    6ppm consumption or bad bleach?

My pool has been consuming around 6ppm bleach for the past month. Every day I've been feeding it 128oz of 10%. That's ~6.1ppm per poolcalculator. Today I noticed what might have been algae on the light. I scrubbed it down and removed the light. Nothing behind the light. I decided to SLAM...

    Staining from Trichlor puck?

An hour ago I would have told you I did, but that is not the process I followed. I used more chlorine than I had to but the mustard algae is still gone.

    Staining from Trichlor puck?

I dropped it down to 45. There was no way I could do a mustard SLAM with triple digit CYA. I never did actually make it all the way to mustard levels. I had to hold at about 75% for a longer time frame. It's super tough to hold a pool at 40ppm FC. It's likely what caused the copper to make...

    Staining from Trichlor puck?

This guy was way too generous. He left me with triple digit CYA, mustard algae, a plumming leak, and now copper as well. I wish I had tested for copper. I would have drained the pool completely instead of just reducing the CYA and then SLAMming. :x Some people don't deserve a pool. Too...

    Staining from Trichlor puck?

I think you guys just nailed it. I wasn't aware of pucks that contained copper. They became more pronounced when I SLAMmed the pool. Isn't this consistent with copper as well?

    Staining from Trichlor puck?

White plaster, brownish stains mostly. Around some of the clearly defined round area there is a blueish tint

    Staining from Trichlor puck?

I have several stains in the bottom of my pool. All of them start at about 3" round and have a comet like tail heading toward the main drain. This is obviously where someone in the past has tossed trichlor pucks directly into the pool. What kind of stain would this be? I would expect to see...

Small Gunite pool in Houston done, pics updated 8/17/13

Re: New Small Gunite pool in Houston Tx, lots of Pics! Quest I haven't selected a PB yet. I'm waiting until after the season then drain and refurbish. If you're going with a SWG normal CYA levels (for a SWG) will fine.

Small Gunite pool in Houston done, pics updated 8/17/13

Re: New Small Gunite pool in Houston Tx, lots of Pics! Quest May I ask what PB you used? I'm in need of a re-plaster and would like to do a small refurbish at the same time. Are you going with a SWG? I didn't see a tree anywhere in sight. Plan to keep your CYA higher than normal, the...

    Dialing back a Spa Blower

I don't get much out of the jets at all without the blower. The spa doesn't have a separate pump. It uses the main pump. The spa is only ~6 feet from the blower. How would a ball valve work in this situation? If the blower is a fixed cfm wouldn't we need to dispose of the unwanted air...

    Dialing back a Spa Blower

The blower on my spa is too powerful causing water to spill out over the top. It's the smallest one (1hp) that I could find. Could I plumb in a T with a valve an regulate the airflow this way? Essentially spilling out a portion of the unwanted air?

Any point in trying to shock/Slam during heat wave?

You're going to have a hard time keeping any FC in the pool with that low of a CYA. It's all going to go to UV and not toward the Algae.

Any point in trying to shock/Slam during heat wave?

It's not the heat. Many people keep pools open for months at a time in the south where the temps are seldom below 90 for any given day. 620 oz is only ~5 bottles of 8.25% bleach. That really isn't that much. I have to add 3+ just to get my pool above shock levels. What is your CYA level?

    Small Spots of Algae

You may be on to something here. All of the spots are in an area of the pool without a return. It was meant to be serviced by a waterfall which has a leak and hasn't been used. I'll pull a couple of samples from that area and compare with an area around a return.

    Small Spots of Algae

also of note When I took ownership of the pool CH was normal and CYA was off the charts (best estimate I have is ~160). Both of these dropped predictably with a partial drain. The partial drain was to drop the CYA low enough to be able to SLAM for the mustard algae the previous owner left as...

    Small Spots of Algae

The numbers are from my own test kit that is a DPD test using a colorimeter, specifically then Lamotte 2056. Resolution on cholorine is .1 ppm +/-2% from 0 to 10ppm. Picking up a 2nd test kit is probably a good idea. The SWG is not yet installed. I have ~18K gal. plaster pool the SWG is a...

    Small Spots of Algae

First post but I've learned a lot from this board. Today I noticed a small spot of algae and need to start the shock process. Since I know I'll be asked .... FC 6.81 TC 6.91 PH 7.6 TA 97 CH 166 *was next on the list to deal with CYA 45 I have a very high exposure to UV and normally use a LOT...
