    Pump dead?

I just replaced the motor on my WhisperFlo pump with one of those just a few weeks ago. It was very easy except the two bottom bolts holding the motor to the seal plate were hard to get out.

    New Pool & clueless

Welcome. It shouldn't be too big a change if you get started off right. Buy a good test kit, read the pool school links provided above, start using PoolMath, listen to the advice of folks here at TFP.

Reverse Osmosis Treatment vs Drain & Fill

For the exchange drain how should you determine TDS?

    Fixing or replacing pool pump?

I just replaced the motor on my WhisperFlo pump and those two bolts were also stuck. I used Aerokroil and let them sit for a while. PB Blaster is also a good product (ongoing wars exists on which is better) and probably easier to get. The left bolt I had to eventually help with taps from a...

Pump broke - upgrade to variable speed? Which one/how?

If there is a neutral wire you can use one of the line wires and the neutral wire to power a single phase motor. You will need to know what the line-to-neutral voltage is before you buy the pump. You may be able to use two of the line wires to power a single phase motor - again you will need to...

Pump broke - upgrade to variable speed? Which one/how?

The pump broke or the motor? Search the web and maybe you can order that same pump online then you will know it fits.

    Solar cover issues

I leave my cover on 24/7 all year long - the sun does help with sanitation but I keep my FC up and don't have a problem. I only take it off or if the pool gets too warm to swim in the summer. I vote for cutting it in pieces - I have done this and it is much easier for one person to completely...

    Next Summer Upgrades!

We often set up a couple of folding tables; one to hold a portable gas grill and one for serving. Something more permanent would be nice. A permanent shade structure is also in the future, right now we get by with a couple of large umbrellas.

    Oops.......

I keep a solar cover on my pool all year - my wife won't get in if it is less than 90°.

I want to control multiple Hayward VSP with Arduino Board

@rstrouse suggested you explore byte index 4 to see if it matched any of the aux dip switch settings. Did you try that? I see Hayward Unique Address (HUA) mentioned regarding controlling multiple pumps. It sounds like they are discoverable. So far nothing showing how to discover them. From...

    Century (Regal) VGreen motor automation

Here are a couple of python functions to get the CRC16 value for a message. You can find them with a search but I'll post them for convenience.

    Century (Regal) VGreen motor automation

@MSchutzer , after switching the motor over to the Jandy protocol did it still need to get a query every sixty seconds? I was hoping I could just get status on demand while it was running a programmed scehdule - at least at first. Nice post, thnx. I'm going to use a wifi to rs485 adapter.

    Century (Regal) VGreen motor automation

The Century (Regal-Beloit) VGreen variable speed motors have an RS-485 interface and the communication protocol has been identified as this pdf attachment which was posted in other threads. @MSchutzer Identified it as being correct at least as far as being able to read status and write...

I want to control multiple Hayward VSP with Arduino Board

@MSchutzer , thnx for the response that is good to hear. I'm new here and read the forum rules after I posted - I may have inadvertently hijacked this thread which is about Hayward VSP specific rather than hacking automation in general. I'll create another topic ...

I want to control multiple Hayward VSP with Arduino Board

@zafarpatel7 In a previous post you thought had found the protocol for the Regal/Century V-Green motors. Did that turn out to be correct?

    Impeller size

Moved from here. Why a 1 hp impeller instead of a 1.5 hp impeller? I saw the Q&A on the INYO site regarding replacing a 3/4hp for a WhisperFlo but I was wondering if you had any insight?

    New user -intro

I've been hanging out here for a while thought I might as well register. I live in Atascadero, Ca. - same job, same house, same pool for 30+ years. Lots of ups and downs with maintenance till I found y'all, thnx. I've had cartridge, DE, and sand filters. Several different pumps - I maintain the...
