    Backwash hose

Home Depot sells hose made for sump pumps, it actually looks like small diameter (1.25" I think) pool vacuum hose. Can get a NPT to barb fitting (you may already have this) that screws into the waste port on your multiport valve, then attach the sump pump hose. You might even be able to get...

Another needed upgrade and why (pic)

For the sake of preventing vibrations breaking your jet and skimmer connections, I think Id put a Fernco (rubber coupling) fitting somewhere in each line. Other than that, nice job! Its amazing how good PVC work can make a pool look nicer :)

    Help! Crack in outlet fitting...

My dad and I fixed his above ground return once. Basically used a square piece of plastic to cover the return jet from the inside of the pool. One of us held the plastic while the other removed the jet from the outside (loosen the nut), then quickly removed the plastic, the inside-the-pool...

    pOOL STORAGE CONTAINERS

I have something similar by Suncast, minus the seat portion. Works nice........the only thing I dread is opening it after its been closed for a while, never know what might make a nest inside :) This year we've moved it to a spot under the steps to my patio, we slide it out whenever we need to...

Any tips on doing all the steps without destroying the pool chemical balance? TSP, muriatic acid, paint all close to the edge of the pool.......

    Hayward Northstar 1HP pump

For my Northstar, Ive been using some silicone o-ring lube that came with my Pentair trichlor feeder. After every season, I coat the o-ring (along with the inlet and outlet o-rings) in the lube and store in a large zip lock bag. Knock on wood, Ive been on the same o-ring for 4 years. I know...

    Painting concrete deck.....

Mine is a nice....concrete color :) Seriously though, its probably something that was colored in the concrete itself, as there is a slight tan tint to it. I need to patch some cracks first, and figured the patches would never match correctly and maybe painting would be an answer, but maybe...

    Painting concrete deck.....

I need to pressure wash my concrete pool deck, and it got me thinking I might want to paint it (better color, maybe even easier to clean). Has anyone done this? Note my pool itself is not concrete (vinyl IG), just the "deck" around it. Any product suggestions? Thanks. -Chris

12% chlorine prices around the country

$16.99+$6.00 refundable deposit for 5 gallon carboys of 12.5% at my local Branch Brook/Namco. So $3.40/gallon not including the deposit. Never thought about checking Job Lot (which is a lot closer to me, so maybe lugging the bottles around is worth it) I dont mind the Namco trips too much...

    Vac head for vinyl IG...

Hehe, I love the happy "hi" then the "you're an idiot" head bonk :) The ProVac 214 does actually have a brush on the front of it. But Ill go with the contour model just to be safe. I have a triangle head right now, but what a pain trying to get the last bit of startup algae where the walls...

    Vac head for vinyl IG...

Ive read the "I hate my vac head" thread, but wanted to ask one question that was never answered: Can we use the "commercial" type vac-heads on a vinyl liner pool? These are the flexible heads with multiple wheels on it. I need to buy a new vac head and for once want a decent one that will...

Is this a good price for 12.5% liquid chlorine?

Local to me, the 5 gallon carboy is 22.99 with the 6.00 deposit included (so, 16.99 for 5 gallons). Thats the best price Ive found for it, and its only slightly better than your price. Carrying 4-1 gallon bottles around is probably easier.......and its DEFINITELY easier to pour.

The pool store woman was ******....

Re: The pool store woman was ******.... Well, one good thing about using the 12.5% carboys from the pool store: now everyone thinks Im "normal" because Im using "pool store chlorine". Funny, when I was using 6% bleach, people said the pool wasnt safe because of all the chlorine in the bleach...

Cal hypo or 12% liquid shock for pool opening

intheswim still carries it, thats where i normally get it. But, like waterbear mentioned its becoming harder to find, so I except one season Ill wake up and see that intheswim even stopped carrying it. At which point Ill need to use the pool store carboys anyway, so I might as well start now :)

    Loop-loc cover removal

My pool is a "Grecian" shape, so you cant just grab the corners and fold backward. But I leave one side of the cover anchored in, release the other side and drag the cover over the pool folding back onto the anchored side. Prevents most of the "oh shoot it fell into the pool". Once folded...

