New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

Just adding to this thread .... I also replaced a Dolphin with an Aqua Products - I bought the 604 which, I think, is the 614 but without the wifi connectivity. The app on the Dolphin was lame AF so I was expecting the same with the Aqua Products. I got the robot last August and used it for a...

Any reason to not use robot cleaner in cold water (52F)

That is kind of funny, but my pool is closed from about Oct 15 - May 1. So I have far less experience with very cold water and worry about freezing than someone from Texas that has their pool open year round. And I am a bit of an outlier as I have my pool open far longer than most folks around...

Any reason to not use robot cleaner in cold water (52F)

Thanks. It was warm here in Toronto today, in the low to mid 70s, so hopefully my water is up above 55.

Any reason to not use robot cleaner in cold water (52F)

Thanks. It seems to have trouble climbing the walls, I was wondering if that could be because the rubber brushes are a bit stiff due to the cold water and don't have as much friction to climb the walls. It could also be because the walls are dirty.

Any reason to not use robot cleaner in cold water (52F)

My pool was uncovered yesterday and there are a bunch of leaves in the bottom of my pool. Is there any issue with using my robot in water of this temperature and emptying the basket fairly frequently? I don't have the time to vacuum manually. I have an Aqua Products EVO 604 robot.

Suggestions for Aftermarket salt systems now that Controlomatic is gone

Good points. There is also the anti-salt people who say stuff like "salt is corrosive, it will damage your heater, pumps, etc". As if chlorine or bromine aren't also extremely corrosive.

Suggestions for Aftermarket salt systems now that Controlomatic is gone

Thanks for the info - that's very helpful. It is a shame that there aren't more solutions as, just like with pools, I think SWCGs are a way better solution that also reduces maintenance for the pool/spa owner.

Suggestions for Aftermarket salt systems now that Controlomatic is gone

Thanks, for those that have the Saltron mini, how has it worked for you? The seem to recommend using "Dead Sea Salts" - can you just use regular swimming pool salt?

Suggestions for Aftermarket salt systems now that Controlomatic is gone

I am on my second Controlomatic Smarter Spa. This is a drape over Saltwater Chlorine generator for spas. Hopefully this device will last several more years. But Controlomatic has now closed down. Anyone have recommendations on other aftermarket SWCG systems for spas? When you google this a...

    Raypak heater with Jandy iAqualink

I am pretty sure that this is correct, but it is SO lame that this is the case in 2024 when smart functionality is so inexpensive.

How often should you replace your spa filters?

Thanks - agreed about the end cap. It changes colour and starts to disintegrate a bit. In the past I did have a thread that broke off, but I was able to get it out ok.

How often should you replace your spa filters?

I read online that you should replace annually. I have been replacing mine about every 6-7 years. How often should they be replaced?

Idea - outdoor shower off the solar heater return?

If you have an outdoor sink then hook it up to that. That is why I got my water heater. I have a pool cabana with a fridge, microwave and a bbq nearby. When cleaning up you want warm/hot water. I have the water heater on a smart timer that by default is on from 10-10 only on weekends. I can...

    DIY Heater replacement?

I see people talk about plumbers to do gas line work. Do plumbers do gas work in some jurisdictions? Here in Ontario Canada I have always thought of gas fitter as being different from plumber.

Winter cover holder.Any alternatives to water bags?

Thanks - last year I undid one loop from the mesh cover and dropped in a sump pump for a few hours to bring it down a bit.

Winter cover holder.Any alternatives to water bags?

Do you really need to siphon the water out? I only learned about this last year and I have had a pool for > 15 years. A few times the water would have overflowed in the winter. I am not aware of any damage that was caused by overflowing, but maybe I got lucky.

When is it time to replace my liner?

Thanks everyone. Given the much more pronounced fading on the floor vs the walls it seems to me that direct UV exposure does the most fading as the chlorine exposure should be equal on the walls vs the floor. The areas in the corners that get the least sun are the least faded, which is evident...

Idea - outdoor shower off the solar heater return?

I have a small 120V electric water heater in my pool cabana to give a bit of hot water. Maybe something like that would be easier than this.

When is it time to replace my liner?

My pool was built about 16-17 years ago. I still have the original liner. The liner has a pattern and the pattern is about 95% faded on the bottom of the pool - especially areas not near the walls. On the sloped sides it is about 80% faded and on the walls below the waterline it is about 50%...

    Fall solar blanket use

I am in Toronto, so a bit cooler than Connecticut but I generally keep my cover on. I like to heat my pool to be about 84F for swimming and I tend to keep my cover on from Mon-Fri when the temperature goes down to the low-mid 70s at night. My pool will then stay above 80 and not need much gas...

Natural gas, or heatpump in metro Atlanta area?

If you use a cover then the time to heat isn't that big of a deal assuming that you are keeping the cover on. So you are generally only going to be needing to heat it up by a degree or two. Not sure how your electricity pricing works, but if you have differential pricing across time of day then...

    Liquid chlorine questions

13 years is pretty amazing. My pool is open for about 5 months per year and my Jandy Aquapure 1400 cells have typically died at about 5 years. I am now using a third party replacement that was much cheaper.
