    Taming the big green monster

I knew we would be away from the pool for at least 5 hours and unable to check it. I forgot to check pH beforehand so I won't be messing with it very much. The algae hotel is "sidelined" on a tarp during the winter and then during the opening slam. 🙂

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

Also consider putting the rock in the bottom of the skimmer basket and the hairnet over the top of the basket (that's what we do). The rock stays in the basket when pulling the hairnet off the top of the basket.

    Constant Dirt in Pool

It's TFP's pleasure to help out fellow pool owners. The reward is seeing "sparkly" pool pics :whoot::wave::kim::rockon::epds::party::thumleft::snorkle::swim::paddle::lovetfp:

Pressure gauge indicates zero during normal operation???

I'm dealing with possibly the same thing. could it be the diverter is stuck in "recirculate" and not going through the filter, thus not producing pressure?

    Constant Dirt in Pool

Does it "poof" when you try to vacuum it? If it does, it's algae. But I agree it looks like sand and debris. Also, I think algae would leave the bag greenish, not brown. Also as Mdragger88 wrote: it would be good for you to start your own new thread so it gets other's attention.

    Constant Dirt in Pool

When we used "sealed" bags of sand, they leaked, and algae invaded them. We now have sand in pvc pipe with glued end caps. They do the trick.

Much better. Keep up the SLAM. You will be amazed how "sparkly" the water will look when the algae is all gone. :lovetfp:

Great. Now make sure you have some P.O.P. on hand (Pool Owner Patience) and SLAM away. Also we love pictures.

    Constant Dirt in Pool

Okay, sorry. Not familiar with the 25ml sample. I always use the 10ml. Therefore, it took only 1 drop to clear the pink. Either way, basically no FC. Do you have a sand filter? Could there be channeling in the sand? Have you looked in the filter recently?

If you click on your name at the top of the page, a drop down menu will show several categories. Click on signature and it gives you a box to add all your pool information. Like what you see at the bottom of my posts. That makes it easier to know what you have.

    Constant Dirt in Pool

Thanks for the numbers. FC cannot be .2 and CC cannot be .4 Could they be FC 2.0 and CC 4.0? Starting the SLAM you need LOTS of liquid chlorine. You'll be getting your FC up to 12 and maintaining that for quite some time. Vacuum up the clumps; you can vacuum to waste if it works better. You'll...

Your CYA is probably high due to using the powdered shock too. When you get your test kit, post these numbers: FC CC CYA TA pH no need to test for calcium. Your vinyl pool does not need calcium. Do you have an above ground or in ground pool? Please add to your signature what equipment and type...

You're welcome. I just saw this "last season". Nothing from last season carries over to this season, except CYA and algae. ;)

    Constant Dirt in Pool

Was the chlorine liquid? The pool stores sell you pucks or powdered chlorine and algaecide with promises of your pool clearing up in a couple days. NOPE. Doesn't work. Algaecide does not kill algae. And with a one time addition of massive amounts of expensive powdered chlorine with the...

Welcome to the forum. Sad to say it but yes it is algae. (Why are you so sure it's not?) I see it all the time in my pool at start up. Please read the information on how to SLAM your pool. After you get this cleared up, you will be shocked and pleased to see how much clearer your pool water...

Please help…fine, gray substance impossible to clear

Once you get your test kit and test the water, you'll know exactly how much CYA you have and therefore how much chlorine to add to get the SLAM going and clear up the pool. Were you able to read up on how to SLAM=shock level and maintain? It's the "maintain" part that newbs have trouble with...

Please help…fine, gray substance impossible to clear

Yippy Skippy's got you covered. It is algae. No sock or robot will "catch" it. Only the filter. If you could manually vacuum the pool, it will pick up the algae and take it directly to the filter. Brush the walls and floor and it causes the algae to circulate, making it easier for the filter...

SaluSpa Inflatable hot tub at Costco

(It could be a Coleman or Bestway, not sure) https://www.costco.com/saluspa-laguna-airjet-inflatable-hot-tub.product.100754503.html We are considering it but after reading the thread of Intex inflatable hot tub problems, we're not so sure it's worth the work...

no winter cover in metro detroit?

Thanks, Newdude, for bringing it back to the common sense reminder. LOL I've always been worried about leaving it open. I guess squirrels or racoons can fall in, whether it's too deep water for them in the cover or in the main pool. Being in the city, it just looks strange for the 1st time ever...

no winter cover in metro detroit?

Do you cover your pool now? Do I remember correctly a discussion on the zoom "chat" discussing cover vs. no cover for AGP in northern states that get snow and ice?
