How I spent my Summer Vacation

Pics were taken at Happy Acres Kampground (http://www.happyacres.com/) in Bristol, Wisconsin. The reason we switched sites was because the people we camp with bought a TT so we can't camp on our old favorite site. Adam

    Possible solar plumbing problem?

With the solar off (and let me know if I'm correct) the water flows out of the filter, through the check valve, through the ball valve, then continues back to the pool. Before the solar did the water just flow out of the filter, through the pipe and to the pool, with no valves or check valves...

    BBB With Only Weekly Testing?

You say you don't have an SWG, but would you consider installing one? That would make taking care of the pool much easier. Once you got all your numbers in line it could keep your pool pretty much perfect with only weekly testing and the occasional muriatic acid edition. This would also allow...

    (Re) Training the dog...

"Leave it" has to be the most useful command we've ever taught uur dog BY FAR. It's probably the most used to, but it works for everything from food to the pool to other dogs/people. Adam

How I spent my Summer Vacation

Looks like a great time! Beautiful weather and plenty of fun activities to keep everyone busy. I LOVE camping! Unfortunately we only go 3-4 times a year. :? Here's a couple of shots of our last camping trip. Went from this: :-D (We tried a new site, didn't like it) To this: River that...

So, my cousin has a 55,000 gallon pool.

I did a quick google search and the biggest I can find is a 45' x 18' x 52" deep oval pool. Then I thought of something... The pool could have a deep end. Then I found the # of gallons and just the pool is about 23,000 so the deep end would have to be like, another pool under that one...

    Sand Filters. Is Larger better?

Yes, use #20 Silica sand, a.k.a. Pool Filter Sand(if you buy it at the pool store). Do not use playground sand! :hammer: Adam

    Sand Filters. Is Larger better?

I'd use the larger filter. The more filtration area the better. I don't think you really have to worry about the filter being to big unless the filter and pump are grossly oversized/undersized, which yours won't be. Adam

    Concrete pool up north

Sounds like a plan to me! :-D The fan and horn sound like great ideas to make sure the equipment doesn't get destroyed. What's a protective earth switch? Is that like a GFCI switch? Can't wait to see the next set of pics. :-D Adam

Opinions on Hayward micro star clear pump/filter system?

I don't know if you bought one yet, but here's the same thing your looking at(I think) on eBay for a lot less money. Pump on eBay Adam

    Inflatable Pool

Yes, you can add chlorine to that size pool, just a very small amount, like a hot tub. You will probably still have to change the water, maybe every week or two because you have no way to filter it. Adam

Simplifying BBB for very small pools (e.g. Intex)

Just imagine how many less "My pool is a green swamp with a CYA of 200" posts we'd get if every pool sold came with one of those. :-D Price of bleach might go up a bit with all the BBB'ers though. Adam

    New Pressure gauge, reading incorrectly??

All sounds pretty normal to me. I only have a 1 HP pump, but probably a smaller filter to, and my gauge reads 13 without solar and 14-15 with it. By the time the gauge rises 1 psi, my flow will have diminished greatly. So I just backwash based on flow from the return. Oh yeah, the pressure...

Oops! I did it again.......Solar overload

Wanna trade water? Mine was 80 yesterday, but I took the cover off so the pool could breath... Probably in the low 70's now. This summer has been pretty pathetic... The pool has only been warm enough to swim twice! And that's with a solar cover I've used religously. The problem is clouds...

New liner & fresh water being put in tomorrow! Now what?!

Don't worry, you should be alright. :-D I believe the main reason PH is adjusted first is because if it's way out of whack, it will cause damage long before not having any CYA. Adam

    DIY Heater tuning/setup

How many GPM does your pump put out total? I'd imagine with a smaller pump like that, and all those parallel coils, you should be able to divert the full flow through the panels. The air bubbles are to be expected as the water fills the tubes and empties them of air. These should go away after...

    Cleaning Pool Without Vacuum Attachment

Yep, that's how I vacuum out spa. In the pool often we'll make a whirlpool, which consentrates all the junk in the middle, then just use the hose to vac it up. Much quicker than vac.ing the whole pool. Adam

    Pump: Day or night?

If you can, try to break it up, maybe 6 hrs during the day and 6 at night. This way doesn't let the water sit stagnent for so long and thus less chance of algae and FC "dead spots". Adam

My "Giant Pond" is Almost a Real Pool! And Some Questions...

Not 100% sure about this because I don't have your test, but a CH level of 30 sounds WAYYY low. 300 sounds more realistic. The TA level of 70 does sound about right. You don't need to raise that up to 100 BTW, it should be fine at 70. Good luck with the party! Adam

    DIY Solar Control

What about this one? Here The thing I'm worried about is the temp. difference. It says it turns on when the panels are 10* above, and off when panels reach 3* above pool/spa water temp. Will the control still control black mat panels with these settings? Adam

    New Pool

Another thing to look into if you're not going to be there often and you go with the SWG is an Acid Feed system. This will ensure your PH stays in check when you're not there to check it. Adam

    DIY Solar Control

Anyone think this could work? Mainly I'm trying to find a cheap way to control my solar heater. Get a 1.5" Sprinker valve that runs on 24vdc, then connect that to a cheap furnace(or other kind if it will work better) thermostat. Find out how the thermostat senses temp and move it up by the...

Solar Heater Controller using solenoid valve??

I'm not sure, but I've thought if using one of these myself. Only thing holding me back is the innability to find a 1.5" or 2" valve locally. Have you found one? Adam

    Insane Question

Maybe you should just tell her the problem is "unfixable"(even though you'll have fixed it) and the pool will never be above 90 because the short cycling will damage the heater. Just don't let her mess with the control and find out it works or :whip: **Disclaimer, I will not be held...