So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

It was definitely ProTeam Supreme *PLUS*. But I realized I was borking the calculation for how many lbs. Was looking at 40 lbs of PTS+, when in reality I need at least 50 (22K gallon pool, no borate level to start). At that point PTS+ is more expensive on Ebay (of course). So it looks like...

So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

I checked out thechemistrystore. After shipping Im looking at about 110 or so for the boric acid required. I can get the required amount of ProTeam Supreme Plus off ebay for less than that even including shipping. Granted, its still more expensive than Borax + acid, but there is much less...

Cal hypo or 12% liquid shock for pool opening

I wasnt thinking a delay from cal hypo would be LONG, its just that inevitably some of it settles out (I dont pre-dissolve it, but I do come back every hour or so to brush it off the floor of the deep end). Its a vinyl pool so calcium isnt a problem. Ive used calhypo because of the fact the...

So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

I have to ask: I have a 22K gallon pool. Working out the numbers, I need about 17 or 18 boxes of Borax and 5.5 gallons of acid. Borax price around here is about 3 bux/box (some places have it for 2.XX, some places have it for 4.XX), I havent checked out the price of the acid yet. Assuming 18...

Cal hypo or 12% liquid shock for pool opening

Every season I use a few lbs of cal hypo (73%) to get the pool cleared up for spring opening (mesh safety cover, so we inevitably have some algae in the pool, and I like to make sure its dead before I start vacuuming to waste) I was wondering if Im any better or worse off just dumping in the...

    High pH causing a rash?

My son has recently come down with a rash that we cant seem to explain. Its not itchy (he rarely scratches it), and it doesnt seem to bother him......he is as happy as normal. We've tried several different "changes" to see if it helps, but the rash remains. Changed detergents and re-washed...

    Liquidator "WS" Poll

When I used 6%, it was WalMart Ultra Since I switched to 12%, its been Blue Shield liquid chlorine in the 5 gallon jugs.

    Liquidator "WS" Poll

Id be interested in how to keep the tubing clear........mine was milky after only a weeks worth of use, at the time I was using 6%. ive since "upgraded" to 12%. Something of note: I didnt see a massive increase in the amount of FC in my pool with the increase to 12% concentration. Im not sure...

    Liquidator "WS" Poll

can we define "have WS"? My tubes are milky white, but it doesnt seem to be affecting flow to/from the LQ. The LQ itself doesnt have any WS in it (that I can see). Not sure if thats a "dont have WS" or not. -Chris

Preventing Liquidator’s white deposit from the horse’s mouth

Took a closer look at my LQ, and all I see is a little white buildup in the funnel area. No buildup on anything else that is inside the LQ (I didnt remove the floats completely, but I didnt see any buildup on the outside of the "hinge" area, so Im assuming the valves are clear? Is that a good...

Preventing Liquidator’s white deposit from the horse’s mouth

FWIW, Ive had my LQ running for a little over a month and dont see any WS. Every time Ive checked everything (except the tubing, see below) looks like the day it was installed. CYA is well below 60 (try 20, MAYBE 30). pH actually rose a little since Ive installed the LQ......its around 7.5...

    Might remove the Liquidator

Re: Liquidator removal help I edited my post, mcmaster has one (McMaster has EVERYTHING! I should have known :) ). Might be worth a shot, its around the same price as the small valves from HD, but the NPT to barb adapters are extra. Still should be under 15 bux though.

    Might remove the Liquidator

Re: Liquidator removal help I wonder if 2 valves inline might help? One right after the inlet float of the LQ, and one closer to the pump? Or maybe one on the inlet and one on the OUTLET to slow down flow. This almost seems like a good spot for a *gate* valve, so you can just screw or...

    Might remove the Liquidator

Re: Liquidator removal help With such a massive increase in flow (1.5 ppm to 14.0 ppm in 3 hours), Im wondering if Hasa is smarter than we think and purposely included a lower flow control valve. For example, if I wanted to introduce 13 ppm into my pool (22000 gallons) I need to add almost 5...

    Liquidator Problem

I noticed the "white stuff" rising to the top when I recently started using the 5 gallon jugs from the pool store. I was probably pouring too fast, but with 5 gallons of bleach in your arms you dont have much choice!! Thinking about it now, I might snag one of the caps that came with the jugs...
