Newbie who started the SLAM this morning

$800 to fill ours here in centra NY. Softened water should be fine for most people if only topping off a few thousand gallons

    Liquid + Solid chlorine strategy

All great advice from more experienced people than me. I would go ahead and SLAM for sure due to the OP's comment re algae.

    I drifted from TFP protocols

Thanks all. Back to my beloved 10% and nothing more. I "knew" my pool very well and never needed anything until I added that garbage! and now I have ten pounds of CYA for a few years as needed.

    I drifted from TFP protocols

I dissolved 10 scoops in half gallon of water. About 9-9.25 scoops dissolved. Poured only the liquid in. pH rose from 7.0 to 7.4

    I drifted from TFP protocols

Need help. I hate math. I used the calculator and guess I should've weighed it instead of using the scoop. It came with a 60cc scoop. But how do you convert that so it works with the calculator?v

    I drifted from TFP protocols

Just to clarify, I used 4 pounds over a week of the dichlor bioguard Smart Shock simply since I had it laying around and I needed to raise CYA I still use my liquid bleach.

    I drifted from TFP protocols

Because my TA and ph are both lower than they have ever been. Figured i I needed to take action. Sounds like I should just use it and enjoy it. and we survived the opening year with full bioguard system. Never had an issue with staining. In a vinyl ABGP what will copper stain? other than...

    I drifted from TFP protocols

Needed to raise my CYA so instead of buying it, I used the Bioguard shock I had. Dichlor and of course copper. Anyway my TA has always been 120-140 and pH stable. Today im at TA 70 pH 7.0 it was 7.4 a few days ago. CYA 30 (9( course the CYA showed up yesterday and I'm not adding any) I...

How often do you test your water?

Exaxtly what happened to me. Got lazy on bleaching since we weren't using. Had an algae set in but only had to SLAM one day. Caught it just in time.

    Chlorine Drop Test

How's it going? Once you get balanced and know your pool it will be easy. I had a quart a day or half gallon every other day to mine generally.

    Bioguard to bleach and back

Bought the CYA from Amazon as suggested by another member. No more copper for me. Polyquat after shock levels with bleach before closing. Sad, our Walmart is already putting all summer stuff on clearance.

    Bioguard to bleach and back

Some days I'm surprised we made it through a season of Bioguard.

    Bioguard to bleach and back

I'm sure you're right. Does your dichlor contain the copper too? could be the plastic bags being stored in the hot garage. We both noticed the smell.

    Bioguard to bleach and back

Discovered TFP last year and love it. Everyone comments on our water. The feel. Smell or lack of. The clarity. "What do you use?" bleach. "No way." Needed to raise CYA and I had some bags of Bioguard Smart Shock, dichlor. Pound yesterday and pound today. Notice the smell. Yuck. Letting it...

    Chlorine Drop Test

Yes that's what you should do. That quantity makes no sense unless you didn't update the quantity of water your pool contains. - - - Updated - - - Oops. What Dean said

    Algae. Maybe.

Thanks. The bags of dichlor (bioguard smart shock) are coming in handy. Appears 1# raises my FC 2.5. And last CYA test was a different bottle of reagent but more importantly as you pointed out, about a 20° difference in water temperature.

    Algae. Maybe.

There is no way a couple inches of rain and sun drop my CYA in half. Is there?
  22. doc8404

    Algae. Maybe.

I guess it could also be the new reagent I received today. Sucks I ran out!
  23. doc8404

    Algae. Maybe.

Looks like the rain dropped my CYA to less than 20. Guess that's why that one sunny day and 2-3 days of not testing or treating let that algae grow. We must've caught it just in time because we had no issues after one overnight slam. I have bags of Dichlor and tabs of TriChlor. Time to throw...

    Algae. Maybe.

I feel I was very accurate in last night and testing this morning. Can you have the free chlorine stay the same but combined chloramines drop? Will certainly keep a very close eye on it. I tested again this morning. Is this even possible? FC 5.5 CC 0.0

    Algae. Maybe.

We did swim in the lake today and then straight in the pool 2 hours before testing. Not something we usually do. Thanks. I will tell my wife you agree with me so she can go to bed :)

    Algae. Maybe.

Wasn't monitoring like I did last year and like I need to be. Came home the other day and appeared to have spots of algae or dirt all over bottom. Water clear as could be. I brushed it up and since it appeared to become a cloud, and my wife swearing it was greenish, I figured I would slam...

We haven't taken the cover off, don't want the sun beating down on that (hopefully) clear water. Just wondering if any changes in the data below is "normal" or my error. Closing, 10/15/16 pH 7.5 FC 9.5 / 14 after adding 363 oz of bleach. Also added 32oz of Polyquat CC 0.0 TA 40 CYA 50-60...
