    Might remove the Liquidator

Re: Liquidator removal help Lowes has all of their clear PVC stuff together somewhere in the plumbing aisles. You are looking for a 3/8" to 3/8" valve, it will have a white plastic body with a blue handle. The 3/8" is because it actually slips onto the *outside* of the tubing going to the LQ...

Hayward Navigator - buy or don't?

The Navigator came with something like a flow meter, it plugs in place of the cleaner itself, and snaps onto one of the hose sections. You then adjust suction until the little flapper is in the max/min area. I aim for halfway in between, and thats when I realized I had been using too much...

    Liquidator Questions

Just an FYI (and I will report back once its done): I was able to get the materials needed to remove the saddle valve on the inlet side of the LQ. Basically a 1.5"x1"x1.5" tee, and a 1" to .5" threaded bushing, along with a .5" to .25" barb tube fitting. Put the 1.5" tee inline with the...

Hayward Navigator - buy or don't?

Ive had mine for 4 years now. The first season it was perfect. But for the last few its been not working so hot. I never replaced any parts on it, I did pull it apart a few times to clean it. This year I was on a mission to get it working tip top again. Had Leslies pool check it out (they...

    Liquidator Questions

Assuming the same as water (which its not, but its a close guess), 1 cu ft of water = 7.5 gallons. Bleach is "heavier", density wise, but again a close enough guess I think. The base of the LQ is 15"x15", which translates into needing 7.75" of height to make the 15x15 base take up 1 cu ft. So...

    Liquidator Questions

Isnt that kind of high up? I could swear I also read the chlorine bed should be about 4" high. Could swear the funnel met the tube a lot higher than 4" up! -Chris

    Liquidator Questions

So the bleach level shouldnt be above the bottom of the white tube? I think I remember reading that, just didnt have the manual handy. I was actually able to park my LQ in my shed so its completely protected from heat and sun........about 8' away from my equipment, and about 4' higher. I get...

    Liquidator Questions

Yep, still have the flow meter inline. FWIW, I was able to keep my FC at around 1.5 or 2.0 depending on weather. My pool gets full sun from 7AM to 7PM every day. When it got REALLY hot here, the FC dropped from about 4.0 to 1.0. Lately its been partly cloudy and sunny on alternate days, but...

    Liquidator Questions

FWIW, last night I removed the check valve on the outlet side of the LQ (I had already removed the inlet check valve a couple weeks ago when I heard it was "buzzing"). It turns out the outlet side check valve was also "buzzing" during use. Flow went from 3/3.5 to 4.0. So it made some...

    Testing bleach concentration....

I know there was a post explaining how to test the concentration of bleach using a DPD kit, but I cant seem to find that post again. Anyone? Just picked up some 12.5% from my pool store and wanted to check to see what the actual concentration is. Thanks. -Chris

    Selecting Liquidator size

Yeah my experience was excellent. Didnt get ship notify within SECONDS but it did show up in a decent amount of time (I had ordered over memorial day weekend) and intact (which is unusual for DHL in my area!!) Very happy with the transaction and the product. Thanks to Dave for stocking it...

    Liquidator Install Help

I was having an issue with the check valve as well. I have plenty of flow and pressure (although I havent been able to check the differential, not enough tools :) ). My situation might be similar to yours.....my LQ is about 6' above water level. I stumbled on some data about the check...

    Selecting Liquidator size

I have the 8 gallon and I believe the dimensions are 15"x15"x29" (someone listed them here at one time, 29" is definitely the height, pretty sure the base is 15"x15"). I was thinking about getting the 4 gallon, but the price made it a no brainer (only 20 bux difference), figured Id just have...

    Liquidator check valve issue.....

Will try that today, it was raining this AM and I was in a rush so I just pulled the check valve out of the system to see what effect it had.

    Liquidator check valve issue.....

Just setup my LQ (as per the LQ install thread) but figured Id ask this question separately. I have a sort of unique install.........my filter is about 10' away and about 4' below where the LQ is installed (inside my shed). Without the inlet side check valve in line, I get a flow reading of...

