Converting Booster Cleaner outake to suction intake

1 1/2 pump side, I need to check under the cover for the outlet size but I bet it's plumbed 1 1/2 to the sidewall. I'm assuming that's the minimum for the suction. So I'm not sure the diverter would do it.... (attempt at old school ANSI diagram coming up) Skimmer_low_end...

Converting Booster Cleaner outake to suction intake

There used to be a Polaris (I think) in my inground pool. The booster pump was dead and has been removed and the Polaris was never seen by me. I've capped it off but I am thinking of a pool cleaner now. To buy a new booster and cleaner is a bit out of my price range, but I was going to look...

    TA thoughts

I decided to try a local pool store instead of Leslie's. I walked in, knew what I wanted (in this case, muriatic acid, Cyanuric Acid and DE). I asked to see the concentration of the Muriatic acid and the guy said "how do you know all this stuff?". I responded troublefreepool.com and another...

    Pool Liner Replacement - inground

How many of you have replaced the pool liner yourself? I have a 20x40 with covered stairs and I'm debating the professional versus DIY method. Roughly I can find a liner for 1200 versus paying a pro 3200. My issue is also time, I'd have to use vacation days to do this (I'm a father of 4...

Need To Interview Pool Owner For Article On DIY Maintenance

Re: Need To Interview Pool Owner For Article On DIY Maintena 1 Obviously to save money but it's also good to know you're not getting ripped off when you need help. You obviously need time to do things but when you don't have time, the invest provides a great way to judge professionals...

opened to swamp confused by chlorine readings

I'm seeing the same thing but my theory is CYA. I'm SWG thought so my CYA is 70-80 range (which means more chlorine). I just opened today and it's a green swamp (in ground 22k gallon pool). I just put in a ton of chlorine but I have to eyeball the FC since my FAS kit is in the mail. Are you...

    Pump output leaking...what the heck...

So far so good!!! I am surprised that it worked. If it does leak at this point I'm sure caulk will fix it. I turned the threaded part tight though

    Pump output leaking...what the heck...

Going to use Recorseal T plus 2 after reading another post about 5 softening the threads..the plumber in the post said apply Recotrseal Tplus2 thin, wrap tape, apply another coat.

    Pump output leaking...what the heck...

Fix it didn't fix it. Here's my plan. remove the fix it which is gonna suck but hopefully it didn't bond to well and will slide off the top. I'm going to screw in the thread using RectorSeal 5 (instead of T plus 2) 5 will harden a bit so that should help. I plan to overtighten the threads to...

    Pump output leaking...what the heck...

I picked up an Oatey Fix It stick at Lowes. I'm going to give it a try. Sounds like it'll probably be just what I need especially if the leak is coming not from the thread but just to the side of it (or if it is the thread!). Tom

    Pump output leaking...what the heck...

Still leaks :( I must not have gotten the silicone set. Will try again but failing that it'll be glue time. I'll use a threaded nipple or compression union I guess.

    Pump output leaking...what the heck...

Arggg. Still leaking i wonder if water is getting out between the housing and the female threads. Should I use silicone caulk at this point or glue the outside with PVC glue?

    Pump output leaking...what the heck...

Will try this tomorrow. By neck, you mean the PVC right? I bought a strap wrench and found some T plus 2 dope I can use. Will post the results tomorrow. Tom

    Pump output leaking...what the heck...

I have installed a new pump and even valve, I have had to screw in the connections much tighter than I thought. The one that appears to leak is the one from the top of the pump to the valve. I have a PentAir WhisperFlo 1 1/2HP (up-rated) dual speed pump and DE filter. The pipes are 1 1/2 in...

Emerson 1 1/2 HP pump making noise...replace motor or pump?

Re: Emerson 1 1/2 HP pump making noise...replace motor or pu I did without much luck. I decided to get a 2-speed WhisperFlo which should arrive next week. This leaves me with 2 interesting questions 1) How long can my pool go without a pump/filter? 2) Since I'm going to replace it, I'm...

Emerson 1 1/2 HP pump making noise...replace motor or pump?

Re: Emerson 1 1/2 HP pump making noise...replace motor or pu I went out this morning, it sounds REALLY bad, I turned it off, I don't want something breaking. It's making loud humming almost screeching sound and vibrating a little. Seems like bearings. I'm not sure how long my pool will go...

Emerson 1 1/2 HP pump making noise...replace motor or pump?

Re: Emerson 1 1/2 HP pump making noise...replace motor or pu I'm not sure honestly. I don't think I need a 1 1/2 HP pump on this pool really seems like over kill. I think it's about 25,000 gallons, two skimmers two side returns and main drain, that's it. From what I read, maybe a WhisperFlo...

Emerson 1 1/2 HP pump making noise...replace motor or pump?

Re: Emerson 1 1/2 HP pump making noise...replace motor or pu I've been researching for the last hour and think you're right. Do I need to replace bearings or are they part of the motor? Seems like a good time to replace if they are not. I'm looking here at the motors and the pricing seems...

Emerson 1 1/2 HP pump making noise...replace motor or pump?

My Emerson 1 1/2 HP is making noise. Sounds like someone else's issue and the research I've done is either bearings or something is going. In any case. I think I can replace the motor for $200-$300 if I hunt for a good price. However, it cost a TON to run last year (first year we've owned...

Heat Pump broken and just sits there

Nope I wasn't, it looks to be the heat exchanger and I called AquaCal support to see what they would say (he said heat exchanger and I remember a pool guy looking and saying the same). He also said it's a $1500 repair but that's not too bad considering new pumps are 3-4K! I think I'm going to...

Heat Pump broken and just sits there

I bought a house and the pool is great but there is a AquaCal big sqaure black heat pump that looks like on the inside the compressor is cracked (I guess it froze and broke)? Anyway, has anyone had these repaired? If not have you removed it and with what? The thing is huge! Any ideas would be...

    horse flies and wasps

I usually use cypermethrin and this will work GREAT for wasps. Don't use knock-down spray but order the cypermethrin powder and mix 2 spoons with 1 gallon in a pump sprayer. Cypermethrin can actually be used indoors but it will make you sneeze if you breathe it in. It will leave a very fine...
