National Fuel Gas Code Question - can a gas line be too close to the rear vent on a mastertemp heater?

I think that may technically just mean from the valve itself and not really mean orientation. I'm not sure if that means a straight line in/out from the heater.

National Fuel Gas Code Question - can a gas line be too close to the rear vent on a mastertemp heater?

Does ANSIZ223.1 dictate how close a gas line can be next to the vent on a pool heater? A customer just sent me this picture wondering if the gas line is too close to the vent. My tech is telling me since the vent mostly vents upward, the gas line is fine and that code just indicates they can't...

Connecting Hayward Heater to Pentair Panel Help

Hey, it worked! So yes, my tech had indicated he had tried both positions, but maybe something about the sequence, or selecting spa for the 2 wire remote and pool on the mode or vice versa... But I sent another guy out there and walked him through it and it worked. Thanks for making me that much...

Connecting Hayward Heater to Pentair Panel Help

So block A on the heater goes to the pentair board, correct? What remote connection is attaching to the side of the heater? Edit: I just called hayward tech support. They said the side connections in this use case are irrelevant. Their only other suggestion, based on what I could share, was to...

Connecting Hayward Heater to Pentair Panel Help

Yes, currently it's on spa, but our tech did try the pool connection as well. The heater would fire up when manually controlled, but in bypass mode, it wouldn't fire up.

Connecting Hayward Heater to Pentair Panel Help

Having trouble getting a Hayward Heater to connect to Pentair EasyTouch Panel for a client. See pics for how it is currently wired. As far as I can tell, it's a 24V connection on the heater board and 18V(?) on the pentair side, though it's connected to the heater port on the pentair panel. I...

    Hayward HDF400 VS H400FDN VS MASTERTEMP 400HD

Have a customer with an existing mastertemp 400HD and is interested in swapping out for the HDF400. It looks like the HDF400 includes some PVC pieces to allow it to drop into place for a mastertemp 400, which I would hope means it doesn't require any plumbing modifications, more or less. Any...

Two Intellicenter Questions - (1) WiFi connection and (2) “?” By heater

Was sent this by the customer, but still haven’t been up there

Two Intellicenter Questions - (1) WiFi connection and (2) “?” By heater

I’ll be heading over there at noon mountain time today. I’ve read through all the intellicenter installation/set up guides as well as the TFP guides last night and this morning. I’ll check that first thing and have the USB update ready.

    Oh, it’s a mastertemp 400 natural gas.

I’ll look when I am there tomorrow. Serious about a consultation fee while I’m there. :-)

Two Intellicenter Questions - (1) WiFi connection and (2) “?” By heater

I’ve posted some chemistry questions here but first intellicenter question. I’m a new owner of a pool and spa business and learning every day, but still a ton to learn. One of my techs installed an intellicenter upgrade to an easy touch panel, and at the same time, replaced a manifold on a...

Acid Wash vs Jack's Copper Stuff to remove copper stains in in-ground spa; can a damaged heater leak copper into the pool without a low pH?

Remind me how long the sulfamic acid needs to remain in circulation. Due to the cold temperatures, yes, we'd have to drain the equipment if it isn't circulating at all.

Acid Wash vs Jack's Copper Stuff to remove copper stains in in-ground spa; can a damaged heater leak copper into the pool without a low pH?

Following up on this post. I’m curious how big of a difference temperature makes in an acid wash. We replaced the heater for them and balanced the water. Something seems to have oxidized the copper staining after draining and filling. Customer is complaining the copper staining is turning...

Difficulty bringing pH down, and odd TA Results - blue to yellow but no chlorine

So here is what I think happened. Visit 1 - we refilled the in-ground spa. TA was very high, 180-200, and acid demand reagent was requiring 50+ drops to bring pH into range. I added a few pounds of pH minus but pH wasn't dropping much, but I instruct client on testing pH and adding acid and...

Difficulty bringing pH down, and odd TA Results - blue to yellow but no chlorine

We just drained and filled it for him. Previous maintenance group had let the water really go to pot. So yeah, it probably is, but reluctant to tell him we need to start over again... It's a larger spa, 1500 gallons or so. I don't mind investing the time into it. Builds the relationship, and...

Difficulty bringing pH down, and odd TA Results - blue to yellow but no chlorine

I think I’ve figured it out. He has a pool spa combo and whoever shut the pool down didn’t adjust the programming, so in pool mode it was still circulating the spa and running the swcg at 100%. So chlorine was through the roof. Yesterday there was still a low salt light on but maybe it was still...

Difficulty bringing pH down, and odd TA Results - blue to yellow but no chlorine

Good idea. As a follow up, I think he was mistakenly adding chlorine instead of acid, which is why the pH has remained unchanged and I was getting the blue TA result. I brought it back to the office and tested with fresh reagents and tested a 10 ml sample and just added 0871 til it went clear...

Difficulty bringing pH down, and odd TA Results - blue to yellow but no chlorine

I brought a sample home and tested ina clean jar here. Using the DPD method, I read 0 ppm chlorine (I get a pink color that disappears as soon as I invert). Using FAS-DPD, I get a pink color after adding 0870 but then no amount of 0871 can make it go clear. So maybe one of those two reagents are...

Difficulty bringing pH down, and odd TA Results - blue to yellow but no chlorine

This test kit mostly sits in the office, so I still doubt the reagents are bad. Yes, using 0870. No discoloring there. I've intermittently tested other water, and get the normal "green" TA color in other spots. But yeah, very weird I'm getting the blue TA color with no chlorine present. He has a...

Difficulty bringing pH down, and odd TA Results - blue to yellow but no chlorine

Just refilled an in-ground spa for a customer. Upon filling, the TA was very high. I tested 180 TA initially with a pH above 8 and requiring upwards of 50 drops of acid demand to bring it down. I left my test kit with the client who was regularly adding acid to bring it down (thought I don't...

Acid Wash vs Jack's Copper Stuff to remove copper stains in in-ground spa; can a damaged heater leak copper into the pool without a low pH?

That's a really good question re pH reading, LOL. Hadn't stopped to think of that... I'll have to follow up with the tech why they wrote that down. The things we don't always think off... We'll look at the filter cartridge next time we're up there.

Acid Wash vs Jack's Copper Stuff to remove copper stains in in-ground spa; can a damaged heater leak copper into the pool without a low pH?

We read 6.0 pH and TA of 40 on 11/4 and 6.4 pH and TA of 40 again on 11/18. I'm just guessing it's the Trichlor that is lowering it. But I spent time with them yesterday instructing them on using liquid chlorine moving forward, so hopefully we've permanently removed that variable from their...
