    Borates and TA

I am interested in the comments about the benefits of 50ppm of Borates however I have also read that using 20 Mule will increase both the pH and the TA. I can address the pH with Muriatic but lowering the TA seems to be a tedious acid/aeration process. My TA is currently sitting at 60ppm and I...

Sand Filter media - Is this normal?

Thanks. Maybe I am making too much of this but am doing a great deal of work this season to follow TFP protocol and don't want to leave any stone unturned

Sand Filter media - Is this normal?

Hey RH, great question!!! I recall being sold on Zeolite back in the day but thought I had replaced it....maybe not?

Sand Filter media - Is this normal?

I have myself wondering if it is Zeolite as I remember back in my early days using that as opposed to sand but thought that I had changed it back to sand (memory is a terrible thing to waste!!!)

Sand Filter media - Is this normal?

Thanks. I had watched the deep cleaning video and felt that the material in the video was considerably finer than what I am looking at IMO. I don't think what I am looking at is Sand simply based on its grain size and texture but was hoping for comments.

Sand Filter media - Is this normal?

I have attached 3 pictures of my Sand filter media. I have no basis for my assumption but this Sand does not look "normal" to me. One - it looks extremely coarse and 2 - it is not the color I was expecting. Hoping some of the Pro's on here can provide some feedback as I get set to start up my...

Are you saying that you repaired a leak in your Heat Exchanger? I would be interested in that thread

    Correct numbers for SWG pool

Well another Canadian winter is passed and getting ready to open our pool. I am fully on-board with the TFP process for 2024 and look forward to the results. I have read the "How to" on pool opening and appreciate that once the pool has been circulated for a few days and tests completed that I...

    Correct numbers for SWG pool

Hi Folks, Loving the site and hope to get many years of useful info from all of you. I have had issues in the past with my SWG pool and am told that my chemistry is off. I have read the "Water Balance for SWG's" article and it seems to be contradictory with regards to the "ideal numbers...

    Heat Exchanger Repair

    Heat Exchanger Repair

Probably reaching here but it appears that I have a leak between the Copper tube for the Heat exchanger and the stainless face (with location tube). The copper tube is likely brazed into location and it is this brazed that is leaking. I was thinking of JB Weld but was concerned over the...

Heater Bypass - stagnant water question

Also, I was under the belief that the purpose of the 3 way valve was to provide the ability to ensure that the heater could be valved out during periods where the chemistry may not be ideal (season start up etc) to help protect the HX. Am I misunderstanding the rationale?

Heater Bypass - stagnant water question

Interesting, honestly never thought of that. I will be installing a check valve after the heater and before the SWG (as per manufacturers manual and not because I think it is necessary) so are there any concerns over the operation of the CV?

    Heat Exchanger Cleaning - Internally

SWG is my system of choice and has been for 20 years. Only chlorine additions are at the start of the season to get the Cl in the right range while the pool heats up. Yes, Hayward has walked away from this but the HX has seen less than 2 years service. I have seen too many H250 HX issues to...

    Heat Exchanger Cleaning - Internally

I have removed my heat exchanger and am finding that while the tubes show considerable build up on the ID what concerns me more is the back side of the panel. There are considerable signs of water damage (rust) where there should be no water. I believe that that the panel either has a locating...

    Heat Exchanger Cleaning - Internally

Muriatic would really just attack the scaling and not the oxidation. No? I am thinking of a brush similar to one use for the ID of copper fittings prior to soldering but on the end of a long flexible handle

Heater Bypass - stagnant water question

The instead is to turn the heater off even though there is water flow (not really an instead) I believe that the purpose of a 3 way is to allow heater Bypass when pool conditions are not ideal (pre-season) or when you can't monitor regularly (away from home). Am I missing anything?

    Heat Exchanger Cleaning - Internally

"Acid" is kind of generic as there are many kinds. Any thoughts on what it might be. I was also wondering if a physical cleaning was possible?

Heater Bypass - stagnant water question

I am going to install a manual 3 way so are you suggesting that I not close it fully and permit a small amount of water to flow through the heater at all times but instead just turn the heater off. Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Heater Bypass - stagnant water question

I am redoing my plumbing and going to add a 3 way valve to bypass the heater and a check valve on the outlet of the heater. My question is if I was to bypass the heater for say 2 weeks while away what effect does the stagnant water in the heater have on the heat exchanger if the water is...
