    Need Encouragement!

It's coming along, although slower than it's ever been before. It still has a greenish yellow cast, but I can just see the bottom on the deep end at 8.5 ft. A couple of weeks more and it might be crystal clear again.

Water Out of the Discharge When Flitering

From what I've been reading, they go bad, usually having to be replaced once a year. Guess I've been blessed to have this one 3 years. BTW, the squirrels love to get on top of the filter and gnaw on the edges of the selector valve. I've got chew marks all around the top of this thing.

Water Out of the Discharge When Flitering

Over the past two days, I have noticed a significant drop in the water level. I filled it overnight twice and each afternoon my skimmer was sucking air. I added about 4 inches last night and during the night it occurred to me to check the discharge pipe. It runs the width of the backyard and...

    Why Can't I Find What I Need?

I bought a Hayward leaf canister, model 560, to put in-line with my pool cleaner and vacuum. It's a petty simple construction. The inflow has a female port and the outflow has a male connector. If I connect it t my vacuum, which has a male connector on it, it will fall off if it gets bumped by...

    Need Encouragement!

So here's the deal. Last fall, under protest, I left the cover off the pool as the wife wanted to keep the pool open all winter so that it would be pretty for Christmas parties and such. I complied (happy wife, happy life!) until I had a major medical issue that prevented me from keeping it...

    Impressed with stabilzer!

This is my second full year with our pool. Last year we had so much rainfall, we only got to use the pool maybe 10 times. It was so much rain that I was constantly having to draw down the level so that it wouldn't overflow when I was not at home. As a consequence, I never could get the CYA much...

Green Pool, NOT ALEGAE and NOT COPPER? Really need help from you pro's!

For what it's worth, this year when I was opening my pool, my water had a green tint for several days, even though all my numbers were good and I had no algae presence whatsoever. I read somewhere here on TFP that prolonged high chlorine levels would do that. A few days after I got it down from...

Changing a DPST to SPST Timer

That's what I'm thinking. The clock motor is pre-wired to A (neutral) and hot to Terminal 1.

Changing a DPST to SPST Timer

No, there's just the 4 insulated wires coming in to the timer box, 2 white and 2 black (plus 2 grounds). The only thing on the circuit is the pool pump.

Changing a DPST to SPST Timer

The pump is 110. I just changed it out this spring. It's a Hayward 1.5 super pump. In fact, I don't have any 220 lines in my breaker box.

Changing a DPST to SPST Timer

My Timex timer broke recently (plastic shaft inside snapped) and no longer will spin. I bought an Intermatic T101M as a replacement. Beside the fact that mechI got a super deal on it on eBay, but didn't realize that it was a SPST as opposed to the DPST that the Timex is. Which means that the...

    Injecting Stabilizer via the Clorinator

Couldn't find an answer to this on the board, so I thought I'd let the experts speak to this. My CYA is down. Way down. It won't register on using the sight glass, so it's either down to nothing or, like I read last night, levels below 20 won't register at all at times. At any rate, I got some...

    What's your current pool temp?

My water temp was 71 on Saturday. I am waiting (and waiting and waiting) for it to drop to 60, so i can close it down and put the cover on. I'm really tired of sucking out acorns every day! I noticed that all my friends with AGPs have already closed theirs. I figured that it is because of the...

    What's your current pool temp?

My water temp was 82 this past weekend with the air temp of about 88. I went swimming for a short time Sunday afternoon with no problems. We are planning one last pool party/cookout for next Sunday, and then I will start thinking about closing the pool for the winter.

    Questions for first closing

You don't have to suck on a hose to start a siphon. You can submerse the hose to fill it, keep one end in the water, plug the other and place it lower than the water level, then unplug it.

    Loud Squeal From Pump

That's probably it. I'm just going to keep the pump running until I close the pool for the year, and then pull the pump off. I watched a couple of youtube videos on how to change the ceramic seal. It doesn't look too hard. Of course, with my talent, it will most likely end in disaster. The other...

    Loud Squeal From Pump

If I shut the pump off for a while, like overnight, or 10 hours during the day, when I turn it back on I get a loud squeal that lasts from 45 minutes to an hour or so. The water seems to be pumping OK, and the pump pressure is good and in the normal range. It seems to me that once the pump gets...

    Pump Mystery

Just shooting from the hip here, but sounds like you might have taken a lightning strike that took out an already weak pump.

Newest Additon to the pool area

Back in March I saw this clock/temp/humidty gage at Sears. I waited until it went on the clearance rack, at the end of July. I managed to snag the last one, the display model. I just got it set up last week. I am hoping to get a couple of low-voltage spots to shine up on it, so I can check the...

    Snake!!

That's one of those Copperhead Water Rattlers I've heard about! And after reaching into the skimmer to empty the basket early one morning and having a face to face meeting a bullfrog (which freaked me out, I can only imagine what a snake would do) , I've learned to always check the skimmer in...

Had my first Pool Party Friday!

We had our company picnic at my house Friday afternoon. Kind of a big deal because the company President, our division VP and his wife came down from D.C. to join us. I had the pool sparkling clean for it. I got lots of positive feedback on how nice the water was. We had one adult and 10 kids in...

What is "Clarifier" and is it a good or a bad thing?

I had slightly cloudy water too, just like you. It was good, but not what I thought it should be. I used the DE trick and kept the pump running straight for 72 hours and it cleaned it up till it's crystal clear now. The first time I tried the DE in the filter, once the pressure got up to 20...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

That is just plain awesome. You (or someone) should post the first and the last picture together as a side-by-side comparison of what the BBB method can do. :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

I was paid the ultimate complement...

...when my wife came out to the man cave where I was tinkering with assembling a new pool float and asked if I had drained the pool! The water was crystal clear, I had the pump off, and the pool light on and she couldn't see the water! THE BBB METHOD WORKS! I just have to discipline myself to...

    Two Questions

    1. Is what I'm doing OK? Since my schedule is hectic and I don't get huge blocks of time to spend setting up the vac, vac'ing the pool, and taking the equipment down, so I just leave the vac connected and leave it in the water. A few minutes in the morning, a few minutes at lunch, and when I...

    What's your current pool temp?

Mine was 88 yesterday afternoon. I only get 3 hours of direct sun, from 12:30 to 3:30, so it stays a tad cooler than other pools around me.

    Is What I'm Doing OK?

I haven't been able to sweep and vac the pool as I should have this past week, and yesterday I noticed that I have algae again! Not a lot, but the water has lost it's sheen and there's pockets on the bottom and down the corners to the deep end. I grabbed the brush, and swept it since I didn't...
