Much bigger pool this year - still ok to leave to freeze?

I reckon you can invite McDavid over and use it for a pick-up hockey game. 😀

Winter storage of heater & sand filter

Regarding the filter, just make sure the multivalve is stored inside. You don’t want that freezing. May as well do a deep clean on the filter then drain it. It’s been suggested to cover with a tarp or heavy plastic to keep precipitation out. I can’t speak to the heater.

    South Florida - Levels

Your pool will eventually find an equilibrium, and as long as you’re within the TFP recommended ranges you’ll be fine. There are ranges because each pool is different. You do want to stay on the higher side of FC range.

    South Florida - Levels

Ranges are ranges, but you shouldn’t trust anything coming from a pool store. First thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is your FC reading of 1.0. I see a SLAM in your future.

Walmart has cleared out all their pool chlorine for Christmas gear

Do what you can do. I have 3 gallons of Pools Esentials that are about 2 months old. I’m hoping they’ll take me to closing SLAM. My WM still has LC in the aisle.

Phosphates in town water supply insanely high

From what I gathered here is this. Keep your FC in line with CYA/FC guidelines and work on phosphates if you choose to. Shouldn’t be an philosophical disagreement.

    CH test not turning blue…..

CH test is a real chore without a speed stir. I don’t have a speed stir which is why I know it’s a chore. My least favorite test.

    Remove Phosphates...When?

Get the speed stir. I’ll be ordering mine for next season, next season. Most of the tests will certainly benefit.

    New saltwater pool start up

It’s my understanding that laundry bleach contains something that causes sudsing. I use Pool Essentials 10% liquid chlorine from Walmart.

    New saltwater pool start up

add CYA to your desired level. Going with a SWCG you want at least 60ppm added using the sock method. Add liquid chlorine to immediately raise your FC level to 4-9ppm but closer to 9. Now add the salt. You’ll use the SWCG to maintain your FC level.

experience with TFP advice and SW conversion

Salt will go down with excessive splash out and subsequent refills. Same with CYA although CYA does go down on its own given enough time.

    Rusting top railing connecting plates

First, I’m not a structural engineer. I haven’t brought down any of my houses, garages, or pools so I have that going for me. Clearly, that high of a water level will definitely apply pressure that may distort the shape, especially on the arcs. If the rest of the pool is in solid shape I would...

Official 2024 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Thanks. We find canning cathartic in a twisted sort of way. It just finishes the story we started in the spring. All we do is the water bath method. We don’t do veggies or meat. We do blanch veggies and freeze them when we grow them. I’ll post a pic of my first year asparagus plot shortly. It...
