Pool Under Construction SWG vs Chlorinated

A SWG is a winner just on convenience alone. It just makes it a heck of a lot simpler to chlorinate your pool all the time.

    Howdy from Houston

Tanning ledge is fine if you think you’ll actually use it. Small kids, grand kids, like that area. But put it off to the side if you want one and leave the middle open for swimming/playing. Just my two cents. I love ours. The dogs use it a lot too. It’s kinda their spot! This is a great...

    Pool Build

Texantoasted, Hey there neighbor, congrats on getting a pool soon. I want to mention something that was said earlier but I think you already know......we don’t close pools in League City! It doesn’t get that cold here. You will or at least can use your pool/hot tub year round. Heating is...

    Proposed New Build Houston Suburb

missunstoppable, Congrats on getting a pool and welcome to TFP! You have come to the right place to learn about building a pool and taking care of it. Pool looks good though I would consider moving the steps if you want to be able to do full laps w/o them in the way. Also, I would get a...

Should I not waste time getting bids from TX pool builders who are against SWCG?

My pool builder is in north Houston and they didn’t discourage me from getting a SWG. I was wary of PB’s that wanted me to not get one. I told all the PB’s I wanted a SWG.

New Build in The Woodlands TX - Update: Landscaping!

Sweet!!! Love it! Of course I’m kinda biased since I’ve got blue smurf as well!!!😆 Congrats! Pool looks awesome!

Quarantine Pool Build - Please Critique!

It’ll be fine with a SWG. Salt damaging travertine is a myth in Texas for some reason. I only have travertine coping but I can’t tell you, over a year and a half later, everything is fine.

Houston pool build - all filled up, time to swim!

Looking good! I like the idea of different color finishes for the spa and pool. I thought about doing our tanning ledge a different color. It wasn’t expensive relative to the price of the pool but I’d already spent more than I wanted so I mixed the idea. Can’t wait to see how yours comes out.

Clarification on Ozone vs. UV---High daily FC loss

Nice looking pool neighbor! Sorry you’re having some FC loss issues but it seems you’re almost there. Always good to see another LC resident on here! Surprisingly, I seem to have had one of the few builders that didn’t try to talk me out of a SWG. Been worth every penny. When buying your...

    Suction issues

Thanks TS! I did ask if she was able to move the impeller. She said she could but it didn’t feel smooth. Is this normal? She said the only visible leak was when she’d Darn the pump off at the bottom side of that valve. I will tell her to try to run some water over the lid basket.

    Suction issues

I am trying to help a friend out with some suction issues. A few days ago she let her pump run dry for about 3-hours on accident when she was trying to drain some junk from the bottom of the spa. Wednesday everything was fine, now today, the pool is not suctioning properly. Filter PSI is...

Start up pool chemicals-League City, TX

Hey Krysib, I’m in League City too! One thing you need to do right away is head to Walmart and load up on some jugs of Pool Essentials bleach. Get as many as you can b/c you’ll need them without a SWG. I like to dilute my chemicals before I add them so it would be a bad idea to have a...

New Pool Build in League City, TX

Our was different shades of green when it had water sitting in it from various rain storms. It’ll be fine. They’ll pump it out when they com to tile your pool. For now, enjoy watering three times a day!!!

New Pool Build in surrounding area of Houston, Tx which PB to go with.

Those prices do seem high to me and my pool was just finished last year. I would try getting at least two more quotes. Also, do some research here. UV/ozone is not recommended. Only bleach or a SWG is what you need. Good luck!

Pebble tec , pebble sheen, or plaster

ReneeN, We have Pebble sheen and love it. It’s not hard on the feet at all and it looks beautiful. That being said, from what I’ve learned on this website, the quality of your plaster will highly depend on who does the application. Your best bet is to ask your builder to see some pools...

    Houston Pool Owner’s Question

I was told to put a beach ball in your yard and observe where the winds blow it and that should determine where you should have your skimmers. Prolly should be done quite a few times to get an overall idea of what the prevailing winds are in your area.

    Is this pool worth getting?

When deciding on depth, you really need to think about how you plan on using your pool. I wanted a pool where people could hang out, play volleyball, or swim laps. So a sport configuration worked best for me. If you like diving a lot that maybe a traditional deep end works better for you...

    Question about water sampling

The pump had been running since 7:30 am and I tested at 3pm. All of my testing materials where clean and dry so they weren’t tainted with any other water. It really had me scratching my head.

I should’ve tried a third spot as well. Will do that tomorrow. It was so odd. I was hoping someone could explain it.

Howdy.. Another new pool in Texas

Congrats!!! An exciting day for sure. You may know this already but just in case, your water will have a greenish tint to it when filled up but it will go away in a day or two after start up.

How Clear is TFP Clear? Let's See (Pics Only Please).

Still beautiful a little over a year after completion. TFP works for sure. I try to tell my all my friends with pools about TFP, but they all just want to buy stuff from the pool store or have a service do it for them. Their choice but I can’t afford those options, which is why I take care...
