The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Ok, so it's looking like between 20 and 30 CYA and 11fc. I'm thinking another lb of stabilizer? - - - Updated - - - Oh, I also wanted to say how amazing the water is starting to look. It's starting to look like something I wouldn't mind swimming in! Pretty amazing.

Ooh, didn't think of that. I'll try it!

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Anyone mind linking me to a scale they use?

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Excellent! That's what I did. It's all starting to make sense. Good tip! I will do that! Yup, one lb (or at least as far as I could eyeball) in the sock and enough bleach to cover the CYA spread. We will see what we have when I get home in about four hours.

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

No I understand how you're doing it, but what I'm asking is - I just put one lb of stabilizer in my pool. Let's say that brings my CYA up to 30. The chart says that to slam at a CYA of 30, you need an FC of 12. If I'm at 10.5, then I'm not doing any slamming. So my question is, now that I've...

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

But the numbers I worked up gives me 2.6lbs. You want me to do one lb correct? - - - Updated - - - So 10.5 FC will be enough to slam even with the increased CYA I'll have after adding stabilizer?

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Yup, 10.5. Still good to go on 1lb of stabilizer? If in adding stabilizer, do I also need to add chlorine? BTW, I have no way to measure 1lb. I'll be guessing. Do you guys use scales?

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Ok, if I'm at 0 and want to shoot for 30 CYA, then I want 42 ounces of stabilizer which converts to 2.62lbs. Correct? - - - Updated - - - Didn't check yet. Should I do that first?

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Sun finally came out and I was able to do a CYA test. Despite some haziness, I was able to see he dot even when the tube was filled completely. So I'm going to shoot for 30 CYA. Let's see what my math says. - - - Updated - - - I know, but: A: I have this thing about getting into gross water...

Tried. Couldn't see the bottom even with only a foot of water.

I do, and that's pretty much what I've been doing, but I'm still doing it blind.

I guess I could always *gulp* get in the water with goggles and see what's doing at the bottom...

No idea. Too murky to see to the bottom. I'm going to do some vacuuming tonight.

This isn't looking good. No sun to be seen on this day. Hopefully the sky clears in the next hour or so.

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Yup. It was in pretty nasty shape too. Before this I have never owned a pool in any fashion.

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Still 10.5 this morning. Rained pretty hard too. I think I'll add just a wee bit of bleach to make sure it stays over 10 while I'm at work.

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

FC - 10.5 as I'm going to bed. Guess I'll leave that as is then. Tomorrow I'll get a good CYA reading and see what's what.

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Yeah, it's not so much leaves as it is pine cones and needles. But I have to say, that leaf thing was AMAZING! I had skimmed probably 10lbs of the stuff and thought I was done. It took me a week to get that much. Decided to try the leaf thing and it gave me this. Thats about another 10lbs in...

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Ahhhh, I get it. More won't help, but as long as I'm hitting 10, I should be good. Cool! I'll add bleach now. And test again before bed.

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Yeah, I'll test for CYA again tomorrow, but for now, I'll shoot for a FC of 10 for while I'm at work. Tomorrow I'll do the math and add more stabilizer so I get to 30 (if I am indeed at 20). Oh, one more question, when I add bleach, should I shoot for exactly the amount I want or should I go...
  23. G

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Nope! Only what was there in the water left over. - - - Updated - - - Shock FC would be 10. So if I want to get to 10 and if I'm at 6.5 then I need to add 54 ounces of bleach. Correct?

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

I like that idea. Will definitely do. Ok, so: CL - 5 BR - 10 ph - 7.2 alk - 90 FC - 6.5 CC - 1 TC - 7.5 CYA - 20...or less? Didnt do calcium hardness because I don't have a masonry pool, and the results were low on the tap water test, but if you guys think I should do it, I can. Viewing...

Poo math?! Ack! I know my water is gross, but come on. It's not that bad. I should know, I drank some.

The Return of the Pool That Just Won't Die

Roger that. Thanks everyone. My only concern is that there is no sun right now...completely overcast. So I can't test CYA if I understand correctly. Without knowing CYA, can I still determine how much bleach to put in?
