    Help with Pool Light Housing

Just some guesses ... Many potting compounds are poured hot in a molten state, as opposed to epoxy versions that set permanently when mixed. Just guessing your fixture got way hot - perhaps from being on while pool level was below fixture, or perhaps due to using a bulb of greater wattage than...

12v AC Colorlogic pool light drop-in replacement resolution

I think that's a great find @willerd - thanks very much for posting. If my area is any sign, there seems to be a vast number of ten-year-old to thirty-year-old 10" luminaires that have become so decrepit they are hardly worth trying to repair or salvage. From bulb sockets that deteriorate due...

10" Pool Light 6 inches from pool bottom

Searching (before posting) turns out to be very helpful, LOL. This is a great thread from 10 years ago about light locations. Where to put pool lights And Allen comments 5 years ago in other threads about light dispersal bieng better if the light is higher vs lower.

10" Pool Light 6 inches from pool bottom

Well, if you must know, he's a nice guy, a good man, and we both enjoy chatting about various home projects and helping each other and other neighbors, especially during storms, but really all the time. The perfect sort of neighbor you want, that I want, that he wants - we've discussed that too...

10" Pool Light 6 inches from pool bottom

Does anyone see a problem with having a pool light 6" from the bottom of the pool? I've been trying for months to convince my new neighbor not to shell out $40K to make his pool more shallow. Along with others, I failed to convince him of the risks. And it’s his pool, he wants more safety. He...

Recoat SWG salt cell to restore aged cell?

Thanks Gene - I actually have the hair snake hanging in the garage! Although I've poked with a sharpened wood dowel with little impact, I'll try the snake next time. Hoping also not to need it with lesser or no future calcium buildup :-)

    Inverter Technology Heat Pumps

Back in 2021 @Chuck_Davis asked for anyone with experience with inverter technology heat pumps (HERE) He got one reply, suggesting they are smoke and mirrors. Lately it seems many brands are flooding the market and making some interesting claims – of COP up to to 15, even 30, etc. Some argue...

Recoat SWG salt cell to restore aged cell?

I get it, thanks @Newdude for your thoughtful reply. That *If* statement is huge; even with my meager knowledge I have so much difficulty getting folks to stop and take time to think. Signs of the times I suppose, and I'm apparently no exception

    Inline Chlorinator

I'm with @sande005 on all comments. I've worked to repair at least 6 or 8 of them, one headache after another. In the end they are just worthless. Even when they work, the expensive trichlor tabs just run the CYA up with all the resultant well known troubles. And so much fun trying to shock...

Recoat SWG salt cell to restore aged cell?

Thanks @pjt for reinforcing the concept, and I totally agree and regarding CSI too. Along with Allen (@ajw22), you, @Bperry and others we went back and forth on this in December in posts 40++ in that thread I initially started about salt quality -- Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts...

Recoat SWG salt cell to restore aged cell?

Thanks Skippy! The thing is I've read that so many times, and tried it so many times - but when I get the buildup I simply have near-zero luck dislodging calcium from even the strongest stream of water from a dedicated hose nozzle. But it wouldn't be the first time I missed the point! So I'll...

Recoat SWG salt cell to restore aged cell?

My aftermarket 40,000 gallon ‘T-15 equivalent’ cell from Leslies finally fatigued its way to ineffective status after about 12,000 hours (3 years at 11hrs/day). I just replaced it with this other aftermarket see-thru version called Simple Cell from poolguysupply for $399 and it seems to be...

How to keep pool water full?

Not being fond of the auto-fillers, I wrote my version of poor man's remote pool fill here: Automatic Pool Fill Other clever TFP folks have built their own, like using a fluidmaster valve in the skimmer, which of course eliminates the unsightliness of the hose and filler. And of course there...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

I'm sure we appreciate your follow-up and I'm glad to hear the heater works. But I hope you are considering far more about electrical safety - ie to save a life - than the couple things you alluded to in the recent post. I would urge you to have an electrical inspection by someone qualified...

Intermatic T101P timer - possible 240 volts application?

While many electricians and others find it "irresponsible" to control a 220v device by switching only one leg, it's often done. I don't know if there is a code page that prohibits doing so, but I have seen MANY deployments, for example using the Intermatic RC2343PT pool/spa timer to switch only...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

You’re welcome @DigitalGuru – thanks for acknowledging the efforts. In my haste I did make this sloppy statement: “In my example the wattmeter would have reported 4000 total watts over 2 hours (yes, about 2000watts/hour or 4kwh in popular jargon)”. That didn’t look right even as I wrote it...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

I think, @JamesW that in our desire to give the OP some simple guidance we have made things rather confusing – especially across the last 15 posts or so 😊 We could take our disagreement offline – but I’ll try to sort it out here. First, I do fully agree with your skepticism about the COP rating...

Indeed, and it doesn't change the math to calculate COP based on that energy transfer. But still inexact of me to call it a watt of heat, I guess :)

Good info being advised here by all, and a very interesting heater - that Aquastrong 33K and its sister models, nice discovery! A few more things that occurred to me… Speaking of wind and ripples aggravating heat loss, it seems to me anything that agitates the water will also increase heat...

    Raypak heat pump

That's a great link, I think, provided by @JamesW - What Most Techs Get Wrong About Wire Sizing, explaining how and why the NEC/NFPA allows manufacturers to set the smaller #8 as acceptable in this case. Replacing bulb, question

Correct gasket part? Also ensure the gasket is oriented properly - many are stamped with "THIS SIDE TOWARD POOL". Also coat the gasket with non-petro based lube, like Jacks or MagicLube. Afterward monitor the enclosure for water intrusion.
