Rounding the Corner... Install Completed 7/27/13

Been running the hose since yesterday morning. It's got a ft to go so I'll be shutting it off soon so it doesn't spill over. I put the skimmer box n return in today all by myself. The return was easy but that wide mouth skimmer got cussed out! The pump n filter was installed too. I got in and dissolved 4lbs of stabilizer and, hubs n I had to add sand to the steps. That clouded the water. Oh well, I know how to fix it.

I'm going swimming on TUESDAY!!!

Not yet. I will today. I got the stabilizer in and all that. I just turned the hose back on. It should be full in a couple hours n then I'll add everything it needs when I fire the pump up.

This is where I'm going to nit pick this whole install!!! OMG The liner only matches up directly across from each other.

It's going to drive me nuts! It goes from one block tile to 3 block tile. I put a level on every top rail n the bubble stays within the middle some perfect, some to the left, some to the right of the line but all within the line of level. This has to be what he says is within an inch of the dig site n pavers being set. I think if I had more time, I could have done a better job. The pool isn't so far out that it would need taken down. It's just going to be a cosmetic flaw IMO.

I know I could have spent more time on the sand. I didn't because I was going between Jim and the pool all day Thursday and I had to work a 16 on Friday. The bottom of the pool isn't the best. Its really not up to my standards but I was running out of time. That may be the reason the liner isn't sitting right. I don't knowfor sure but I do know Iddon't like the base. I'm certainly not proud of it. Just with everything that's happened in the past month, it's really minute in comparison.

I'm going to keep an eye on it for the next year for any settling issues n I will address them thoroughly as they comeup if need be even if i need to drain next spring.

One thing I have learned....ahem....are learning after 62 years. Don't sweat the small stuff and don't beat yourself up over it!

It's just one of those things that will burn through your brain but no one else will even notice!! They will be having too much fun in your new pool! Just make it your sanctuary and go for it!

The most fun I will be having is making the faux rocks for around the pool....can't wait to get started on that...but first things first, we can hardly get into ours because I elected not to buy the ladder for both sides. I just bought the stay put ladder that attaches to the wood deck and as a result, it's quite an amusing production climbing a ladder on the outside and trying to position the "temporary" pool ladder so I can get into the water. Thank God we live in the woods! But it sure feels gooooooood getting into that cool 85' water when it's 100  outside!

Show us some fun turtle swimming pics now Casey! Remember...times awasting! THose cooler temps are right behind you there!!

We're already pretty cool here. It's been in the 50's at night with highs in the low 70's during the day.

I will be swimming on Tuesday though after we get back from the plastic surgeon. He has an appointment tomorrow.

I knew the skimmer was going to be a you know what! It's leaking! I can't go on because I have to go to work. I'm officially stalled! :grrrr:

I think I have the liner n butterfly gasket on wrong. I've given the order to drain below the return so I can fix it tomorrow. I have no time right now.

Big project alright. Excavate well past the line of the pool, and down no less than 6" below top of concrete of the garage wall.... the lower the better until retainage on the other side becomes the issue.
Please let me counsel against railroad ties, especially the used ones. They fail too soon, are not reliable even when delivered, and never look nice. The method of choice these days is the keystone stacking block, the biggest (most massive) you can wrestle with, and especially get the foundation course right. Proximity of that driveway adds migrating load, so build that wall high and tight to resist. Good luck. Starting right is vital in your case since everything you spend $$ on after that depends on it.
