    Green pool

Welcome neighbor (close enough) I'm adding my 2 cents. I agree with others - the water looks good but not crystal clear, TFP Sparkly. You can still swim in it during a SLAM. When it gets crystal clear "sparkly" you will wonder why you ever thought it was clear before.

You have not "sinned". Metal testing is accurate from the pool store and too expensive to do at home. It's the only test that's accurate from the pool store. No added calcium needed. You have a vinyl pool and the water does not leach calcium out of it no matter what the pool store tells you.

Does that "dirt" come back later after you've brushed it? Then it's not dirt, it's dead algae. Keep killing that stuff.

    Algae Help!

I use a long 1/2 in pvc pipe to draw water out of my pool. Never need to stick my arm in it. (But my water does not irritate my skin either so I don't need the pipe. I just use it so my arm doesn't get wet LOL)

    Clay soil

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you are getting conflicting suggestions from your post. Sand will not compact. It will wash away. We had to refill a small area with clay when we dug for our pool but that was clay and a small area. @kimkats , @zea3, @Casey

Family Member Dumped Algeacide instead of Shock in Pool

Curious question: Do you run your pool pump 24/7 during the SLAM? If not, that would be part of the problem in getting rid of the algae. And yes, it's important during the SLAM to never let the FC get below shock level.

Family Member Dumped Algeacide instead of Shock in Pool

Sounds like you're on your way. Also consider how clear is clear? Here at TFP people describe their clear water as "sparkly" clear. You'll know it when you see it and wonder how you ever thought it was clear before. :swim:

Family Member Dumped Algeacide instead of Shock in Pool

When you vacuum, do the algae spots vacuum up and go away, and then return later? Usually algae puffs when you vacuum them and they return later. If it doesn't puff and doesn't vacuum up, then it's probably not algae.

    DIY Solar Cover Roller

Sorry, no. Someone else brought that up several pages back and it was a NO. I bought some at Menards a couple months ago. They had white and black. The black was required for mobile homes and was more expensive than the white. They came in 10 foot lengths.

Build thread? 27' round salt water AGP

If the SWG is not working get liquid chlorine in that water ASAP!!! You will get yourself in the same situation with algae taking over your pool if you do not add chlorine.

First time pool owner, older pool

Great pool and good start to the SLAM. I'm concerned about your vinyl liner and severely low pH. That will wrinkle the liner. But high FC causes the pH test to show it higher than it is. Retest pH when FC is under 10. Get pH up to 7.2. Then your FC for a SLAM needs to be maintained at 12 all the...

Algae? problem. Going on for a couple of weeks. Can't get any improvement.

I was just looking at your siggy. The Intex filters take longer to get thru the SLAM and I guess have to be cleaned more often. Does it have a gauge and can you tell when the psi increases 25%, then backwash? Or is it different?

Algae? problem. Going on for a couple of weeks. Can't get any improvement.

Great. :thumleft: Also I don't bother to vacuum to waste since I have a sand filter and it does not clog up. I think DE or cartridge filters would need to be cleaned a lot more often. Whenever I get the dead algae on the bottom of my pool, I vacuum VERY SLOWLY which also brushes the bottom. I...

Algae? problem. Going on for a couple of weeks. Can't get any improvement.

Does your vacuum send the water directly to the filter or does it use a net to collect debris? Dead algae is best sent directly to the filter to get it out of the pool. Vacuums with bags/nets are just sweepers and don't remove the dead algae nor does it collect in the bag. Algae is too fine and...

Did I overestimate my pool volume?

Plug your pool dimensions in Pool Math and it will calculate your water volume. FYI: ___ wide by ___ long by ___ deep (which is the height of the water itself not the height of the pool)

Local Pool Store Water Analysis vs TFP Pool Math App

How's your pool doing? I realize these results are from 6/6/21 but what are they today? With FC of 1.5 and CYA of 90, that's an algae bloom just waiting for the perfect moment to rear it's ugly head.

^^^^What Newdude said. ;) Also, are you keeping the FC at shock level at all times or as best as you can? Are you vacuuming or just brushing? My experience has been to vacuum the settled algae directly into the filter using a manual vacuum. Then brush AFTER that. The cloudy water is the dieing...

    Stubborn Pool!

Just FYI: after the SLAM is complete, you'll need to adjust your pH. Very low pH wrinkles vinyl liners. Over the years, I had a real problem with this - didn't realize the importance of making the adjustments.

Great! (not sure why you're waiting but do what you can) Keeping up the shock level overnight will be a challenge but you can get it up before bed and check again first thing in the morning. :thumleft:

As you accurately and diligently follow the SLAM, your pool water will progress from green to cloudy blue to less cloudy blue to clear blue with dead algae clumps to sparkly TFP clear. If and only if you follow the SLAM process without taking shortcuts or not maintaining the shock level. Brush...

The metal tests seem to be accurate. There is no affordable home testing for those. Copper does not turn your water green. It turns your blond hair green. The other tests from the pool store are not. Not even close to being as accurate as your own home testing with TF-100 or K2006. Your water...

    Stubborn Pool!

Welcome to the forum. You're in good hands with the mods. :) Be aware low pH, if left for long periods of time, wrinkles vinyl liners. Only use liquid chlorine/bleach for your SLAM. Don't bother testing pH during the SLAM because it will read higher than what it is. After the SLAM you will need...

    Old pool under new pool?

I have a friend who wants to put up a new 16x32 rectangle AGP Intex pool in an area of her yard. She and her husband just discovered an old buried IGP underneath. They can't tell the size of the old pool and are trying to find out from the previous owner more information regarding the IGP. They...

Here's some pics. Having a difficult time getting them out. The wacking them with a hammer doesn't work. We can't get at them. The next thing we'll try is drilling them out like Woodstock1234 suggested.
