    Help in locating a leak

Hm. I haven't been using the pool the last few weeks, it's set to be closed end of the month, so I shut the skimmer suction off and haven't bothered keeping the water level up. Result is that after a week or so, the water level stops dropping at the skimmer mouth, and when I look inside the...

    Help in locating a leak

I have a bit of a leak and wanted to see if anyone has any bright ideas I haven't considered. Water level continues to drop to about an inch up the mouth of the skimmer. It stabilizes there - I've closed the suction to the skimmer and stopped topping off the water, only drawing from the main...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

Finished this up yesterday afternoon. Packaging is pretty tight even just to get unions in there was a puzzle. Couple minor leaks I might try leak b gone or similar, or just rebuild a few sections in the winter. Suction port on the filter valve is the worst drip, even though I’m pretty sure I...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

Pump is expected to arrive tomorrow, fingers crossed. Started to disassemble, the suction side union came off easily enough. I plan on installing a female threaded adapter, gluing a length of pipe to that and then coupling it onto the cpvc tailpiece of the pump union. I’m wondering if I should...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

Yea I’m leaning towards the complete replacement. For such a thing as a pool, I’m not trying to be penny wise and pound foolish. By the same token I think I can feel comfortable enough springing for the known quantity of the Hayward and the luxury of having buttons for it where I want them. It’s...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

Current setup is 240v so that’s ok. You’re right, I should probably just KISS. If I use my existing timer, when it powers up the motor do you know whether I could still make some use of the custom programming, ie change the default speed/duration? I will have to read up on that. EDIT - sounds...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

I’m really just stuck between: Hayward MaxFlo VS 1.65hp - known quantity of the brand - control panel can be mounted on the wall, which is very enticing given the position of my pump inside a shed - $1k after rebate Harris 72522 - unknown brand - similar features otherwise - $550 Century...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

I’m interpreting the condition of the pump shaft as “need a new motor” at minimum. Maybe the threads could be cleaned up? But the shaft squeaks, it’s bearing is shot for sure. I should probably take this “opportunity” to upgrade… to the century / Vgreen VS retrofit: Hayward MaxFlo VS Motor...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

I had the same thought, but checked it and I can only close/throttle one side (skimmer) or the other (drain) - I can’t move the valve handle to where “closed” is on the pump side.

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

Yes. I'm going to disassemble and look at that option depending on what I find. I closed it in preparation for servicing / removing the pump, don't worry it was open prior to this.

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

Thanks. Looks like availability from the online stores gives me a few options, and I also just discovered that I could consider a Hayward MaxFlo VS motor upgrade from INYO for a little more than a Harris complete pump, but less than a complete Hayward VS pump assembly. I'm going to remove the...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

I do get a little confused on the pump sizing calculation and output data from the pumps themselves... if I'm reading it right, if my system has 30 ft of head then I won't get any flow at speeds 1 and 2, only at 3 and 4. Maybe that's fine, but is that right? And at speed 4 the GPM is higher than...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

Thanks @Elle Oh that does put me at some ease. The next few days through the weekend, as you know, are looking to be prime pool weather here in PA! So I can only hope that the water remains clear/safe for use despite not having filtration. I will continue to follow the same regimen and put my...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

Any decent writeups out there for doing this job? Think it's surely repairable? My fear is that I don't order the pump and then disassemble the pump only to have a couple day outage turn into a week+ outage.

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

Thanks, I will do that. I think in the interest of time and keeping cost low I’m leaning towards doing the work myself, and to keep it simple you’re right I should just get a new pump/motor assembly. I’ll have to take some liberties with the calculations, I don’t know exactly how the plumbing...

Pump died, what’s my fastest route to get water filtering again?

My pump is clearly toast - it spins up but no pressure is made, and it takes several seconds to coast to a stop. Some sort of internal failure. I posted not long ago that it ran after the output hose burst, so that surely accelerated the failure and I should have assumed I had less time to act...

Pump ran without flow for hours, with filter set to "closed"

Repairs have been made, the pump is back running. Tech replaced the hose with solid PVC. No unions, so I foresee a replacement later on maybe this fall/winter. But for now I'm up and running. Filter pressure is up about 10 psi compared with prior running, and the pump sounds to my ears a bit...

Pump ran without flow for hours, with filter set to "closed"

So for whatever reason, the pump outlet line is not a pipe but really a hose, like in this arrangement: I assumed that the previous owner chose this for "visibility" of the flow... but now as I panic-search for equipment I am seeing some setups looking like that. I didn't get eyes on the...

Pump ran without flow for hours, with filter set to "closed"

My pool technician, perhaps no longer, replaced a valve yesterday morning. He set the multiport valve to "closed" for the work, I assume (still waiting for his callback currently). It appears that he left the valve "closed" and left. My timer runs the pump 3 times daily for 3 hours each time...

    Storing Test Kit Outdoors?

Is it a terrible idea to store the TF-100 out in my shed or deck box? I don’t have a great spot for it in the house currently. Is the temperature a concern, or am I okay and it’s mainly a priority to keep it out of the sun.

Here was Saturday morning after taking the cover off. I think it’s still progressing.
