My first attempt at a slam

I hope not, unless that pool looks much, much clearer in person than it does in that picture!!! It is not safe for anyone to swim unless you can CLEARLY see the bottom of the deep end!! Post a picture of the deep end so we can see the main drain.

Chlorine can't seem to get from salt cell to pool

Because knowing your salt level is also important when you have a SWG, order a Taylor K-1766 Salt Test too and post that result. This test must be ordered separately since it's not included in the test kits referenced above.

    Current Water Analysis Report

Great numbers! TC is correct FC + CC =TC How did you add the stabilizer? When did you last add liquid chlorine? We need to figure out if your SWG is working or not.

My first attempt at a slam

He is a tenant, it was noted in another thread that when the filter went out, the landlord replaced it with an undersized filter. - - - Updated - - - Looking better, just keep at it!

    Sun Shelf/Baha Shelf

All three above have good points. :lovetfp: Where else are you going to get such great advice!
  8. Winnie-the-Pool

    Current Water Analysis Report

Do NOT ADD anything to your pool except liquid chlorine as above. Test your chlorine level DAILY until you get a better test kit and the salinity test kit that Marty referred to above. If your chlorine is low, indicating that your SWG is not working, add liquid chlorine as you did before...

Please comment on this equipment list

This is worthless and sometimes ends up costing the new pool owner. :study: Study :study: Study :study: Study this site and you will be ready to perform your own start-up. What is the finish? Plaster, pebble, vinyl?

Help Finding the FC Eating Monster

First of all, ADMIRABLE JOB :goodjob: on the record keeping and charts! Since there seems to perhaps be a correlation with the rain, I wonder if something is happening in the environment that causes a buildup on the screen enclosure. Then the rain washes it suddenly into the pool at a rate...

    Current Water Analysis Report

No more wasting time on pool store testing, right? Well maybe just once after you get your test kit so you can see for yourself how far off their test results are compared to yours. :poke: Salt, CYA and chlorine are reduced whenever you drain and replace water. Vacuuming to waste drains much...

Water Lab Results / Newbie Questions!

Let's get your figures straight, first pool volume so that your dosing is more accurate, your pool is 16x32 how deep is it? At a 4' depth, your volume would be 15300 gallons. Before you can tweak the settings on your SWG to dispense the proper amount of chlorine, you need to get your CYA level...

    Skimmers and Return locations

I have a return in my vinyl over steel steps (though my steps are in the center of one of the short walls). While mine hasn't leaked (I haven't owned this house long, but the Pool Guy that was taking care of it when we bought it has been very honest about other issues with the pool and he took...

    What am I doing wrong?!?!?!

Not sure the clarifier was a good idea. The fact that you overdosed and got such dramatic results tells me some of your numbers are off somewhere and I think maybe multiple things contributed. When I calculate your pool volume I get 17200 gallons, it only makes about a 7.5% difference in...

    Diatomaceous Earth in Canada

I imagine if it's that difficult to find it's possibly banned there. There was a recent thread here from a poster in France and they said it was banned in that country. If you are fighting algae, I guess you could always allow your filter pressure to get slightly higher than normal before...

    Skimmers and Return locations

I like the skimmers on opposite walls, upper left, lower right but I would put each one closer to center, maybe not quite 1/3 of the way down each long wall. I would place the returns as follows for a good clockwise circulation that will flow past the skimmers well: 1 Far right of top long...

    Current Water Analysis Report

This is a perfect example as to why we don't rely on pool store testing. These results when compared to your previous from just 2 days ago show a drop in CYA, yet an increase in salt which I seriously doubt could have happened unless you partially drained your pool, refilled and added salt...

    Skimmers and Return locations

Just curious, when you say there will be 6' to the right of the step, does that mean the shallow end will be larger or will that put the transition incline in front of the steps?

New here, dumping pool store advice, attempting to restore clear blue water - HELP!

Hey Mary  great to see you back!!! I wondered what happened with your pool. YAY!! :goodjob: for perseverance, unfortunately many give up too soon and end up in a vicious cycle. You're in good hands with Marty, listen to his advice and he'll keep you on the right track.
  24. Winnie-the-Pool

    Austin's Newest Swimming Hole

I don't think you should add any chlorine tonight because you are only .5ppm below the minimum from what the PB added and the Start-Up Procedure (SUP) says not to add chlorine for the first 48 hours, so if that becomes an issue later the PB owns it. Your CYA isn't completely in the pool yet, but...

    Austin's Newest Swimming Hole

You might check out this thread starting at this point since they just finished filling yesterday and there is some good advice there. There seems to always be this warranty issue with who performs start-up. That being said, you now know that your PB is NOT planning on following that procedure...
