    Water Chemistry-Free Chlorine

Would it hurt to go one more evening at shock level to reduce the CC to 0? And again pass the OCLT...Just for piece of mind? (Sorry I'm compulsive like that.)

    Dead Alge Vacuming/ Cleanup

If you wish to vaccum to waste then do it if you do not live in an area where there are no water restrictions, water is cheap, and or rain is ample. I installed a "vacuum to waste" valve in place of my drain plug on my cartridge filter system. It technically doesn't directly bypass the...

    Water Chemistry-Free Chlorine

Heheh... What Duraleigh said..Do you want to drop a couple of bucks on a couple of cases of bleach, or do you want the pool store to upsell you $350 worth of Algecide, Soda Ash, Ph +/- 80 lbs of tri chlor pucks which you'll probably never use. ( My 80lb pail is 4 years old and untouched.) and...

How often do you add liquid chlorine for a 24' above ground pool?

Sorry I guess I'm going off of old terminology. Ok so now it's the TFPC process.

How often do you add liquid chlorine for a 24' above ground pool?

Kabs996. I used to have the same issue as you for my first two years of pool ownership. I have a 18 ft round 4 ft deep, and I used to use trichlor tab pucks, and I couldn't figure out why I was getting algae outbreaks in the middle of July for 2 years. After coming to tfp and realizing that it...

Numbers perfect, SLAMing for Days, still not clear:(

Re: Numbers perfect, SLAMing for Days, still not clear:( How is your weather? Hot and sunny? Plus you have algae under your steps which has been removed. CC is still 0.5 If it has been hot and sunny, maybe you should carefully raise your CYA to 40 ppm and hold the FC at 16 ppm for SLAM. Your...

Questions about FC and CC test with Taylor K-2006

These are all good valid questions I would like to have answered as well. I have with the k2006 fas dpd always used 2 level scoops, used the 10ml to save reagent, and added drops until the sample was just on the verge of completely clear with a slight pink twinge to it, added one more drop to...

Algae and Timing of Filter Cleaning

Depending on the type of cartridge filter system you have. If you do not have a multiport valve like found on a DE or sand system to recirculate without filtering hence bypassing the filter directly. Or option of vaccuming to waste. I have another workaround for that if you have a drain plug on...

Wow after my search on here of refinishing plaster is extensive from. EcoFinish to AquaBright...to just simply replastering with scratch coats and finish coats... This is a whole another level for me since I'm on a vinyl liner above ground pool. Coatings however have always been a peculiar...

Got me thinking over here what kind of coating you can put over that plaster surface that is chemical resistant and appealing other than paint or drylock expoxy? I just googled plaster pool paint coatings and found something called SauSea eco friendly natural rubberized chlorinated pool paint...

Algae and Timing of Filter Cleaning

Is there any way to determine specifically what kind of "shock" product your pool company put in your pool? Is there an invoice? The reason I ask this is because there are 2-3 types of "shock" granules or powders. Calcium Hypochlorite which raises calcium levels. DiChlor which significantly...

Numbers perfect, SLAMing for Days, still not clear:(

Re: Numbers perfect, SLAMing for Days, still not clear:( Your numbers look good, but CC is still present. Aqua to cloudy blue to clear are the next steps. What is your OCLT? of FC loss in a 24 hr time frame? Also may be due to sand filter and 3/4hp pump. It may take a while to filter. It also...

Newbie...about to SLAM my newly acquired very green pond

MKNAUSS stands correct with the rule of 20-25% above clean operating pressure since it is versatile and applicable to all filter types and mediums, sand, cartridge, DE, and various type if flow and hp pumps. Which may or may not be +10 psi . I see you have a Jandy system. I have a Hayward...

Newbie...about to SLAM my newly acquired very green pond

You are doing everything just right judging from the information you read and conveyed here. My little piece of advice is let your PSI or pressure dictate to you when to clean the cartridges. I understand the cartridges are going to load up fast with algae and dead algae in the pool. As a...

    Stubborn Algae Removal

Its going to take some time like a week or so to remove the staining at SLAM or SHOCK levels, but it will eventually come out. My corners of my side wall and floor are stained where the leaves fell in over the winter, and the stains are slowly disappearing. If you have a tri chlor puck, try...

    South Alabama Swamp Slam

This is too funny and too ironic. I ordered the R-0013 CYA reagent and mine arrived yesterday too. As I was getting out of my car yesterday near my storm drain, just before I grabbed my Amazon box of reagents I saw this guy. Huge box turtle I think.

Still green - starting to understand why I think - need help!

If there is no way to gauge how much water you're draining and how much water you're pumping in. I would attempt to remove the water one third at a time. Take the level down to the bottom of the skimmer basket, refilled freshwater back up to skimmer basket, circulate old and new water, then run...

Algae and Timing of Filter Cleaning

Just out of curiosity are you going by your definition of shocking a pool or TFP's definition of shocking a pool? TFP recommend bringing FC to shock levels with liquid chlorine sodium hypochlorire only. Bleach or Pool Chlorine, no DiChlor, or Tri Chlor pucks, or Cal Hypo packets unless Calcium...

Trying to find the correct skimmer basket

I had the same problem. I have at least 10 skimmer baskets with the rim cracked in the same place. I think I am Hayward sp1090 or 1092 I forget. I use skimmer socks and have a 1.5 hp pump, so when the socks load up heavy from debris it creates a vaccum and negative pressure which is what...

    My cloudy water

The use of flocculant is a quick 24h remedy, but clogs sand, DE, and cartridge filters, rendering the medium useless, so not reccomended. Keep SLAM ing the pool until CC is 0.5, water is clear, and OCLT pass FC loss of 1-2 ppm in 24 hrs. Try hairnets or skimmer socks on your skimmer basket. Just...

Newbie about to start first SLAM

Lower Ph to 7.2 after phosphate tests. Get the CYA to a minimum of 30 ppm, then SLAM away. Throw a skimmer sock or hairnet on the skimmer basket, to lengthen cartridge filter rinse intervals, and if you want, try a duda diesel bag on the return jet to capture fine suspended particles and dead algae.

    Help green pool

Outstanding! Nice picture follow up. She's beautiful. Now that you have seen the water go from green to clear and have gained a sense of experience watching the water color change with the SLAM and the clarity change with the effective filtration. Now you do get it just by looking at the water...
