    Fancy robots

No worries! The pool is a hopper shape, vinyl liner, 28x14. Robot seems to cope OK so far.

    Fancy robots

There are so many different names for the maytronics dolphins, it's really hard to know which are the same as what.... ! I think the PoolStyle Plus is the exact same thing as the SX20 (just a different colour); the PoolStyle 35 I *think* is the next model up, ie equivalent to SX30. The...

    Fancy robots

More knowledgeable people will be along shortly, but I just recently bought a Dolphin robot cleaner and it's excellent, I highly recommend. Even the "cheap" ones aren't exactly cheap here in the UK, and I've read about some folks only getting 3 years out of their robot, so I went with a pretty...

Pressure gauge not installed with TA60 filter

Yes, that's exactly the one. In the photo there it has the pressure gauge sticking out of the top of the dome, which is how I expected it to look. I ordered the filter, pump etc and this guy opened up the cartons and fitted everything. In hindsight I should have opened it up and checked the...

Pressure gauge not installed with TA60 filter

Sure, this is how he's installed it (the air has gone now). When I pressed him about the gauge, he handed me a small cardboard box with the actual gauge in it, but no sign of those other parts. He just insisted he never installs pressure gauges but he was a really odd character - we don't...

Pressure gauge not installed with TA60 filter

Thanks guys - that is kind of what I thought. Right now there's just a bleed valve (is that the same as pressure release?) at the top of the clear plastic dome that will unscrew a little to bleed air out - initially was a bit of air at the top of that clear dome, but without touching that bleed...

Pressure gauge not installed with TA60 filter

So we finally got the pool shed fixed up (was supposed to be part of last year's liner change and pool area refurb) and we had a guy - recommended by builder - come and install the new pump and filter. The filter is a 24" Pentair Triton TR60. The guy has installed it without a pressure gauge...

    Dolphin caddy question!

Other than that, the robot itself is fantastic. Maybe I fashion my own storage solution and stick the caddy on ebay!

    Dolphin caddy question!

I think you're probably correct! Yes, there's only one universal caddy - that clip on 'adapter' part is apparently required for S-line models, and there's two ways of assembling the caddy depending on the type of power supply your robot has, but yes it does seem that it's not a perfect fit for...

    Dolphin caddy question!

I think maybe the S200 is different - the SX20 is more like the more basic S100, in that it only has one roller (at the front) and underneath there are soft rubber "skirts" around the other three sides. It's these (the ends of them nearest the roller) that are getting squished flat. Maybe I just...

    Dolphin caddy question!

I've tried it every which way, I think! I think the robot is supposed to go with its roller facing the handle of the caddy, ie the robot is facing "backwards". But that part (called Caddy Adapter S-line on the caddy's assembly instructions) seems to squash the rubber "skirts" under the robot...

    Dolphin caddy question!

I went ahead and bought a Dolphin robot, SX20 (I think it's the same as the S100 or E20). This model only has one roller, at the front, and around the other three sides of its underside it has soft rubber "skirts" presumably to contain and direct the debris it's sucking up. I also got the...

Apologies! Another pool cleaner robot thread! (Cordless, or...)

Quick update! I've gone ahead and bought a Dolphin SX20 (I believe it's the same as E20/S100). It's a fairly basic corded model that doesn't have a swivel on the cable but even so it cost a lot of money here in the UK. So fingers crossed it works OK. I won't have a chance to test it right away...

Apologies! Another pool cleaner robot thread! (Cordless, or...)

Agreed. And as it turns out neither of the models I'm looking at has a swivel cable but sounds like the cable's getting tangled anyway! Currently trying to decide whether to pay a crazy premium (on top of a price that's already roughly 2x the US and Europe) to get the one with a nicer colour...

Apologies! Another pool cleaner robot thread! (Cordless, or...)

Ah, see now you've got me thinking about going cordless after all!!!

Apologies! Another pool cleaner robot thread! (Cordless, or...)

Haha! Thank you! Yep I think I would have jumped on the Liberty 200 if I could have foind anyone in the UK prepared to sell me one, but on reflection a corded model might suit me better (for now). So now it seems it's either a "PoolStyle Plus" or a "SX20" which seem to be identical except that...

Apologies! Another pool cleaner robot thread! (Cordless, or...)

Thanks Jim, that's a really useful perspective. Felt like the cordless ones were kind of the "hot new thing" and I'd been thinking that I waited this long, and now these new things are out, so I should take advantage of that and get the new thing! But in fact, I wonder if the cordless would be...

Apologies! Another pool cleaner robot thread! (Cordless, or...)

So per the title, apologies in advance for yet another pool cleaner robot thread - I know there's been a few lately! I've decided to get a pool cleaner robot. The old suction cleaner I had doesn't work any longer, and it had to be plugged into the only skimmer line we have, which was never...

Another one replacing (very) old pump and filter...

Now that's interesting, thank you! I must admit I'm kind of torn between replacing more or less like for like, on the basis that it's worked OK for years so far, and doing what pool guys have recommended in terms of what pump and filter *should* be used for this pool size! The 3/4hp pump is...

Another one replacing (very) old pump and filter...

Thanks for the link, appreciated - I get that the variable pumps are more efficient and save money in the long term; my concern is the upfront cost is a problem. I can't find the one you linked to available anywhere here in the UK, and the variable ones that are available are 2x or 3x the cost...

Another one replacing (very) old pump and filter...

Last year we finally got around to replacing the liner and pool surround of our pool (you can see it in the under construction forum). We had planned to update the pump and filter as part of that project, but ran out of time and money last year - so we're going to deal with it now. The pool is...

Pool 'suction side cleaner' getting physically stuck on main drain

Thanks folks. I guess it makes sense to go with a robot, though I'm aware there's been some issues raised on here about durability, and it's a lot of money... still, seems the least bad option for my situation. (I'm also looking to replace the pump and filter, and would love to install some...

Pool 'suction side cleaner' getting physically stuck on main drain

Yeah I think the Barracuda suction cleaner is just basically incompatible with the new anti-vortex main drain cover - the cleaner's rubber fingers will keep jamming themselves into the drain cover's raised slots and then it requires a bit of diving into the pool to free it, which a) gets old...

Pool 'suction side cleaner' getting physically stuck on main drain

Ah, but we're in the UK, so might be shipping issues - otherwise I would definitely go that route, seems like a great store with a massive range of options. It seems the Maytronics/Dolphin models (which seem highly regarded on TFP) are available from retailers here, but my goodness it's...
