So I love my autocover but at times it sucks. When i closed it today one of the ropes broke. I think this is the 4th time in 5 years, at least the third. Everything I read seems to indicate that this is abnormal, the cover is a "coverpools". I called and complained but I doubt that will help...

My board gets constant use when we have people over, since paranoia took over years back boards disappeared from all (nearly) public pools, so everyone is glad to use one. The 30" raised bond beam is also good to jump from, but nothing is better than a good spring.

My cover is 5 years old now, prob spent about $150 per year in adjustments / fixing the ropes. The cover looks pretty good still but it will prob be replaced within 5 years, so my guess is it will prob be approx $400 / $500 per year when all is included. I do think they have improved some since...

I think the auto cover is the most important thing to keep the time you spend maintaining to a minimum. All the threads about pollen/oak things/debris/solar covers, wouldn't even exist if all pools had them. Thats the main reason I went rectangular for the pool, the free forms look really cool...

I think the recessed board looks good, get an 8' though, its all in the spring. I do know that after a lot of jumps my board will twist a little, so I need to recenter it and tighten the bolts again. With the recessed design the board could hit the pavers.

I have the same size pool with an auto-cover, if I was doing over I would have put a spa in a corner of the pool so the auto cover can close over it, and added 2 more steps in the deep end so you could stand either chest deep, waist deep or knee deep.

My cleaner has been in the pool for four years now and is still going strong, during that time it has been taken out only when we have alot of people over, prob a total of 20 days.

All the concrete that has been installed at my place has had 3/4 drain rock under it, since there are no fines in it it is 98% compacted when it is laid and doesn't need any more. Definitely with sand or road bed you need alot of compaction.
