    SWG/Pool Pump Sizing and Recommendations

Agreed. I switched from bleach/single speed to swg and vsp this year and its been super easy since then. Heres hoping it lasts a long time but so far the Hayward swg I ended up with has been well worth the astronomical amount I paid. I had a bad experience with a circupool unit (it got...

    Winterizing with SWG

High chlorine before closing won’t hurt but also is not foolproof. Best to wait until the water is under 60 degrees before closing. I never follow that advice as ive got too many leaves coming down in early October. I usually have some algae when I open up but a one-two day slam takes care...

    Acid pump recommendations?

Start with the gpd spec and translate that into how much time you need for the right volume. Mine is 10 gpd, so 53 oz per hour. I need maybe 20 oz a day undiluted MA so I started with a 1:1 diluted and pumped an hour a day. Then test a lot and see if it stays balanced. Don’t plan on hitting...

    Cheap pool heater

Well, 4 gpm makes it a 10 hour heat, not a couple days. I would do some real research on the safety of running it for 10 hours straight. I would guess thats well outside of the intended use.

    Cheap pool heater

So….garden hose from the water heater was snark but then I started to wonder if it would work. Your pool is only 10k gallons. Assume its 70 degrees and you want to get to 80. You’ll need 2500 gallons at 120 degrees to get the pool up 10 degrees. Thats 60 refills of a typical 40 gallon tank...

    VS Pump recommendations

Hayward and Jandy have to fit in the mix too. They don’t seem to get as much love on tfp but I would guess a lot of pool pros view them on par with pentair

    VS Pump recommendations

The general idea I think is that the larger vsp’s will move more water at lower rpms where they are super quiet. Larger ones also cost more. With your old pump being 1 hp, I would think you can also look at the superflo vst. Its the smallest and least expensive from Pentair but it might be...

    VS Pump recommendations

I don’t think I’ve seen that as a feature, but its easy enough to achieve. The priming speed is adjustable as well as the daily schedule so if you never want it above 3000 rpm or whatever, just program it that way. If you’re looking for some setting such that it will never allow you or anyone...

    VS Pump recommendations

I just put in the Whisperflo VST, replacing a Whisperflo single speed 1.65 thp. So far so good. Easy to program and super quiet. I also have 1.5” underground pipes and only a single 1.5” pipe returning to the pool. The whisperflo vst at full 3400 rpm is definitely more powerful than my old...

    IntelliPh vs Stenner

I ❤️ my stenner acid pump.
  16. T

    Acid pump recommendations?

I originally bought the Stenner as a LC feed when I had a single speed pump. I wanted the power to be on the same circuit as the pump downstream of the pump switch so take away the risk of the Stenner pumping away when the pump was off. i.e. if the pump isn’t on, the Stenner doesn’t have power...

    Acid pump recommendations?

I’ve got a Stenner classic with #1 tube (3 gpd) controlled by an Intermatic timer for MA injection which is diluted 50/50 with water. 75 minutes a day keeps it in balance. Ive also got a bypass with a windup timer for when it needs a little more than the regular timer is giving it. This is my...

    Concrete sealant on mastic problems….

Sealant is WR Meadows CS309. Solvent based. He talked to the guys at his shop and now says the sealant and mastic were chemically reacting with assistance from the high heat we’ve had. Hes scraping the sealant gum off with xylene and a wire brush and it seems to be working ok.

    Concrete sealant on mastic problems….

We had the stamped concrete pool deck resealed a couple months ago. Where the sealant went over the mastic of the pool expansion joint the sealant did not cure properly and left a tacky gummy mess. We finally got the decking guy back to take a look at it and he says he’s never seen this happen...

    Vsp in for the winter?

In researching vsp’s, I saw in the Hayward Tristar manual they recommend a full disconnect for winterizing and the pump to be brought inside. Does anybody actually do that? I’m planning on going with the Pentair Whisperflo VST because itll be drop-in to replace my Whisperflo single speed...

Hayward T-15 has been on for a day. It delivered EXACTLY the amount of chlorine the specs predicted overnight last night. Very happy after 24 hours. I don’t know what happened with my Circupool unit. I am just calling it a dud unit as I know others have had better luck. I do need to get a...

For those of us really into steam boilers….or as my case is, found one attached to my house and figured Id better learn something about it cause a lot of hvac guys don’t know them well. https://forum.heatinghelp.com/ It’s mostly pros on here but they’ll help out the lonely homeowner especially...

    Necessity of closing during winter?

Im also in SE PA. Ive seen one pool in the neighborhood that was designed to stay open year round but it was covered with a permanent tent enclosure and heated. Not an indoor pool but not exactly outdoor either. I would not risk it.

    VSP Selection

So....thinking more about VSP's, there's two things I am hoping to find out. 1) Can I clear clogs in the impeller easily? I get a lot of pine needles which constantly clog things up. I can put some hairnets on the skimmers if need be but it'll only do so much good. I've definitely read some...

After lugging 4 cases of LC into my basement yesterday, I am quickly reminded of why I tried the SWG in the first place. I am sure my second try at this will be a much better experience!! Can anyone confirm that the Hayward cell and all the Hayward design imitations out there use the exact...
