Any complications from compost getting in the pool?

I've been doing some landscaping projects, and I have a pile of compost on the side of the yard that I bought. There has been some wind this week and its blown compost into the pool- a fine black layer all on the bottom. I brushed it off of the steps and the cleaner is sucking up the rest to...

    Rust colored spots

Okay- I'll try scratching them off and report back. I havent used a wire brush or steel wool in the pool. If it is coming from inside the plaster, are there any long term problems with the rust?

    Rust colored spots

Sure. I was planning on waiting to see if I could solve the problem before posting this in the chemistry forums above, but since you asked, I just went out and measured these tonight: FC 6.0 CC 0.0 pH 7.3-7.4 TA 70 CH 475 CYA 60 I installed an intelliph earlier this year so my pH should stay...

    Rust colored spots

Aside from battling white flakes from my SWG, I don't have any big chemistry issues. Water is clear and always close to balanced (can't say it is completely balanced given the white flakes...)

    Rust colored spots

Just a couple. The biggest one is maybe 1/4 inch across, and I saw that one a few months ago. But yesterday I noticed a little grouping of some smaller ones in a different area. This is on a caribbean shelf. Nothing that I know of has been left in the pool that could cause this.

    Rust colored spots

I've noticed a couple of small rust-looking spots in the shallow end of the pool. The pool is an in-ground pool that was built a little over a year ago with a plaster finish (technically its DiamondBrite). Anything to be concerned about?

5 year old just had a diarrhea accident in the pool

From searching the forums here it looks like close the pool and super-chlorinate. How long should I wait before allowing people back in the pool? Chemistry was good when the accident happened.

Is there any difference between R-0012 and R-0012C?

Thats what I suspected. Thanks for confirming.

Is there any difference between R-0012 and R-0012C?

There is a 2oz R-0012C for ~$6 (including shipping) at Amazon, but the .75oz R-0012 is almost $7 with shipping. Are they the same thing?

Liability: What are some basic steps for pool owners to take

Re: Liability: What are some basic steps for pool owners to I get that anybody can be sued at anytime for anything. I'm just curious what steps can be taken to demonstrate that I as a pool owner am taking "enough" steps to prevent accidents that there is little legal chance of being found liable.

Liability: What are some basic steps for pool owners to take

I read this article today: http://boston.cbslocal.com/2013/06/04/w ... e-charges/ It got me thinking- what are steps that pool owners should take to limit liability in cases like this? Pools can fall under an attractive nuisance doctrine. How much is enough to protect yourself? Right now we...

My daughter is complaining that her eyes hurt after swimming

Re: My daughter is complaining that her eyes hurt after swim Not yet- between some colder weather and a stomach flu going through the house, there hasn't been much swimming. I am targeting a slightly higher PH (7.6-7.7) and I dialed back my SWG a tad, so we will see if that helps. We also got...

My daughter is complaining that her eyes hurt after swimming

Re: My daughter is complaining that her eyes hurt after swim She is 5. She does open her eyes a lot, but she did last year too and never complained. Not sure what is different. I can let the PH float up a little higher- can't let it get too high though with my CH levels. BTW, the...

My daughter is complaining that her eyes hurt after swimming

Re: My daughter is complaining that her eyes hurt after swim Eyes turn red and are burning. Nobody else has really been complaining, but she swims a lot more than anybody else in the family. Water is crystal clear.

My daughter is complaining that her eyes hurt after swimming

Re: My daughter is complaining that her eyes hurt after swim BTW- I overheard this conversation in the pool store yesterday when I was picking up some more acid: Pool store guy: "No, you don't want to mess with any drops or anything like that. The chemistry is really important with a vinyl...

My daughter is complaining that her eyes hurt after swimming

I can't figure out why. Here are my numbers from today from my Taylor K-2006- I can't find anything wrong with them. This is an in-ground plaster pool with SWG: PH: 7.4 FC: 9.8 CC: 0 TA: 70 CH: 425 CYA: somewhere around 40-50- like many others I struggle with this test :-D Salt: ~3400 I...

Did I do something wrong with my salt?

Did I do something wrong with my salt?

I have an autofill valve but I turned it off for the winter. The pool water level did drop a little after I turned it off but with the rain it never got down more than an inch or two. I'll retest the ch of the water supply- as I recall from last year it was rather high (~400).

Did I do something wrong with my salt?

Our pool was built last year. I have a salt cell and last year I measured the salt at ~3400ppm and the salt cell was working great, and we could hardly taste any salt in the water. I live in a fairly moderate climate so I didn't have to fully close the pool for the winter (just removed the...

Whats the trick in cleaning out the pump filter basket?

In my case, you turn the pressure meter at the top a quarter turn to open the valve. I had done that after cleaning the filter cartridges but I guess I closed it too early (I closed it once water started coming out).

Whats the trick in cleaning out the pump filter basket?

When the pump is running I see a bunch of junk in there (dead bugs, leaves, etc). As soon as the pump stops, it all gets sucked back up the pipe. Is there a trick to get this stuff out?

Freeze protection mode is slowly draining my spa

I turned on my spa last night for a New Years Eve dip, but when we got out there we discovered that the water level in the spa was down significantly (over a foot). It wasn't that way earlier in the day. Since then I have checked it a few times and it seems that when the freeze protection mode...

    Another entertaining pool store visit

My first realization that the pool store wasn't a reliable source of information was right after our pool was finished and I brought my first sample in. He dipped a test strip in the water and confidently said "You need 5 pounds of bicarb". I hadn't even told him the size of my pool :)

Whoops- I left my test kit outside overnight in the rain

The individual regent bottles were closed, but the blue case was left open and had a bunch of rain in it. Are the regents still good? This is a Taylor K-2006, btw.
