Ideas for making draining AGP with a utility pump faster?

Nope it's uphill too. Ladder is already out and cleaned, but I'll try the 2x4 trick. Also I'm going to move it to the other side of the yard (down slope) and just watch it to see if it starts puddling in the yard. We have a retaining wall along our back and my husband has been worried about...

Ideas for making draining AGP with a utility pump faster?

Any suggestion on how to raise it (while not holding it)? I"m trying to think of something I can put in the pool to set it on, but coming up blank. Seems the biggest problem is that the I'm not only having the hose run up the 52 in wall, but then it's going up a slope to where it's getting...

Ideas for making draining AGP with a utility pump faster?

We bought a 1/3 hp submersible pump to drain under the 4-6 inches under the return for winter. The box says 1920gal/hr. It's been nearly 24 hours and has moved barely an inch I'd say. Obviously the hose is going pretty high up to get out of the pool, it's stretched to its max b/c we're draining...

Update: AGP Deck Build with pics, partially buried oval Doughboy

Wow, I really appreciate the update (as a new pool owner/current deck builder)! Couple of questions: 1. Do you have a beaded liner? Do you think that would have made a difference in needing to take up the decking? 2. We left about 2 inches up to the railing, but thinking about a border up and...

What kind of rope to use for weighted bottles of bleach tied to cover eyelet?

I plan on blowing up 2-4 inner tubes and using them to create a runoff system of sorts to prevent heavy water retain-age on the winter cover. Then I plan on tying bleach bottles to the eyelets to keep it weighted down. Any suggestions on what kind of rope to use or ideas/hacks on how to make...

    Closing pool with high CYA

I"m in a similar situation as you. I don't think there's anything different that needs to be done b/c of high CYA when closing. Just make sure you test it before draining b/c it IS possible that you'll lose some over the winter. That's my hope!

    Winter cover above ground

Can I ask what you'd recommend instead? We're in an area that can have 1 inch or 1 yard at a time, so you never know. My plan was a winter cover (covered by a leaf net until leaves are done) and also using a few stacked tubes tied to the middle in order to keep it tented.

How to close the pool a month or more before winterizing?

We finally got our pool through a SLAM and got it looking great. But for various reasons, we're done using it for the season though it's too early temp wise to close it. I currently have a leaf cover on it b/c our oak tree is beginning to drop leaves and acorns like crazy. We were out of town...

Help with pool covering, tried everything!

I haven't looked too much into these, but I have them saved in my Amazon cart for when we finish our deck. Maybe something like these would work? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XB2XZJM/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A3KWBMW7CVR8SB&psc=1

Is it normal for FC to increase over many hours?

Gotcha, I did put it all in there but haven't upgraded the app yet as I planned on doing it upon spring opening. I added 12.5% in the amounts it told me to at each testing for SLAM at 140, which was 55 target FC. Until yesterday when I realized CYA dropped to 120. Only reason I'm leaving CYA so...

Is it normal for FC to increase over many hours?

Thanks. But then that gets concerning when trying to maintain and check OCLT..... These are my test numbers for the past few days. It was still dark outside this am to tell how it looked. I didn't add any LC though. I haven't always tested for CC. This is all assuming I've added the proper...

Is it normal for FC to increase over many hours?

I'm in the middle of a SLAM and having to maintain very high FC due to high CYA. I was at 140 for quite a few days, so targeting 55. I checked after work and FC was 51, so I added enough to bring it to 55 around 4pm. Then tested around 6pm and it was 56. Great. But I tested again around 10pm...

    Mustard Algae or silt?

I'm in a very similar situation as you (first year owning a pool, battling algae, just finding this site at the end of the season). But, think of it this way, we'll close soon (if you city is the one close to mine) and then we'll open with all of this new found knowledge and have a great summer...

Show off your AGP Deck please!

Ours is a work in progress. Top deck is old, but roof, pool and other decks are all new this year. We obviously still need some rails and we'll level the trampoline and build a rope bridge to it. I really want to finish around the pool but the distance from the pool to the fence and the pool to...

Killer CYA - Stuck - HELP!

I was in a similar position with a high cya (160) and algae bloom. However, we'll be closing within the next month so I didn't want to rent a pump to drain now, only to have to do it again at closing. Also, we only get a few hours of direct, no longer hot sun so I'm hoping cya will lessen over...

    OCLT question

Thanks. I did the diluted cya test for a few days and consistently came up with 140. I've since stopped that though. I'll just go ahead and monitor this weekend and keep it at 55. It's not too much work. I'll see where I'm at Monday am and go from there. TBH, I don't even see us using the...

    OCLT question

I'm slamming with high numbers to make sure any algae is gone before closing up for the winter. My CYA is super high, 140, but draining weeks prior to closing wasn't optimal so I chose to heighten FC. I was able to keep it in the 40s all week and started to SLAM yesterday pm. Easily got to 55...

    Mustard Algae or silt?

Based on my very limited experience, it looks like dead algae. It's probably settling in little divets in your liner. I've battled this off and on all summer and finally pulled my ladder when it got swampy. It began clearing so fast. When you backwash, are you rinsing after for 30+sec? Have...

Can I use a “regular” magnetic stirrer? *pic included*

Oooh, this just gave me a great idea! One of our closest couple friends are chemists. Duh me. He's a professor and she's in pharmaceuticals. Surely they have an extra something lying around I could borrow in exchange for unlimited pool time (which they basically already have anyway!).

UPDATED: CLOSING EARLY DUE TO ALGAE/HIGH CYA. DRAIN NOW OR IN SPRING?

So oddly enough, things are improving... I decided to add a gallon of 12.5% a day and keep the pump running while we were oot for 3 days (dad added it). Pulling the ladder and putting on the leaf cover really helped because we came home to a blue, albeit cloudy, pool. A few heavy rains and...
