Delayed opening - what are my options?

The way it has been going, I think it will just stay closed until all the backyard reno is complete. I wonder if I am creating some kind of super-algea in the pool by delaying the opening...

Delayed opening - what are my options?

Hi guys, I have been able to succesfully able to open/close my salt water pool in previous years and the trick has always been to close late and open early to avoid having to deal with too much algea. This year, because of stone work happening around the pool, I kept the safety cover on to...

Adjusting pump runtime / speed and SWG generation % setting

Thanks all I have found my SWG floor to be around 1350. Min 1500 rpm makes sense. SWG % clarification helps as well I will observe skimming at this level and adjust as necessary (skimmer has a weir door) And I agree, heater is a complication as it has its own minimum flow requirement :( it...

Adjusting pump runtime / speed and SWG generation % setting

I have a VS pump and have been favouring lower speeds. I have time periods where it run low, and others where it runs relatively fast. With the low speeds I have noticed: 1. surface skimming is really slow and arguably not very effective. 2. SWG is not kicking in at these low levels. A side...

    PVC size for new pump

Draining / winterizing is regular practice here yes. But I was under the impression even with the pipes drained, the extreme cold alone would be enough to crack the rigid PVC pipes.

yes, thats what I am worried about.

    PVC size for new pump

Sorry guys on this one - not sure what happened. This was supply to be a reply to a prior post I saw yesterday, instead I see it as a new post now... Not sure what happened. Was supposed to be a reply to : PVC size advice - NEW pump install (pics)

1.5 vs 2 upgrade - GPM restrictions / limitations, right sized pump, etc.

    PVC size for new pump

I am asking/trying to answer similar questions. I had an EcoStar Pump that died and I had the option to replace it with the 2.7HP or 1.85HP VSP and went with the 1.85HP version simply because the 1.5 plumbing I have would not be able to sustain the GPM of the powerful pump anyways. I never ran...

Ecostar 3400vsp drive error - stall

Totally agree. Considering this data : TriStar VS | Pumps | In Ground Pool Pumps - Hayward Canada Pool Products where at the 10ft single data point for 50GPM, it would be 1375 RPM vs 1750 RPM. I don't have enough data to do the math, but I see your point. Price difference is around 400 CAD...

Ecostar 3400vsp drive error - stall

Hi again guys, Reached out to Hayward and they did offer some discount on their Tristar model if I order from them. So I will now be doing a bit of price check in town as well and weigh against cost vs. quick availability and pull the trigger. In the meantime though: First wanted to make...

Ecostar 3400vsp drive error - stall

Just to verify : ECM27SQU would be the model number right? with the square flange? You guys think this would be better than a Tristar? Or the idea is more cost savings since only the motor is being replaced?

Ecostar 3400vsp drive error - stall

Last night after replacing our dying T15 sale cell with a 940, pump did not start. I thought it could be because the water all drained from that section of plumbing but the basket in the pump was full and even after trying to dump buckets of water into the basket to flood the inside of the pump...

    Circular patches failing

Oh right very good point!! Maybe just add some that viynl repair glue and try to glue then back on.....

    Circular patches failing

So peel them off and psych again? I noticed they have used a strong glue to apply them. Will I have to remove and reapply the patches? Or do you I will be able to apply some of the same glue to make them stick again? Patches themselves are fine just slowly peeling...

    T15 Salt Cell Confusion

There is also a tcell940 model that has a 4 year warranty. It has production capacity inline with the longer warranty as far as I understand it. Again - has to be purchased from a dealer.

    Circular patches failing

I have these circular patches on the side and bottom of our viynl pool and slowly the pool cleaner has lifted their edges. These patches predate me. What could they be for? They seem to be in a line pattern making me think of a strong chemical that was dropped and damaged the liner? And...

Hayward SWG, salt level accuracy, potentially cell end of life?

They seem to be old, but at the same time seem to be doing fine. I will definitely try to get my hands on a Taylor test kit. Wondering though : why was it reading a very low 2400 at the beginning of the season I wonder (when we compensate for the 2 bags I added later, that is around 2800 -...

Hayward SWG, salt level accuracy, potentially cell end of life?

    To start with, I don't have a Taylor test kit :( but found a salt test trip AquaChek (expiry July 2022) Here are the values from Aqua Rite: 3.40, 22, 32.7, 0, 16p, -0.00 (Off) 3.40, 22, 26.8, 6.30, 16p, -3.20 (auto) 3.40, 22, 27, 6.34, 16p, -3.20 (auto AFTER 1 min off) salt cell ...

Hayward SWG, salt level accuracy, potentially cell end of life?

Hi there, I do not know the history of our SWG and its cell, but we have been using it for 2 years now with good success on salt levels reported on the Hayward Aquarite SWG. This year, after opening, and adding 5 bags of salt (to compensate for the drain/refill) salt cell was reading 2400 (when...

New Heater Installed, Water Pump not circulating anymore at low speeds

I believe the original installation (this is a rather old pool) had a drain suction line as well and that was capped off when the new liner was put in place a few years ago. I am told , according to new code, you cannot have a drain anymore. As a result, we have a 2nd suction line that is...

New Heater Installed, Water Pump not circulating anymore at low speeds

@borjis Thx. I ended up getting a glycerin filled unit for triple the price of a cheapo. Much sturdy feel. @JamesW Now I read around 13 at 2500 rpm. and max 24 when priming (3450 rpm). Based on these, I think paths are clear, there is no obstruction. In the afternoon i plan to go out and...

New Heater Installed, Water Pump not circulating anymore at low speeds

I checked the salt cell. clean no debris, still, rinsed it thoroughly with a jet spray. Backwashed again. clear water coming out. Still reading 23-24 psi at 2500rpm. BTW, when pump is turned off, my pressure gauge reads 10. is that normal? flawed gauge? (even though replaced last year) Could...

New Heater Installed, Water Pump not circulating anymore at low speeds

@JamesW : Pump is Hayward Ecostar variable speed Pump : most likely SP3400VSP. And I read 23 PSI @ 2500 rpm. On and Off I see bubbles coming out. Which wasn't the case before. Is there a leak somewhere causing drop in the ability of the pump to circulate water?

New Heater Installed, Water Pump not circulating anymore at low speeds

Interesting that you are focusing on the salt cell. Why I say this is because we have been having white stream out of the returns and we have always attributed that to water chemistry. It could very well be dissolving scale. we see that white stream only when the salt cell is activated. It...

New Heater Installed, Water Pump not circulating anymore at low speeds

salt cell was clean when i reconnected in spring. filter backwashed a week ago and not much action since then, but I can backwash for a longer time. I will get measurements at different speeds. Yes there seems to be a single suction, one line to pump and also one skimmer in the pool.
