Refilling hot tub with pool water

is there a easy and fairly fast way to do this? i guess i could try siphon with garden hose but shouldn't there be an inexpensive pump to speed up the process?

    Additional tests needed for spa?

The suggestion: 'Edit > if you do decide to change to chlorine (bleach) you have a ready to use, balanced and disinfected supply in your pool that can be used to fill the spa with, it saves balancing two pools of water' is great idea! you guys are great.

    Additional tests needed for spa?

Ok, thanks for all the replies. I guess I was under the impression that the hot water demanded something above and beyond bleach. Hence the bromine. To confirm...you guys are saying bromine is not required and there are no drawbacks?

    Additional tests needed for spa?

I have just added a spa to the backyard and already use the Taylor K-2006 for my pool. What additional test kit stuff will I need to test chemicals (bromine?) in the spa (Sundance 780 series Chelsee model). They gave me strips but don't think I want to use 'em. Thanks, Ben.

Getting picky - how to get pool to sparkle

Ok...shocked it. Seems to have helped. Test results today: FC = 14 (is this ok to swim in?) CC = 0 PH = 8 (will add MA today to lower this) TA = 75 CH = 275 CYA = 45 Read the sticky note on borates. I guess you're going to tell me it's personal preference, but do I really want to get into...

Getting picky - how to get pool to sparkle

Thru this site's advice, I've been very good at keeping chem levels up to your recommendations. I test every three days and typically add 1.5 gals of clorox every 2-3 days and MA every 3 weeks. Water is never cloudy and I don't have any problems. But, and maybe I'm expecting too much, water...

TFtestkits no longer ship to Hawaii

HA! Just got notified from swimming pool supply company that they don't ship outside continental US, that the notice on their order page had been inadvertently deleted. Will be placing my order to tftestkits!

TFtestkits no longer ship to Hawaii

Yes, got a red error message saying doesn't ship to this zip code. And, hate to say this but other company has cheaper shipping rates...about $3 cheaper for one product. However, I realize this forum has a connection with tftestkits so don't mind paying a little more, the info I've gotten...

Had to go with Swimming Pool Supply Company. :( And related question - is R-0871 reagent the same as DPD 1 or 2?

Use highest value of range from pool calculator?

It appears that when you put in values in pool calculator it recommends you add chemicals to get to the highest value of the range (even if your values are within range). Is this what I should be doing, going after the highest value of each range (except maybe for ph)?

Just checking: is 1.5 FC loss every day normal?

For 2 months now (since joining this forum) I've been following your lead and am happy that chemical balance has been under control and not one day of cloudy water (something that I always struggled with when I had pool guys do it). Water is crystal clear and I get all kinds of compliments from...

Pool cover for irregularly shaped pool

Every week I cut the grass around the pool and even though I use a basket to catch clippings, the trade winds, weed whacker and blower cause a large buildup of grass in the pool. It's almost more work skimming and vacuuming out clippings than it is to cut the grass. I have a slide and a diving...

    Another way to test CYA?

I have the Taylor K-2006 kit and love it except for the CYA test. Just seems I get different readings depending on lighting, my eyes, bubbles, exactly when black dot disappears, you name it. Is there another test kit or process that does this easier?

    Taylor chlorine reagents

I had same problem, pool store doesn't stock R-0870 (DPD powder)...ordered it from duraleigh (although shipping cost is same amount as product :( ...guess it's because of Hawaii). My question is...how do you clean the little dipper? It has turned black and no matter what cleaning substance I...

    Trichlor vs bleach

Yea, that was my first thought, I might be doing test wrong but I had the pool store check it when I had a reading of 200+ and when it's zero...they got the same reading I did.

    Trichlor vs bleach

Guy at the pool store tells me that it's better to use trichlor instead of bleach because bleach is only 6% which means I'm adding 94% of something inert. He contends that this 94% of something else will eventually bring the Total Dissolved Solids (TSA) level up to the point that only draining...

What effect does lots of rain have on chemical balance?

Got to say...you guys and this forum are great. You get the most thorough, no BS, quick responses from here than any other forum I've seen. I feel very secure in taking your recommendations. You have given me a lot of confidence in taking on this new responsibility. Thanks.

Ok, need some more education. I thought you said the only way to get rid of CYA was to drain the pool.

Does chlorine really get used up that fast?

Ok. Will do. Also, got a few more questions: Yesterday I cut the grass and weedwhacked around the pool perimeter. Even though I use a grass catcher and try to blow grass away from the pool, the trade winds blow grass trimmings into pool and there is no way from preventing almost the entire...

Does chlorine really get used up that fast?

FC in the morning was 7, twelve hours later it's at 0. Now, CYA level is still at zero because I just added it a few days ago and it's slowly dissolving thru socks and I think you said it takes a week or so to register so maybe it's not helping to keep chlorine in the water (and it was a fairly...

    Pool calculator numbers correct?!

Ok, thx. Only difference I see in pool calc numbers when switching from vinyl to plaster is for CH. Vinyl = 50-300, plaster = 250-350. So, are you still recommending that I wait to raise my current level from 50? Robbie...LOL, 7 gallons!! But, noticed you have 44k gallons. Wow...is this...

    Pool calculator numbers correct?!

Ok, thx. Other questions: 1. I'm using 'vinyl' as pool type for a fully tiled pool. Correct? 2. I added muriatic acid to lower pH. Got scary warnings on how dangerous this chemical is. Do I really need a respirator to use if I'm adding relatively small amounts (28 ozs) and trade winds are...

    Pool calculator numbers correct?!

Ok...progress. After a few days of complete water replacement and adding some chems, here are my numbers: FC = 4.5 (this is after adding 12 gallons of bleach over 3 days) pH = 8.0 (could be because I added 5 lbs of baking soda to raise TA?) TA = 80 CH = 50 (same thing as when first added...

Learned my lesson-don't turn on pool light unless submerged

Wish I had read the little warning around the pool light that says, 'Only turn on light while submerged' BEFORE I was draining the pool and turned on the light to see how low the water was at night. Quickly blew the 500w bulb...and they aren't cheap! Who'd a thunk the light needed to be...
