    FC jump from adding acid?

Ah, good point. Do you know the magnitude? Is it 1:1? ie would 10ppm of CYA increase TA by 10ppm? Regarding the fill water I had mentioned that earlier in the thread. The pool is covered when not in use. I know from testing (turning off the autofill and carefully monitoring the water...

    FC jump from adding acid?

Update: Over the 4'th of July holiday weekend I decided to try an experiment at lowering TA. 8:30 AM July 3 I added 32 oz of 14% HCl and reduced the pH from 7.7 to 7.0, as checked a few minutes later allowing my swim current to mix the pool. There was no measurable change in TA. Poolmath...

    High Calcium question(s)

I have a 9-month old pool in the LA area, and it's CH has been climbing steadily as well, 625 at the last test. My pool is also covered for all but about 30-60 minutes per day as well and so the evaporative losses don't really explain the CH gain, and i suspect the new plaster. One thing to...

    Cleaning filter for first time

If your brand new PebbleTec is anything like mine you will probably find a fair amount of the pebbles in the filter pleats. I ended up spraying with a hose for quite a while to get them out, but I had to do it again I think I would use my shop vac (setup in wet mode) on them first before...

    Wiring Circupool RJ 60

Be sure to set the voltage on the SWG to match your pump (From the wiring i would assume 240V but if you have a meter and can check that would be best).

Which two green wires do I connect?

All of the green wires and the junction box need to be tied together electrically. Looks like the separate green from the central conduit was originally tied to the screw below? If so i would put that back. strip the end off the "pig tail" coming off the screw on the upper right and...

    How to reorder reagents???

I have had reasonable success buying refill reagents from Amazon, usually with at least a year's dating left. One complaint I have about the tftestkits reagents is that they are not dated, so while I'm sure they are reasonably fresh when purchased, there isn't any way to really verify that...

Pool Math App Malfunctioning-- displaying formulas and negative decimals

Just did a quick check and it appears that PoolMath does not do any range checking on that input field. It happily let me enter very large numbers. Perhaps some range checking (0-14) is in order?

Pool Cover for the CA Drought (ameba shaped pool)

Yep I agree a floating cover is probably your best option to meet the requirement. Some enterprising company should think about making the bubble-wrap covers in solid white instead of the usual clear plastic. That might help. I'm in Palos Verdes about a mile from the ocean and with my dark...

Ability to Export Pool Math data?

Reviving this old thread... I too wanted to export the chemical additions as a .csv and see that the feature still does not exist in poolmath. So I followed Matt's suggestion and wrote a filter for "jq" to extract it from the poolmath json backup. This might be of use to others here who have...

Use or Hold Liquid Chlorine left over from Opening?

I also keep a couple of bottles on hand. I have a small fountain in the yard that I use it in as well, so the stock does get turned over very slowly.

Replacing an Aqualink with an IntelliCenter

Yes that is correct. And on the Jandy system the Black (common) wire is positive relative to the Red LED wire when the LED is on. (If you are old enough to remember cars with "Positive Ground" this is similar).

Replacing an Aqualink with an IntelliCenter

The only thing that might be different (but probably isn't) is the polarity of the voltage to drive the LED. Turn the SPA on (which should light the LED) and then check the voltage between pins 1 & 2. On the Jandy controls the "common" black wire on pin2 is at ~+10.5V.

Pool Cover for the CA Drought (ameba shaped pool)

Auto covers can be installed on irregular shaped pools if there is enough level deck for a rectangle that will cover the pool. It's an less-than-ideal setup as the cover is dragging on the deck , and the tracks make two straight lines that break the other wise curved lines of the pool But is...

Adding simple local controls to Jandy Aqualink RS

I've been generally happy with my Jandy Aqualink RS automation and the IQ-30 controls. However there have been enough times that I've been at the pool and realize that I need to go back inside and get my phone just to turn on the SPA. That plus the fact that you have to have a functioning...

    FC jump from adding acid?

Well explains the instructions that the pool would need more of the stuff in 6 months. (Which I ignored) The picture is the jug it came in but I later learned that the contents were a premixed cocktail of which the Beautec stuff was just one ingredient. The pool builder also added a bottle...

    FC jump from adding acid?

Indeed that's what I thought. :) I have time this holiday weekend I was thinking I might try more aggressively lowering TA by adding HCl to lower pH to 7.2 then run the SPA in spillover mode (which will generate tons of aeration) until the pH comes back to 7.8 or so. I also still wonder if...

    FC jump from adding acid?

SWG is set to 18% and running 10 hrs/day. It took me a while to tune that in, but with that setting the FC level has been very stable between 4 and 6. Regarding the Acid, yes I realize that the 20 baume stuff is more cost effective, but that requires a trip to the pool store vs Lowes. That's...

    FC jump from adding acid?

I can post a picture, or link a short movie later today. The Riverflow run time is maybe 10 minutes per day and does very little aeration by itself, it's moving water not air. The slashing of swimming in it is probably comparable aeration to someone swimming in a normal lap pool. The SPA...

    FC jump from adding acid?

Coming back to this. For the past few weeks I have been adding acid in smaller doses when pH shows above 7.8 as you suggest, and the net result is I'm adding 16 oz of 14.5% HCl every other day vs adding 32 oz twice a week. So using slightly less acid, but at the cost of having to tend the...

    Complete Automation System Question

Ah, sorry, you are correct regarding #2. When I skimmed the same manual I didn't see the RS-485 instructions, but they are indeed there, so yes you probably want to get that connected up. I'm not a Jandy expert, but perhaps one of the Jandy experts here will chime in. I know that on my...

    Complete Automation System Question

You have 4 relays, but they aren't quite "do anything you want". Relay #1 is dedicated as power to the filter pump. If you have a SPA and want to utilize the "spillover" function relay #3 becomes dedicated to that function (even if there isn't a need for the relay). If you don't need for the...

    Waterline Tile measurment

Can you post some more pictures so we can better understand the various elevations? It looks like the top step of you climb out is above the water line, is it? If so how were you planning to finish that. The bottom edge of your tile should be at least 3" below the waterline (typically this...
