    Precipitated Calcium?

So, got the kit and chemicals today. Interesting! The pool store reading on TA was 59. My old, old, cheap WallyWorld kit that used to agree until recently reads it as 90 to100. It was lower before and I had no reason to believe it was rising, so the new kit was purchased to be the referee...

Best auto dispenser for chlorine for hot tub

I'd REALLY suggest you read the sticky pinned to the top of this forum. If you're handy with electrical or electronics, a Google search on parastaltic pumps might suggest a way to dose the tub (it's still better to open the cover so it can outgas). This said, hot tub maintenance is generally...

Disinfection By-Products using Chlorine or Bromine---The last part is most important.

I too only drink filtered water. Since you're both experts but new uninitiated folks do see this ... usually lead gets covered over with calcium in the water pipes. Sorry to hear about the copd, but if you have been smoking for two decades or longer don't quit - I have two friends that quit...

New hot tub, water is a translucent green

Probably best to give the sticky a read. It's "pinned" to the top of this forum. I don't know what sand points is, but green sounds like algae. How much trouble is it to dump it and start over? What are you using for a test kit?

Types of hot tubs: rec's for cheapest options?

So, just did the math on my hot tub, motor nameplate said 10A, so 3 HP, presume pump 2 similar, 4KW heater is about 17A, so 10 + 10 +17 = 37A (less ozone generator and lights). 50A breaker at 80% is 40A continuous load "tolerant". Looks like it would be fine to flip those dip switches if we wanted.

Types of hot tubs: rec's for cheapest options?

We weren't really discussing reconfiguration from a standpoint of having tried and failing, just how mine came configured from the factory. My tub came configured to turn off the heater with pump 1, the main, on high setting. I think most folks use a tub the way it came from the factory...

Caldera “fresh water salt system” effected by high phosphate levels

@MaureenD, If you are just looking for peace of mind about what is in your fill water, there are filters you can use inline with the fill hose. I don't know what they will or will not remove, but perhaps the manufacturer would elaborate. Here's one (link), no endorsement intended.

No 120V, just normal operation for this tub.

Types of hot tubs: rec's for cheapest options?

Drop wasn't too much, from 100 down to 99 in 15 minutes, but some will heat with the pumps running others may not. Last weekend my better half had 3 friends in with her and it was uncovered/running 45 minutes and only dropped 2 degrees.

Types of hot tubs: rec's for cheapest options?

I can't really tell from your responses just what your experiences are, so maybe this is irrelevant ... We knew we wanted to try the hot tub experience and when we decided to do a getaway weekend together with family, rented a secluded cabin and chose one with a hot tub. It's been a while but I...

Adjusting chemistry of new hot tub -- and question about stain line at water level line

I'll add to what @bradgray said --- we bought two packages of fuzz balls that float on the surface and (supposedly) collect oils and the like. When we clean the filter every week or two (sometimes longer) we throw them in the laundry with the whites and use the other set. I cannot recall if the...

    Precipitated Calcium?

Is there a recommend kit that includes TA and CH. I think I used the webpage calculator for acid, and now am starting to research CSI and noted acid demand can "bump" a ph reading to help allow checking a reading at 8 to make sure it's not higher? Is this an important test or is there another...

    Precipitated Calcium?

PH, aeration for 15 minutes had no effect this time, last fill with TA this high it definitely lowered PH. TA, the 15 minutes of mixing the MA while doing the aeration had no effect, presumption TA was stable and the MA thoroughly mixed when I did the second TA test as a confirmation of the...

    Gfci clicking, motor pulsing

Is it possible the added ground wire damaged the GFI cord? Perhaps if replacing the cord, leave off that ground wire. Was that wire there the first time you turned on the tub? Do you have an outlet tester or dmm you can use to verify the outlet is wired correctly? @JamesW is right, and pics...

    Precipitated Calcium?

So, last (my first initial) fill I ended up putting 5.5 oz MA in stages over several days. This 2nd fill I used that info to do it faster with bigger increments. It was comparable, I think 5 oz. We haven't used it much these 2 months and (to get to the point) PH wasn't checked much, but...

    Precipitated Calcium?

Now that's an answer, thank you! It's doable. BTW, it's not just one measurement, calibration is data point and scale (with both confirmed). And, yes, the pool store does get some of the results wrong - occasionally wrong enough to throw off my water chemistry if I accepted their results. I...

    Gfci clicking, motor pulsing

First and foremost when a 120v tub misbehaves, I see recommendations to verify the tub is the only load on the circuit, that it will support a 20 amp load, and that you do not use an extension cord. Beyond that, I'd think the first step would be to verify proper terminations of the cord inside...

Pool store results were accurate on CH, reread my reply to you in post #11... #3 COULD be on shakey ground, but unless you can offer me a ride two months back in time it's just something we are going to have to live with... Mineral pack is plugging the hole in the filter, it is supposed to...

    Precipitated Calcium?

Yeah, I too am not one to tempt fate ... I don't bump the pumps either. This is only my 2nd fill, most (j)unk was a onetime deal, i.e. concern for possible metals due to manufacturing process. Also, no purge initially. Just put 4 oz MPS, was seeing a little persistence with low levels of CC...

    Precipitated Calcium?

Fast forward, looks like I have an answer We have a new pool store reading: 1) CH of my water from the tap was 89 2) I'm going to assume it was a good number because, well, feel free to reread previous... 3) I'm going to assume my tap water has not changed (I'm scientifically mined, but you...

    Help with identifying heater assembly

I didn't see one either on the equipment panel side, but had called customer service for something else and asked. They said one was located on the adjacent side. Maybe it's worth asking the manufacturer? $200 must be shell with sensors. You can probably get the element for $20 - $30. I've...

    Help with identifying heater assembly

Mine had a model# on the control pack, and insde that I believe I recall seeing a part# on the heater. Calling the manufacturer might yield the same info? Edit; possibly less reliably, replacement lookup by make and model, resources like Amazon, SpaDepot.com, and similar that others may suggest.

    Help with identifying heater assembly

There are different quality/service life replacements and the element can be had separately if you are the DIY type. With a SWG and 5 year service on the original, it was likely titanium (best type)...
