    My SLAM and Filtration Issues

If you really want to attempt it just for experimental reasons you can probably install the valves just before the pump and just after it as it looks like you have a good amount of straight pipe there to work with to make a cut and install the valves. But again I really don't see it being that...

    My SLAM and Filtration Issues

Yeah I have seen the same exact setup on a friend's pool before, only I think that they had a Hayward Super Flow 2 pump. For the last several years I've been trying to convince her to come over to the TFP methods, but she can't be bothered with taking 30 minutes out of her life for me to explain...

My Trouble Free Pool - Copper Sulfate

I've learned from TFP over the last 6 years just how unnecessary copper sulfate, and Algecide really is... I personally wouldn't want it in my water. That said.....I was throwing around the idea a few years ago to build a ionizer with a small very low amp battery charger and a copper rod as an...

    My SLAM and Filtration Issues

Other than the Hayward selection handle. Is there any type of ball check valve or secondary shutoff valve before the pump or after or in the middle of the return circuit? Or is it all straight PVC pipe with just couplings and connectors? You shouldn't get too much back pressure when the bag is...

    My SLAM and Filtration Issues

Once I cut the ring off the bag, I just slip the hose clamp over the bag first, then insert the bag and clamp over the elbow, at the bag neck I fold the bag twice over itself at the neck. Then slide the clamp down and tighten as tight as possible without cracking the elbow fitting. You will...

    My SLAM and Filtration Issues

If your psi goes up as a result of effective filtration of the bags, simply remove them, bring them to your sink and rinse them with hot water with the spray jet. Or better yet, if you have a small power washer, clean it with that.Just make sure that you stop your pump when you get 10 psi or...

    Help green pool

Here is a picture. Of a eyeball return jet. You simply unscrew it from your return housing counter clockwise, attach the bag to a 90-degree elbow with the turn key hose clamp, screw it clockwise back into the return housing, and seat it gently, then back it off 1 turn. Takes 5 to 10 minutes to...

    Help green pool

Ok here is my duda diesel bag setup. Typically you would just need a flathead screwdriver to attach and remove a hose clamp, but I've eliminated that inconvenience, by using a turnkey hose clamp. You can find them at the register at your local auto parts store for like $4. All you need is the...

    Help green pool

The cloudiness of the pool is most likely due to dead white algae as a result of the SLAM that needs to be filtered out. Depending on your filtration system and the Micron size that it can filter, it may not be able to get all the fine suspended particles out of the pool. You can try keep...

    Help with Stubborn Cloudy Green

I'm going to address the last reply backwards. I don't see a improperly sized hose being a limiting factor because obviously the hose has to be properly sized in order to fit the ball check valves, skimmer inlet and return jet inlet. (I forget what the exact size is.) With that being said...

    Help green pool

I'm going to have a discussion here that may be subject to controversy by our moderators here at TFP. Hopefully they are in agreeance with my opinion and experience, that it is in line with their teachings. I think we can all agree that chlorine sanitizes our pools.... Unless another method...

    Help green pool

Yeah my setup is the same way. My return eyeball jet is literally right next to the skimmer, which kind of does disrupt filtration a little bit depending on how I want the skimmer to skim accurately. When I point my eyeball downwards towards the floor it blows all of the debris up off the floor...

    Help with Stubborn Cloudy Green

Just saw this reply. "In the meantime, while I'm sipping my POP , and while we have Robert's attention, I want to see if I have the whole filter pressure concept figured out. So positive pressure is pre-pump, like your skimmer basket or main drain. Negative pressure is post-pump, like your...

    Help with Stubborn Cloudy Green

What exactly the manual referring to as 25%? 25% above clean starting pressure? Or 25 % of the whole Hayward gauge which tops out at 60 psi? At least my gague tops out at 60 psi. So .25 of 60 psi would be 15 psi. I don't know if Hayward has different higher psi gauges for different filtration...

Do I have to get in the swamp to clean it?

Amburruss. Your main goal is to get as much debris out of the pool as possible. Even if you have to blindly leaf bag rake the floor with a leaf net. Then you want to follow the procedures here and test your water chemistry first. Use the Pool Math calculator at TFP to determine and add the...

Do I have to get in the swamp to clean it?

Yeah the K-2006 CYA and FAS-DPD reagent gets consumed pretty quickly. Which is why the TF-100. Is the better option. Just figured I would throw both of them out there. Coming back around to the subject of filtration. A TFP member pointed me torwards using a Duda Diesel Bag in my return jet a...

Do I have to get in the swamp to clean it?

All kidding aside I've opened my pool black before and had frogs living in it. It smell like a swamp. This last year I let leaves get in the pool because the cable snapped on my cover, and this year I opened up to clear green, and now 5 days later I'm crystal clear. You are in good hands here...

What is a recommended pool filter run time?

I actually meant 4 hours a week. But I only typically do that when my levels are perfect and water is glass clear. If I see any debris on the top of the water during the course of a week I might run for 8 to 12 hours for the whole week. Conditions may vary depending on your pool circumstances...

My SLAM w/ Duda Bags & Fiber Clear

My SLAM w/ Duda Bags & Fiber Clear Yes whether its sand, cartridge, or DE, you want your filters to run a little bit dirty to filter out the finer suspended particles and algae if you have it. The results of your filtration system doing such is that it increases pressure. As the Hayward manual...

What is a recommended pool filter run time?

Yes that is correct I have one and a half horsepower pump in a 7200 gallon pool. It can turn over that in 8 hours. When my water chemistry is perfect and my water is Crystal Clear I only run the pump maybe 4 hours a week if that. When I need to clear something and run the pump for approximately...

    Huge Stains on Liner

Good post. I was aware of the ascorbic acid/vitamin c trick from here from about a year ago but haven't attempted to try it yet. I have round rust stains from a year or two ago from dropping a hose clamp in the pool unawaringly after I closed it for winter, when it got knocked around after...

    Pool Still Green After Opening

Here is a picture of my Hayward cartridge filter system. The waste port at the back of it is simply plugged from the factory. You just remove the black plastic plug and install a Hayward ball check valve like so. Use Teflon tape and silicone lube or pool lube, add a cheap vinyl drain hose, and...

Solid Advise by Tim5055. Heed what he says. Shock is a elevated FC procedure during a SLAM, not a product.

Just opened first tests with tf-100

WOW Your CYA is OFF THE CHARTS AND OUT OF THE BALL PARK. Maybe it would make more sense to fix that skimmer basket first, do a partial drain, and then just add more water to get that CYA level down to more reasonable levels.

Yes Bobby please adhere to Texas Splash information. Get the FAS-DPD chlorine testing kit as your first measure. It is included in the Taylor TF-100 kit or the Taylor K-2006 kit which has less amounts of reagent. It is required to measure the higher levels of chlorine for a SHOCK or SLAM of FC...

Stressed Out!!! Trying to Prevent Issues

First off. Purchase a Taylor TF-100 test kit or as a secondary option. Taylor K-2006 test kit. The K-2006 doesn't have as much CYA or FAS-DPD reagent. People here WILL HOUND YOU TO DO THAT FIRST TO GET A GOOD AND ACCURATE TEST MEASUREMENTS TO ASSIST YOU. That is your first step. You second...
