    Solar Cover coverage and Evaporation

Awesome. Thanks Dave. I can't wait to go home and erase all the pencil marks on my skimmer and stop worrying about it!

    Solar Cover coverage and Evaporation

Just a quick update. My pool was still losing water with the cover on - probably about 3/4" in a week with the cover on the entire time. Was just about to throw the towel in and call someone to check it out so I decided to clean the pool last night before I made the call. Well, God must have...

    Bucket Test Results

Thanks Dave, I needed to hear that from an expert. Doing a no pump test right now, just in case. Knowing that there is some allowable difference puts my mind at ease somewhat. Thanks again.

    Bucket Test Results

Hi all, I previously did the bucket test, both pump on and pump off, with resulted in no difference in bucket and pool water loss. That was last week. Well I did the bucket test again (pump on) just to be sure. Did it from monday 7am to today 7am. 12 hours showed no loss, but after 24 hours...

Leaky Shaft Seal - Hayward Super Pump

Hayward Super Pump. Yeah, when I took it apart I could see the water line where it was dripping behind the seal plate.

Leaky Shaft Seal - Hayward Super Pump

Hi Smykowski, I'm not sure which o-ring you're referring to. The housing gasket? The last time I had it apart I could definitely see it was leaking behind the shaft seal.

Leaky Shaft Seal - Hayward Super Pump

Hi All, I'm having an issue with a leaky shaft seal. I've replaced the seal 3 times already. First time lasted a few weeks, second and third time less than a day before it started a slow drip again. Any thoughts on what else could be wrong? Possibly the seal plate? I couldn't see anything...

    Solar Cover coverage and Evaporation

Mike, No, I measured with the cover on. In hindsight I probably should have taken the cover off and let the rainwater on top of the solar cover run off into the pool before i made my starting level marks. There was quite a bit of water. Mostly pooled up down the seams running the length of the...

    Solar Cover coverage and Evaporation

I don't think my fence is a great wind barrier. It's just that fence around the pool and the house on one side of the pool. Other than that, it's all open. Also, it rained the night before and when I made my starting level marks, I did notice alot of water settled on top of the solar cover...

    Solar Cover coverage and Evaporation

Dave, thanks for the reply. It puts my mind at ease a little. I'm pretty sure I did the bucket test right and also did check at 12 and 24 hours. When I saw the loss overnight I was freaking out a little. Seemed a bit much even with the cover. My previous losses I was noticing before the bucket...

    Solar Cover coverage and Evaporation

Hi All, About 2 weeks ago I was concerned that I might have a leak. Even with the solar cover on, my pool was losing some water. Air temp dropped considerably those few days (around mid to upper 50's at night) and my water temp was pretty warm (high 80's). I did the bucket test (24 hours with...

Water Loss At Night With Solar Cover?

Hi Poolman10, Just curious to know what your end result was. I seem to be going through the same now - losing about 1/16 of an inch with the solar cover on all the time. Only part of the pool not under the solar cover are the steps and a small cutout around the ladder. Our pool temp was pretty...

    Evaporation with Solar Cover on

Strange, but the pool doesn't seem to lose any water during the day (solar cover still on), just overnight. Well, the bucket is in the pool now. Hopefully it doesn't rain today.

    Evaporation with Solar Cover on

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I was afraid of. The only portion not covered by the solar cover is the steps (about a 2.5 x 6 area?). I guess I 'll see what the bucket test shows.

    Evaporation with Solar Cover on

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone else has experienced evaporation with the solar cover on. I'll be doing the bucket test to check for leaks this week. About the past week or so, the temp. outside has cooled off at night and has been going as low as 55-57F. Pool temp was pretty high before...

    Advice please for liner tear.

I had a small tear in my pool on the slope going down to the deep end. Happened about 4 years ago I think. I just patched it (had to replace the patch once) and it has held up pretty good for me. I didnt have a big void though underneath. Maybe just patch it just to get you through for now?

Replace some DE after draining a little?

Yes, that pipe goes back to the pool. Sounds like a great idea and easy enough to do! Will definitely look into it. Thanks for all your help!

Replace some DE after draining a little?

Richard, that's a great idea! And I would feel comfortable working on that end. Now, please try not to laugh at my next dumb question-- what is a hose bib?

Replace some DE after draining a little?

Can't tell, it's all piped in where the water drains. Don't have to drain to often. Just this summer, when its rained its rained big time! Thank you for the suggestions. I will still look into replumbing if its possible in that amount of space. I might be nervous to do it, but it doesn't mean...

Replace some DE after draining a little?

That's alright, I would be a bit nervous to mess with pipes before the filter. I just drained the pool for a few minutes and then closed it back up. Pressure is the same as before I drained. Is it safe to assume I didn't lose that much de then?

Replace some DE after draining a little?

Just took apart an cleaned the filter last week. So right now there's 6lbs of de in there. Attached are pictures of my setup. Not using the chlorinator, just have it attached because I haven't had a chance to plug the holes!

Replace some DE after draining a little?

Added some details in my signature (well as much as I know without looking anything up)! Do you think I should be adding a little DE back in every time I drain then and if so, how much? I guess I could just recharge the DE, but I was hoping to avoid doing that every time it rains alot! Thanks...

Replace some DE after draining a little?

Hi jblizzle, I dont have anything that has those different modes (backwash, filter, waste). I think I must be calling the valve the wrong name, it's just a drain valve (no. 21 in this diagram) http://mypool.com/Images/parts-diagrams/Hayward-Perflex-EC-65.jpg Whenever I need to drain water out...

Replace some DE after draining a little?

Hi, I have a Hayward EC65, no multiport, just a backwash/drain valve on the bottom of the filter. We just got a good amount of rain the past 2 days and I want to drain my pool a little, only about an inch or so. Do I lose a little DE every time I drain or vacuum to waste? And if so, should I...
