New pool CYA - Does my strategy sound OK?

Thanks for all the replies. Here's what I know now: - It's filling a LOT faster than I thought. As of this morning, I was a little over halfway full. Actually shocked the pool guy a little. He was running a vacuum pump inside the liner to get out any wrinkles, etc. while we filled. It was a...

New pool CYA - Does my strategy sound OK?

UPDATE - just got pics from home. They are filling as we speak. Should I go ahead and get some level of bleach in it? I'm just not sure how much to put in because it is not completely full yet - - - Updated - - - As far as the cleanliness of the water, I have not tested yet. It has been...

New pool CYA - Does my strategy sound OK?

One of the guys I talked to said to target about 3 ppm FC with liquid bleach while I getting the SWG up and running and adding the cya, but wasn't clear on when to start adding the bleach. I guess I could get it about 1/3 full by eyeball and just start adding bleach based on that? I'm assuming...

New pool CYA - Does my strategy sound OK?

Thanks for the response. Yes. We'll be using a garden hose. I figure 2-3 days to fill (I haven't checked the pressure coming off this hose yet since it's a new faucet on the well). I like the idea of doing 6# all at once. I was just trying to find a reasonable step up. But if we're not swimming...

New pool CYA - Does my strategy sound OK?

They are putting the finishing touches on our pool today and beginning to fill. We're putting in 100% well water from our irrigation well (I should be able to get some tests done on the water tonight since we just had the tap put on it earlier today). I have a SWG and am already planning on...

Starting off right - New inground

Cool. One other thing. Why did you recommend 2 ppm of chlorine as a starting point with no CYA. Wouldn't I need to go higher since there is no CYA to protect the chlorine? Or were you saying, add 2 ppm, then kick on the SWG and let it make up for the rest?

Starting off right - New inground

That's the part that has confused me as I read the various posts and pool school. So day 1 I add 2 ppm of FC and the CYA. From what I have read, the CYA can take several days to dissolve. So let's say day 1 I put in 2 ppm of FC and enough CYA in a sock to target a CYA of 70. For a SWG, the chart...

Starting off right - New inground

Thanks Jason. So on #1, I am OK to get it full and then just maintain 2 ppm of FC while getting the CYA dissolved and the salt in the water? I was concerned that if I didn't hit it immediately with bleach I was at risk of an algae outbreak. <edited because I can't spell worth a darn>

Starting off right - New inground

I've been lurking in the just getting started section for a few days. I am (hopefully) a few days away from filling my new in-ground pool. Construction is chugging along. The remaining big items are concrete decking, the liner, hooking up the equipment and filling. Particulars on my new system...

    tF100 Options?

Cool. One more followup. I am installing a SWG and eventually plan to add borates to the water. Will the standard salt strips and the borate test strips be sufficient to keep track of those?

    tF100 Options?

Thanks Richard. Does the TF-100 come with a vial for test water, or is that something I would need to order separately?

    tF100 Options?

Buying my first TF-100 today for a new pool currently under construction. I am looking at adding the XL option. I'm kind of a nerd and see a lot of unnecessary extra testing while I am getting my bearings. I can't tell by looking at the site which of the reagents are increased with the XL...

Thanks for the site - New Owner

New member. I am sure I will be burning up the forum in short order. We're in the process of having a pool built now (I have all the particulars I know currently in my sig already). I'm not a total do-it-yourselfer when it comes to mechanical things. But I do homebrew, which if you're doing it...
