Do snakes give birth in pools? Eeek

Pool still under construction. But I found a baby snake in the empty pool today. Not sure what it was. I was tempted to kill it, but decided not to. Thing is, it coiled up and tried to strike the shovel. Finally got it out and threw it as far over the fence as I could (I have 2 acres...

Yup, if you have gmail already, might as well use google photos. While you are at it, have it on your phone to back up all the pictures you've taken.

    New build- Baytown, TX

It's just so interesting how each builder are so different in their philosophy. Our PB said they build almost all Salt Water and prefer it (good for me because I wanted salt water). I asked about the salt and damages, he said: 1) if you set it up right, it's not going to be a problem and 2)...

I am so torn on what color Wet Edge to get. Right now, we have selected Northshore Tahoe. I really want a black bottom pool. But it's a no go for the wife. I know we are not deep enough for nice deep blue, but I want as dark a blue as possible. That's why we ended up where we are. Ugh...

Unfortunately, due to the 5 days of rain, not a whole heck of a lot has happened. They did come over yesterday to clean up a little, grade around the pool some, and remove the form around the pool. We don't have the next set of dates just yet since the PB is a little backed up. I do know tile...

I am currently using a Phantom 3 4K. Great little drone really. I am very impressed with the software aspect of it. My PB mentioned that they have been looking into getting a drone, to do just as you say, help out with the design and planning stage. My in-laws are now north of Denton - they...

Practiced using the test kit this morning. I guess eventually, I will remember the steps. But for the time being, it's a lot of reading.... The water in the neighborhood comes from a community well. There's a company that processes the water and pumps it through out the neighborhood. Here...

Question: do return lines normally get finished off with a threaded fitting? I want to make sure I can screw on some aerators.

I have a question: I recall seeing a picture or someone filling their pool with a large whole house type filter attached to the end of the garden hose. I was thinking of maybe doing the same with a sediment filter to filter out sand and what not. Thoughts? Too much paranoia? Haha

I really like Texas. But there are some trade offs. For one, the heat in the summer is just a little ridiculous. But land is cheaper that's for sure.

I keep having to remind myself that this is a custom hand made product and as such, it would not be "perfect". You know perfectly flat floors etc etc. I am going to start practicing how to test with the test kit this weekend. I am also going to subscribe to the iOS app to help track everything.

Just a few more pictures of the completed product. We had to make a change on the fly. The last step was supposed to go all the way around. But we all decided it's best to not do it so it would not interfere with the light and gives us a little more swim space.

Cliff is right. It now looks bigger! When we first measured it, I worried it would be too small. Then when they set the lines for excavation, I thought I should have gone bigger. While I wouldn't have complained about even bigger, it is larger than I imagined.

Gunite team got here bright and early, about 6:20AM. Good thing we are early risers and I don't have neighbors close to me. :) I observed that one guy got to deal with the light fixture. The lid for it is a pain in the butt, they are hard to get on, and the rebar for the light can was JUST a...

    Sheer descents

They are not cheap and it depends on what the rest of the features look like. You get something fancy, they start going up quickly. We were originally not going to do any features. But the PB said most of their renovation work includes adding features and they are more expensive after the...

Regardless of the rain, I am excited the TF-100 Test kit comes in today. I am going to practice using the kit and test the fill water. We have a community well. We've never had water issue, but the water is hard... though the city water is hard as well. Hopefully the water won't be too much...

Pool building is a messy business, especially if it rains. Of course timing would have it that the forecast has a week worth of rain coming. Currently plumbing is tomorrow and gunite Friday. But not sure if they can get there. We did get steel done today at least. But it was messy. I...

The two lakes are catch and release. I don't dish there but apparently it's not terrible. There is a risk of catching gators in there though... Our neighborhood gets gator tags each year. We are close to the state park which has lots of gators. They occasionally make their way here.

The rebar people showed up today. It was supposed to be tomorrow, but they had a job cancellation, probably due to rain up on the north side, and they asked if they could show up. Suuuure why not. A few more pictures from yesterday. This was taken around 5:30 pm or so. Shows where the...

Excavation is done. Steel and rough plumbing is supposed to be on Thursday. Gunite is supposed to be Friday. But alas, it's supposed to rain around here. Soooo. We will see. When we built the house, even though we are outside of the floodplain, we asked for the house to be built up...

They are digging as I type! Will post a few pics in a bit. There's a reason for the shorter wall... we are going to build a pool/ guest house on that far right side in a couple of years. So we decided to keep the wall shorter so it wouldn't look as strange coming off the front patio of the...

Thanks! it'll be salt. I am out in Richmond. Our decision actually was either to sell the house and move into town or do something with the house now. Decided to stick with the house since it'll be really hard to replace the space and value we have right now.

Been lurking on TFP for a few weeks... bought my test kit Saturday. The start of the process was really annoying, but it was no fault of the pool builder. It was mostly logistics stuff on my side. We started this discussion in the early parts of June. We finally got the go ahead from the HOA...
