When my two speed Hayward TriStar is on low I will pick up as much as an inch of air above the basket but everything still working normal. Throw the switch on high speed for a minute and air is bled out. Pump has never lost its prime. You still need to check the obvious... cover to the pump...

A thin film on the surface is normal. Deeper corrosion or pitted I would be alerted to something else going on. A visual check of your wiring and bonding cable might be in order.

Mine leaked slightly at 3450...i put a piece of protective cardboard and then snugged up a large hose clamp around the union nut and tapped the screw on the clamp ever so slightly...it moved maybe a 1/4 of an inch. Hasn't leaked since.

May want to contact whom you purchased your motor from..your trouble shooting is good.

What make of valve?

Any signs of water under the motor on your pad? A mirror with a flashlight might help your observations.

Does look heat related...water thats stuck in the pump can boil and cause damage like this..might want to look at the impeller and diffuser as well.

Using the dpd test from the instructions of the k 2006c kit. Uses 9ml sample. The 9058 does not have a color chart. Does the color chart on a k1004 comparator apply?

Overnight loss less than .5 . Maybe a half dozen pinhead size black brownish dots vitamin c rub eliminated those easy to get at. Take pride in never having to shock the pool. FC/CYA always adhered to. Pool water is crystal clear.

I would inspect and repair any suspect wiring before new pump install..whats under that electrical tape is probably scary. Weathertite conduit to the pump will help.

List of your other equipment will help. 18 psi is time to clean filter in my system but shouldn't cause overheat. A fast troubleshoot would be to amp clamp(measure current) at the leads to your pump motor and compare to specs on the motor label. Are you 120 or 240 vac?

The other two steps were fairly clean underneath. Top one was nasty. Plastic was getting soft so three new ones on order.

Thermal overload may reset. Try to power up again. Make sure it primes and builds pressure. If not further troubleshooting needed.