Mounting a Separate Pump and Filter

It might happen. I wish them luck, because I curse the 20' I end up carrying it every year to startup the pool. If they really want it enough to carry it 150' to the road (assuming they want to stay hidden enough to NOT drive a car right onto my property), they can have it. Pump weighs a ton.

    Leaks at the Pump/Filter Fittings

Are you using the flex pipe that is smooth on the outside? It might not be correct for your application. Most pool stores will have the hose you need.......its basically short lengths of pool vacuum hose......ridges on the outside and a flat portion at each end where it connects to the pool...

    pool refurb questions

Try having someone cycle the pump (turn on, turn off, etc) and see if you see water squirting out of anywhere when the pump is turned off. It wont run out constantly after the pump is turned off, it will just squirt for a bit until the pressure is relieved then stop leaking. Could be a bunch...

The Top 10 Names for Your Pool...

"Hole in the ground that was cheaper to put a new liner in than to cave in and fill with dirt" :) (the pool was there when I bought the house, at first I wanted a house with a pool, then I didnt......then I ended up with a house that had one anyway)

    Leaks at the Pump/Filter Fittings

Its an AG pool, so you are referring to the ends where the hoses connect to the return jet (in the wall) and the skimmer inlet? As long as you have the right diameter hose, it shouldnt be hard to get them sealed. Might try double clamps, or (even better, and probably more important) BETTER...

    Liquidator installation thoughts and comments

Only thing I can think of is the fairly large height difference between the pool water, filter pad and LQ. The filter is about 2' above the pool water, the LQ is about 4' above that (then add the height of where the inlet line goes up to on the LQ). Wonder if I might get better results putting...

    Liquidator installation thoughts and comments

Ill try swapping the valves and see if it works better. I double checked the direction once I heard the buzzing, it is indeed correct (also verified by turning off the pump, and no water left the inlet hose). Wonder if the buzzing is the valve opening and closing very fast, which causes a drop...

    Liquidator installation thoughts and comments

Yeah once it was all together, it was kind of a "OH YEAH!" moment.......I realized why the check valve should be on the *other* hose. Dont know if you missed my edit, but I added the check valve. It buzzes while teh filter is running, and it seems to have lowered the flow a bit (from 3.0 or so...

    Liquidator installation thoughts and comments

Just wanted to stop in and say I installed the LQ without a problem today. Took maybe 30 minutes (would have been less without the 2 yr old wanting to "help daddy" :) ). I used the suction side drain plug on the pump for the outlet from the LQ, picked up a MPT to barb elbow at Lowes...fit...

Vaccumming clouds pool with dirt being vaccummed

Have you tried reserving vacuuming until your filter is on the verge of needing a backwash? Needing backwash means a dirty filter, and a dirty sand filter filters better than a clean one. It might catch this stuff before it makes it back out to the pool. -Chris

Mounting a Separate Pump and Filter

Ive never bolted down my pump, and its pretty powerful. The base that comes up the pump seems wide enough to offset any torquing that goes on (of which I feel very little, if any) I picked up a concrete slab at a local masonry supply house. They had a few different "stock" sizes, I think I...

    Cal-Hypo and Liquid Bleach

Are you reading the CC correctly? Ive never used strips so I dont know how they read FC vs CC. If you are, you need to bring the pool to shock levels of chlorine, pretty quickly. Even if CC was 1.0 instead of 2.0, you are still looking at *something* growing in the pool, so it needs to be...

    air in return lines

I had the same issue with my Northstar pump....the drain plug (on the suction side) was leaking ever so slightly. easiest way to see it was have someone cycle the pump on and off while you were looking around. A small amount of water would squirt out after the pump shut down, and if you turned...

Can anyone help me with the math please??

Yeah I figured as much....I actually could use a little CYA, but Id rather add straight CYA and stick with bleach. Liquidator on the way!!! Cant wait for that, my bleach life will be a lot easier!
