    Pool Dust

I have read a lot of topics on the forum about pool dust and the consensus seems to be that the dust is actually algae. The problem in this pool seems to be exactly the same as the others have described, a brown thin silt evenly spread across the entire pool that dissapears when brushed. When...

New Member CYA 140 FC 15 Do I toss out the pucks right now?

Re: New Member CYA 140 FC 15 Do I toss out the pucks right n In my opinion you should definitely just deal with the high cya level you have right now, make sure you don't add anymore, and just wait for it to come down on its own via splash out and backwashing

Is ThePoolCleaner still the best suction side cleaner?

this might not work but you may want to call poolvernugen and see if you can participate in their try me program and get the vacuum significantly cheaper. The pool cleaner and the mx8 are the ONLY suction side vacuums that are worth buying in my opinion

Plumbing renovation, checking for leaks and need to backfill

Re: Plumbing renovation To me it looks like the positioning of the plumbing is going to make some of your plans hard if not impossible. I don't see how your going to isolate the spa vs all other suction with a 3 way. I would use a 3 way to divert one side to spa/skimmer and wall drain/broken...

    Pump not priming correctly...

Based on the pictures it seems pretty clear that you have a suction leak at the fitting going into the pump. It looks like somebody recognized that air was getting in and tried to put electrical tape over it to seal it off. You might want to take the tape off and get a good look at those...

LaMotte Colorimeter - TesTabs vs Liquid Drops

I just bought the colorq pro 11 last week and have been done around 150 test so far. I love it for fc, tc, ph, alk, and ch. The cya test is horrible, but that is because the water temps here are about 85 degrees, so ill be trying the cya out when cooler temps come. As far as accuracy goes...

    copper to combat cya

i can tell you that i maintain all of my pools keeping the cya at 100 and i increase the fc by about 12-14 ppm each week and i dont get algae or have complaints about itchy eyes etc. Periodically if there is lots of swimming or something and the fc when i show up is less than 4, i increase the...

    Pump/skimmer issues

that is the air relief valve in the picture. it sounds like a suction leak to me. if water is shooting out of the pump lid than that is the first place that i would check. When the system is under pressure the air that is getting in to the filter is compressed, when the system shuts off it...

    Backwash Valve Problems

okay. I don't know if it is just me, but i need to see pictures of your actual slide valve on the filter. I am not really understanding what is going on. Are you saying that the handle doesn't go all the way down? Are you seeing water come out the waste port when it is on filter mode?

D.E. coming up from drain overnight.

Also it could be that there is a leak somewhere in your system. When you turn your pump off you can probably hear water draining out of the filter, and it ends up falling through the plumbing back into the pool taking some d.e. with it. Finding whats causing the leak is sometimes obvious, but...

Fix Intermatic timer or must I replace it?

Turn the power off, take the mechanism out, there are two contacts on the back that should be touching when on and not touching when off. Play with the switch and see if you see anything weird. I wouldn't even mess with it though, i would just replace the mechanism. All it takes is a couple...

    pool not clearing up

if you just had the sand replaced then it is unlikely that the sand is the problem. This is kind of a shot in the dark but the way you describe all the sudden one day the pressure went up, makes me think you have a check valve on the pressure side that is stuck or broken. If you have a...

Is there a pump fitting adapter to stop this inlet leak?

you can cut at the 2 in coupler if you think it would be easier and then you can slide a 2 in fitting extender over the coupler and go from there. I think you should cut at the jandy valve and use a 2.5 in coupling though because it will give you a little more space. If you want to move the...

Is there a pump fitting adapter to stop this inlet leak?

sorry i skimmed through too quick and didn't see the other ideas. If you decide that you want to unscrew the pump from the adapter and re-tape the adapter, you should definitely remove the motor from the pump housing before you try to do that. However in my opinion it will be easier and you...

Is there a pump fitting adapter to stop this inlet leak?

A couple other things...unless i am missing something i don't see how you plan on moving the filter pump back, it looks like there is maybe an inch of space to do that, unless you want to move the filter back too. And is that a conditioner feeder that i see?

Is there a pump fitting adapter to stop this inlet leak?

My suggestion would be to cut off right at the inlet portion of the jandy valves. Then slide a 2.5 in coupler around the outside of the jandy valve, and reduce it back down to 2 in and into the pump. On the valve that has the elbows going into the pump, definitely move the pump back, your setup...
