Pump Priming Time and the Main Bearing

It takes about 35 seconds for my pump to prime after cleaning out the basket. I was told that this was excessive and would destroy the main bearing after a while. I tried pouring a 5 gallon bucket of water into the basket before putting the lid back on and priming but it doesn't reduce the...

Calcium issue in Grotto to become scifair project?

Thanks. That is good info. I haven't been able to really clean the stuff completely off. Good to know about pressure washing. The sealing makes total sense since it is the water that flowing through the thinset that allows the efflorescence to happen.

Calcium issue in Grotto to become scifair project?

To me this looks like efflorescence http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efflorescence. What really caught my eye is not the big splotch in the middle but the white stuff coming out of the edge of the grout in the upper right corner. I see a lot of this white stuff on the edge of my grout on my...

Scale and the CSI vs LSI

I lowered my water line by an inch and now I see a new scale line. I have recently been enlightened, having learned about TFP, water balance, CSI, etc. Before my enlightenment, I had allowed a stark ring of scale to form. Most likely by allowing my CSI to drift too high in the positive...

    Crazy idea?

Thanks duraliegh, I remember JohnBridge.com! They are like TFP but for tile. I spent a lot of time there about 10 years ago when we tiled our floors. Great suggestion. I was theorizing that the process is now stopped because I have balanced water and even pretty high CH - 510 ppm - now.

    Crazy idea?

Early on in the life of my pool the tile grout emitted white streaks that I am pretty sure is calcium dissolved out of the grout. Didn't know about CH or CSI back then. I now estimate that the water had a very negative CSI back then. I see that the proper way to clean this is full...

    Build in Gilbert Arizona

Also, make sure that you check out pool school and get on top of your water balance immediately. My pool builder didn't tell me anything other than checking chlorine and pH. Buy a good test kit and do it yourself. There is one pool supply store in Gilbert that is rediclulous when it comes to...

    Build in Gilbert Arizona

I am also in gilbert. I have a 2 speed pump and the in-floor heads pop up just fine on low speed. If I have some big wind I might turn it on high to clean out the pool. Otherwise low speed cleans the pool just fine.

Question about CH testing with K-2006

Chem thanks. Good info. I started playing around with the Pool Calculator - very cool. When I got back on Sunday after being gone 6 days my pH was at 8.2 and CSI was 0.52 (pH was 7.6 when I left). Added 2 qts MA and today pH was 7.6 and CSI was at -0.01. I'm going to drive up my CYA as...

Question about CH testing with K-2006

Thanks. I already have scale. It is a constant battle to keep my pH down. It'll shoot up if I don't stay on top of it. Though it is a bit easier to control now. During the first couple of years with the pool I needed to add a quart of MA every couple of days. I am just beginning to track...

Question about CH testing with K-2006

Thanks. Now I think I have a feel for it. After the advice above, I am calling it at 510 ppm.

Question about CH testing with K-2006

I bought a K-2006 test kit yesterday. Here’s what I came up with: FC 3.0 CC 0 PH 7.8 TA 70 CH 570 ? Maybe CYA <30 Temp 76 I really question the CH test results. When I do the TA test it is very stark change from green to red. I expected the same definite results with the CH test. It...

    Greeting from Gilbert, AZ

Oh man, what a great web site. My first post. I tried putting my trust in the local pool store guy. Thought he would take care of me. I took my pool water over to the pool store guy. Asked him to check my salt. He tells me that my salt was at 2500 ppm. He says I need to add salt. I told...
