Re: How to clean a cartridge filter

Can you post this pic again? For some reason, I can't see it.

Perfect! Thanks! That’s what I’ll do. I actually don’t brush the pool often, but we do vacuum frequently with a dolphin. I’ll get on a regular brushing schedule. Thanks!

I don’t. I’ll look into getting one, though. Thanks!

    Testing inconsistencies

Another quick question: the algae on the wall that I found that started all this felt slimy to the touch, and mustard algae is supposed to be gritty. But when I vacuumed, there was a lot of sand-colored grit in the filter bag. Is this mustard algae or just dirt?

    Testing inconsistencies

Water is crystal clear and has been the whole time. I passed the OCLT two nights ago and was just trying to keep it up to mustard shock, but it seemed to lose chlorine overnight last night. That’s why I’m concerned. I guess I’ll let it drift back to normal now and hope for the best? Just don’t...

    Testing inconsistencies

Water is crystal clear and has been the whole time! Should I declare this shock finished since I did pass the OCLT two nights ago? I just don’t want that mustard algae to start back up. The shocking process has taken so long and don’t want to have to restart it.

It has a Taylor label on it and doesn’t expire for 8 months. It’s just frustrating because now I’m not sure if I had overnight loss or not, and if I did, I’m back to shocking. I know it’s supposed to be safe to swim at shock level, but I have never felt comfortable doing that and am ready to use...

    Testing inconsistencies

Ya'll, I am about to cry. I had an algae flare-up, which I haven't had in over two years thanks to you guys. I think it's the dreaded mustard algae. I finally finished shocking (passed OCLT) and raised the FC to mustard algae shock level yesterday. We got 3.5 inches of rain yesterday. When I...

    Two questions

It’s a robot. We actually don’t have a manual. That is an area that gets some shade. We are also on the lake, and I’ve read that mustard algae often comes from lakes or rivers.

    Two questions

Treating the pool for possible mustard algae. I'm in the SLAM process now. My first question, I read different things about whether mustard algae is slimy. This was definitely slimy. Was planning to raise to mustard shock level for 24 hours, but maybe don't need to if it's not mustard algae...

    No fun for sure!

    Yellow stuff on sides

Haha! I will definitely switch back to bleach. I’m wondering about mustard algae, too. Have never dealt with that. I’ve heard it’s a pain. Should I raise it to the mustard algae slam level just in case?

    Yellow stuff on sides

So you’d say it’s definitely algae?

    Yellow stuff on sides

My pool has been doing great for a couple of years with no algae outbreaks thanks to you guys. However, today, when I was about to jump in, I noticed several yellowish brown patches. ( see pics). They are a little slimy and rub away with my finger Is there anything other than algae this could...

New skimmer tabs with no CYA!

Update on the blue sparkle skimmer Tabs: I tried them in my skimmer this week because we are going on vacation next week, but they were awful. Didn’t dissolve and just got mushy. Didn’t bring the FC up at all. Should have checked the Amazon reviews on them, because other people had that same...

New skimmer tabs with no CYA!

I was just at Wal Mart heaving six bottle of chlorine into my cart when I noticed these Blue Sparkle Skimmer Tabs. The package says “does not contain CYA. Does not contribute to the buildup of stabilizer that makes chlorine less effective.” Has anyone tried these? Can I use these instead of...

    Excessive chlorine use

I try to keep it at at least 3. Lately, it’s been down to two to four each evening. I add a bottle of 10%, and by the next evening, it’s down to 2-4 again, so it has eaten the whole bottle up. We have had kids swimming lately. They get out to use the bathroom, but you never know.

    Excessive chlorine use

Ok. Thanks. I actually did an OCLT recently to see if that was the problem and passed it, but I’ll do one again tonight.

    Excessive chlorine use

Hi, guys. My pool has been using so much chlorine lately. I am putting in a full bottle of 10% bleach every day, which is costing us $80 a month. It has been super hot ( upper 90’s) and we’ve had daily swimming in the pool, but still. My CYA is 50. Should I raise it? Would this help? My...

    Calcium levels

Hi! So we used to have a vinyl pool and we moved to a house with a plaster pool. I didn't ever worry about calcium levels on the other pool because of the vinyl, so I wasn't in the habit of testing those. The calcium in our new pool was super high when we first moved here. I haven't checked...

    iron in water

I treated the iron staining, and the pool looks beautiful! Who knew the liner was still so pretty under there? I'm assuming I need to continue with regular use of a sequestering agent. My question now is how often to apply this. Thanks!
